Kay is pretty much a neutral move. For the $$$, Fedde has been more valuable down the stretch, filling a variety of roles. And Vargas/Mune/Kolson have all come crashing back down to earth, to the point where their current trade values are less to other organizations than a return to their July/early August values would be to the Sox. Then there's just the now obvious real flaw that looks increasingly apparent of building around a core of high K hitters that are prone to lengthy slumps. The choices the previous regime made were clearly flawed, especially the early extensions. But but but what have they actually built this time around that's inherently better...comparing this year's results to 2019? There's better depth with guys like Peters Meidroth Antonacci...for sure. But the pitching was never meant to sustain the stress of a pennant race THIS season.
