SF just signed JungHo Lee to play CF, where his value is surely the highest. And they don't have a great farm to deal with, either. Seattle certainly has a need but putting Julio Rodriguez or Robert on a corner diminishes their value. I guess Julio with the stronger arm would move to RF and that would be slightly less wear and tear on his body, overall. And it's not like the White Sox are going to trade for Gilbert or Kirby...they're going to want near major league-ready guys. To make it work, though, Getz would have to take one of those pitchers back plus the AA/AAA prospects.

It was about Cease durability. A bit confusing to follow.

Like Teoscar lol?

Especially if that glove guy was more exposed as Yolmer Sanchez than a 3-4 fWAR borderline All Star level talent some seasons.
-
They seem to be willing to make Varsho a part-time/platoon player until he emerges from his offensive malaise.
-
He got married this offseason fwiw. How that impacts him is anyone's guess...as we have seen with Lucas Kopech and TA7. Burger wouldn't still be playing baseball without his wife's persistent support, for example.

They still need more offense in the OF...Kiermaier can't be the only add.

We hear this nearly every season in filling out the roster, well, “it’s only this much after all”…somehow it always adds up, yet the results get worse by the year. We don’t even have the catching depth to trust even ONE rookie to play half the time in a completely meaningless season in terms of competing. So we’re simply going to half-ass it yet again.
-
If Chris Getz is sort of trying to hit the ground running and yet is simultaneously humoring JR by completely wasting one season merely pretending to compete, this would be almost exactly the blueprint to infuriate nearly everyone with a rooting interest in the team… Why are we spending so much much to pay over the hill vets to lead when we supposedly cleaned out the clubhouse completely (well, all but Moncada/Jimenez) to gift Grifol a fresh start? Is Grifol really that incompetent? Why are they afraid to give Lee or Perez any playing time in a completely wasted year unless they’re planning on Maldonado or Stassi not making it past the end of May?
-
Why pursue a speed power defense based approach in a stadium that favors power hitting traditionally…? Dumping Burger…who they didn’t 100% believe in defensively. Moncada will be gone, likely replaced by Montgomery at third…who will require time to adjust to a new position. Vaughn will never be much more than average at best. SS/2B won’t hit enough to make defense worth it. AB looks to be at best average in LF. RF is non existent. Michael Taylor or Bader? Both seem out of the current budget. Catching would be pretty great if both those guys were 5-7 years younger. So our defense and pitching first is based 85% on strong or improved defense up the middle…but no plan how they will win with one of the very worst offenses in an offense-first stadium (monster Jimenez DH year?), and with nothing resembling a closer, either. Leasure ???

With $700 million contracts at stake and one of the poorest countries in the world (when combined with the other side of the island, Haiti)...it's almost impossible for me to believe we can say anything with 100% certainty just yet. -
Really wondering if RIck Hahn has any intention of working in baseball (at any level) again or is just going to go the way of Jeffrey Luhnow or the Braves' Coppolello? KW, even though their ages aren't THAT far off, would be more shocking, unless he found a job somewhere in the vicinity of Arizona. I'm going to put the shelf life of Chris Getz lasting as the GM as either 2026 or 2027. Josh Barfield will rise to be the obvious heir-apparent. Grifol will be lucky to make it through all of 2024...unless the mockery from all around baseball reaches TLR levels from two seasons ago.

The two who might actually be worse would be Hostetler, Haber and let's throw whatever the heck has happened in the Dominican for all those many many years since the Dave Wilder Debacle. And whoever decided we couldn't afford a single scout to consistently cover the Pacific Rim countries after Iguchi/Takatsu in the mid 2000's.
