Considering the Brewers weren't confident enough to "invest" in him for just 1-2 years...4 years seems pretty preposterous. And the phobia teams like the White Sox already have with pitching injuries derailing contracts and/or costing more to insure, in general.

Wasn't Danks/McCarthy done near Christmas or New Year's? Was in the Czech Republic at the time... Snell is a tough one to call. SFG almost seems too obvious. There are a lot of contending teams who feel he would be the difference maker but would prefer only a three year Mac deal like JR for pitching....when it's going to take 4 years in reality, and maybe even 5.

That's exactly the year I was interviewing....fall of 1993 winter meetings. Remember being excited to meet Mike Veeck but he was quite irascible/grumpy. Portland and SLC were in transition periods at that time. Still think Nashville/Charlotte is one choice. Mexico City wouldn't be totally shocking....if you look at it from Manfred's international the sport perspective.

The point is that it's not like some death sentence. You can easily run smart organizations at $30 million or dumb ones at $180-190 million. The problem is most teams learn how to make adjustments over time.

This was back in the 90s. Still don't see SLC being a Top 2-3 choice with Denver in that region.
-
But two of those rosters are Cleveland and Baltimore...Tampa pretty recently as well.

Yuki Matsui (LHRP) close to signing with SD

At least they're trying to do SOMETHING... JR hasn't died that I have noticed...but the team is stuck semi-permanently in baseball purgatory. They at least acknowledge the existence of the Pacific Rim with a scouting presence as well...and are playing the Dodgers in Korea to open 2024. Looking at making HaSeong Kim one of their future centerpieces if they can pull it off financially...have invested a lot into Darvish as well, obviously. Had to replace Kerr/Pomeranz and continued to lower payroll while simultaneously dumping Carpenter. -

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/if-bears-trade-justin-fields-what-are-his-best-landing-spots-231437672.html Buccaneers are another team coming up…but Mayfield might have earned job with playoff appearance. -
How could also broadcasting talent like Benetti...looking at the complicated situation he was trying to negotiate with NCAAFB and NCAABB NOT think it would be a good idea to have legal representation, if for no other reason than to keep it from getting too personalized a situation, which is 100% exactly what transpired???

AAA as well....so I guess that leave mostly Mariners fans there, or Tacoma? The Everett Aqua Sox used to be popular. I remember there was a team in Bend, maybe it was Short Season?

But Eloy's lifetime averages as a DH are significantly the lowest compared to both corner outfield spots.

Javy Vasquez syndrome... -
Are you related to Jay Cuda? He's going to be very busy these next 2-3 years.

Salt Lake had a long AAA tradition...then changed to A ball.

Nobody has confirmed that Nick Hostetler is still with the organization or not...? https://www.linkedin.com/in/nick-hostetler-059175133 Still says Special Assistant to the General Manager....interestingly, Haber is listed BENEATH Josh Barfield, so I suppose some would see that as a form of demotion. Special Assistants to the Senior VP/GM Nick Hostetler, Marco Paddy, Bill Scherrer, Jim Thome Special Assistant to the Executive Vice President Todd Steverson

It might not affect the fans directly like it would advertisers and sponsors...but it certainly spills over to the broadcasting side like we're seeing with all the fallout over Benetti. I can see that Monaco must be getting cold feet because of the team being so terrible AND they must be making low-ball offers. Have known many broadcasters like my former college dorm-mate who lost his job with the Astros (Brett Dolan) because the teams were so bad it eventually led to wholesale changes in the organization...and the broadcasters associated with that poor product on the field are often the first to go. Bob Grim seemingly has/had a much better reputation than either Brooks or Gallas, fwiw...being in that kind of "in between" liaison role that needs to be a bit more independent.

1962 Mets I think (40-120-1)....or one of those Orioles/Tigers teams 5. Baltimore Orioles (2021) 52-110 2. Baltimore Orioles (2018) 47-115 3. Houston Astros (2013) 51-111 1. Detroit Tigers (2003) 43-119 9. Houston Astros (2012) 55-107 4. Arizona Diamondbacks (2004) 51-111 10. Houston Astros (2011) 56-106 6. Arizona Diamondbacks (2021) 52-110 7. Baltimore Orioles (2019) 54-108 8. Washington Nationals (2022) 55-107

Between the Orioles/Nationals to the north and then the huge swath of Braves' Nation in the Southeast...it just seems impossible that they would go with Nashville AND Charlotte unless they were losing one of the Florida teams.
-
PATHETIC...I guess if you offer to work for free or even pay them, like an internship, you've gotta shot at this gig.
-
The Cardinals were the other team that really fit perfectly with that Dodgers/Cardinals 50's and 60's style script jerseys across the front... Changing the hat logo and color scheme was one of the few things the Sox actually did better than almost anyone in the sport.

Except not as a pure DH...unfortunately.
