  1. One thing is certain...baseball individually has 15 of the 22 biggest contracts in all of professional sports right now. Nobody is doing all that poorly.
  2. Meanwhile, Padres replacing Pomeranz (injured last season, logical "buy low low low" candidate now after two years off)/T.Hill/Hader with two Asian closers in their pen now...one from Japan, one from Korea https://www.mlb.com/padres/news/woo-suk-go-padres-deal?partnerId=zh-20240104-1131449-MLB-1-A&qid=100000048&utm_id=zh-20240104-1131449-MLB-1-A&bt_ee=oko08dZHLIKAF7Uws6TvHQqpiZhcFpr5MOJBy4o48M%2FUoqpWxCqv8CYGtWj4eTAU&bt_ts=1704403663732
  3. He once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express...across from Kauffman Stadium and the Little K. Although closer to Arrowhead slightly. Does that count? Can we at least pick the right KC franchise to emulate?
  4. Which virtually all GMs will do when discussing their pitching trove of treasures...Getz will be talking about Kopech once again.
  5. Not to mention obligatory spring training injuries (no WBC to rely upon) and the very real risk of Cease himself getting hurt. After acquiring enough former Royals to populate Omaha and Memphis...Getz would 100% be off to laughing stock status if he somehow manages to screw up this one. And not even Poppysox will dare to extol his various virtues.
  6. No, Rick Hahn sabotaged Kenny Williams' "big board" on the way out in a fit of moderate obligatory rage and also only left behind contact information for Baltimore and those teams he was attempting to send TA7 to. So Chris Getz is flying totally blind despite being a fellow Wolverine...along with Scott Merkin.
  7. Well...at least this is stretching on and on so long that the Machado thread length will be threatened. And no matter what the level of ultimate disappointment...it won't rival the original Friends & Family that at least made some degree of sense. Royals Friends and Family is so much worse, simply because it means aspiring to 4th place, when those players were actually in their primes. Not even 2nd or 3rd. (And we already played the J.Dyson card, too.)
  8. Great for him to get out while he still can without being tainted forever.
  9. Gibson has worked? Flaherty? Better shoot higher than that.
  10. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/latest-mlb-rumors-hader-imanaga-021206809.html Cease interest heating up with Mariners entering spotlight, Jesus Luzardo another pitcher being shopped who could undermine Dylan’s market
  11. Samari Rolle combined with Bama? Rough week with the anti-Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Rose Bowl ending...
  12. Fox Sports will step in to save Michigan somehow...brokering a deal to get Harbaugh to the NFL simultaneously. Can't have the B10 brand tainted after a relatively long drought without a title.
  13. Unfortunately, we don't have these same players 4-5 years ago...when most of them were much more viable big leaguers.
  14. https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-power-rankings-inaugural-2024-edition?partnerId=zh-20240102-1128920-mlb-1-A&qid=1026&utm_id=zh-20240102-1128920-mlb-1-A&bt_ee=2SJ7jUpZIJwLg8LcrdN0SkzGY%2FKLjr4xR4m8Q%2BYWq6l%2B3jiH74ZURtKdE3sunUjv&bt_ts=1704202596249 Braves, Dodgers, Rangers, Orioles, Phillies #1-5 Twins, Tigers, Guardians, Royals, White Sox Orioles The general consensus was that the Orioles would be in on at least some of the top starting pitchers on the market this offseason, but then again, that was the general consensus at the Trade Deadline, too, and it didn’t turn out that way. Craig Kimbrel remains the only major addition for the Orioles, and while there’s still time left for the stove to remain hot, it certainly doesn’t feel like the Orioles are about to make a big move. That may be frustrating to Orioles fans, but this is where we remind you that this team won 101 games last year and is about to bring in Jackson Holliday, the consensus favorite for AL Rookie of the Year. The Orioles could still use some pitching, we think. But even if they don’t add any, they might be even better than they were in their breakthrough 2023 season.
  15. https://sports.yahoo.com/yoshinobu-yamamotos-opt-outs-from-dodgers-contract-reportedly-depend-on-the-health-of-his-elbow-002333569.html Dodgers basically will get an additional two contract years if he has to undergo TJ surgery...
  16. No idea...it seems it's more about being considered an outcast from MLB or pariah than anything. Loss of prestige...like Matt Lauer went through. And how to fill up his schedule for the remainder of his lifetime.
  17. Certainly a precarious situation in Venezuela if he was to try to earn a living there...would still be more of a crime target due to his fame.
  18. Twins and Guardians definitely waiting to see exactly what their financial situations are going to be with the RSN/Bally's fallout...whether the Guardians will ultimately end up dumping Bieber or not seems pretty key to the race, and a 100% comeback from McKenzie.
  19. Still has a pretty considerable pension/retirement plan from all his years accrued in MLB one would have to imagine. They haven't stripped that, although they could be garnishing it for the settlement...
  20. They're going to have real pushback from their fan base if they dump Castillo...and you're going to have a very upset young superstar CFer who will start questioning his future with the club.
  21. There wasn't much separation...the biggest difference being at the QB position for UGA this season. Texas rallied there in the 4th and almost ended up with the same amount of yards despite getting there a different way than Washington. Washington could never quite seem to be put teams away definitively...it will be interesting to see if the Husky OL can hold off the UM pass rush and how Penix handles improvising outside the pocket. Alabama was crushed in the first half, and that final run up the gut.
  22. Love that not even finishing seems to be an implied option for the White Sox...
  23. Ultimately, UGA was arguably one of the four best...but this outcome (Washington over Texas, then WASH/MICH) might be the best for college football (well, not the PAC-12 exactly), having two non-SEC teams.
  24. The only place to ding him is throwing on the run...and he's actually pretty elusive, but definitely won't run unless he has no other choice. Nix is getting picked right in front of him in mocks, but that will definitely change with a NC. Seahawks are probably going to move on from Smith.
  25. Where would Harbaugh go now...assuming the Bears are off the clock on coaching staff changes?
