  1. Man…it must be very puzzling to be a Mariners fans right now. And totally frustrating. "If you go back, and you look in a decade, those teams that win 54% of the time always wind up in the postseason and they more often than not wind up in a World Series, so there's your bigger picture process," Dipoto said. "Nobody wants to hear 'the goal this year is we're going win 54% of the time. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/mariners-president-jerry-dipoto-the-goal-is-to-win-54-of-the-time
  2. He’s also not understanding the bigger point…which is that there are at least another 5-6 teams like the Cubs and Giants and Blue Jays under tremendous pressure to make a splash between now and Opening Day, having accomplished little to nothing this offseason. The Yankees can’t be satisfied with Rodon and Cortes, for example.
  3. Yeah. Every fan who acts too cocky about their team gets a comeuppance. Eventually. But especially in the AL East. The Red Sox can’t even compete in that division any more…at least they’re not willing to do so at the spending levels required.
  4. Cease has basically been averaging 4 fWAR for the last THREE years. For every Moncada and Kopech originally projected to do that, you’ll typically have 5-6 failures even in the Top 25-30 (overall) MiLB players for each true or genuine hit. You’re not entitled to act like a Blue Jays fan just yet when you haven’t actually accomplished anything on a consistent basis…notice they have been stuck in the same exact position for three years now, with their biggest adds Kierkmaier and IKF, despite running a much bigger payroll. (See Tampa Bay for how to pull it off.)
  5. Imanaga is now apparently at the $95-110 million range…
  6. If he had a sub 3 ERA they would…how many teams have given Aroldis Chapman opportunities? Hasn’t stopped him from collecting titles. And what did KC get back for him last year? Let’s not forget the whole skull fracture thing was completely fabricated.

  8. Reminds me of Red Sox situation where they forced Bloom to dump Betts and then hung him on that cross later...no win situation there when everyone knew Boston wasn't going to sign him long term (which would have been far better than Bogaerts or Devers.)
  9. Not interested in acquiring...Mateo's strictly a utility player, a better version of Leury. Mullins has been all over the board, at times looking like an MVP caliber player and at others like he will never stay healthy enough or consistent enough to hold down a role. Basically the O's version of Jazz Chisholm. Of course, they only have control over him for arbitration years 2/3, which is precisely when the Rays would be parting ways (exception here might be Arozarena, who's too central to their team's identity.)
  10. Daniels is certainly in the top ten if not 3-4...but outcomes with Nix and Penix are all over the place, from 9 to 39. Then you have McCarthy as well floating in that same range.
  11. They seem committed to Murray for now. Almost no choice financially.
  12. Not if it means he loses a free and open line of direct communication with the Sox in exchange...their exclusive "go to" guy.
  13. 1980s/early 90s Heather Locklear would be far far better than any of these Orioles packages.
  14. They wouldn't have dumped Teoscar if that was going to be the plan...regurgitated again.
  15. One thing is certain...baseball individually has 15 of the 22 biggest contracts in all of professional sports right now. Nobody is doing all that poorly.
  16. Meanwhile, Padres replacing Pomeranz (injured last season, logical "buy low low low" candidate now after two years off)/T.Hill/Hader with two Asian closers in their pen now...one from Japan, one from Korea https://www.mlb.com/padres/news/woo-suk-go-padres-deal?partnerId=zh-20240104-1131449-MLB-1-A&qid=100000048&utm_id=zh-20240104-1131449-MLB-1-A&bt_ee=oko08dZHLIKAF7Uws6TvHQqpiZhcFpr5MOJBy4o48M%2FUoqpWxCqv8CYGtWj4eTAU&bt_ts=1704403663732
  17. He once stayed at a Holiday Inn Express...across from Kauffman Stadium and the Little K. Although closer to Arrowhead slightly. Does that count? Can we at least pick the right KC franchise to emulate?
  18. Which virtually all GMs will do when discussing their pitching trove of treasures...Getz will be talking about Kopech once again.
  19. Not to mention obligatory spring training injuries (no WBC to rely upon) and the very real risk of Cease himself getting hurt. After acquiring enough former Royals to populate Omaha and Memphis...Getz would 100% be off to laughing stock status if he somehow manages to screw up this one. And not even Poppysox will dare to extol his various virtues.
  20. No, Rick Hahn sabotaged Kenny Williams' "big board" on the way out in a fit of moderate obligatory rage and also only left behind contact information for Baltimore and those teams he was attempting to send TA7 to. So Chris Getz is flying totally blind despite being a fellow Wolverine...along with Scott Merkin.
  21. Well...at least this is stretching on and on so long that the Machado thread length will be threatened. And no matter what the level of ultimate disappointment...it won't rival the original Friends & Family that at least made some degree of sense. Royals Friends and Family is so much worse, simply because it means aspiring to 4th place, when those players were actually in their primes. Not even 2nd or 3rd. (And we already played the J.Dyson card, too.)
  22. Great for him to get out while he still can without being tainted forever.
  23. Gibson has worked? Flaherty? Better shoot higher than that.
  24. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/latest-mlb-rumors-hader-imanaga-021206809.html Cease interest heating up with Mariners entering spotlight, Jesus Luzardo another pitcher being shopped who could undermine Dylan’s market
