5/22 - 6:07pm - White Sox ( suck ) vs Toronto Maple Leafs
I think it has more to do with the profile of player that was drafted as opposed to the actual draft position. When I see them take low ceiling college players, yeah, not surprised they didn't work out. Now look at guys like Montgomery and Schultz who rapidly ascended the top 100 prospect lists. We take a Jacob Gonzalez, probably to try and once again fast track a draftee to an MLB sore spot (2B). I see people clamoring for Colt Emerson in a Robert trade to Seattle. They could have just drafted him instead of Gonzalez. I know this is hindsight, but if you aren't drafting high upside toolsy players, you're not going to get high upside toolsy players. Like an Andrew Vaughn/Nick Madrigal/Jacob Gonzalez will never turn into a 5 tool player. They may become decent to good MLB players, but they aren't going to just turn into some superstar.

By definition, yeah that’s not accurate but I’m pretty sure he meant he’s from the white Sox “family”

Under what scenario would you consider offering Crochet and/or Kopech extensions?
He probably is going to be good, but again, were talking about 11 starts here and have no idea how hes going to hold up under a starters workload. I would personally trade him either in the off-season or by next deadline. That's a tough decision when you're talking about a 25 year old SP that's performing but this roster is so devoid of talent its going to take several years to even get back to being a .500 club and by that time you are going to be losing him anyways. This is also under the assumption that the White Sox will not be able to meet/want to pay what it would cost to extend Crochet if he is indeed one of the better SP in baseball. I can't imagine he takes a sweetheart deal here, he already bet on himself with this SP move hes probably going to be looking to cash in on that success.

We don't even know if Crochet is a good SP yet. He has been excellent in May, but he also came out of 7 March/April starts with an ERA of 5.97. I think you at least need to ride out this year and see 1.) How he performs and 2.) Is he healthy? before you start kicking the tires on an extension.

I feel like it would be wildly irresponsible to give someone $55 million guaranteed after 11 starts. At least for this organization.

2024 MLB News not AL Central related
Almost 1 month later, Gallo remains at 0.2 WAR while Freeman is now at 1.4 ?

Does he even do that anymore?

Well 80% of this roster is garbage veterans who won't be here next year. Hopefully we at least get a second half filled with kids.

Absolutely, but seems to me the thought process is if were going to be bad might as well not pay two people to be bad.

Im alarmed at how off base your perception of this message board is.

We've needed a 2B and RF since 2020 and those positions still to this day have yet to be filled.

Which makes me think that maybe he has already been told hes the manager no matter what happens this year.

Its cool, we have a wave coming. Its how it works.

Next years team will 100% be more fun as we should start seeing some of the kids coming up. There is 0% chance the White Sox are over .500 in the 2026 season. You are talking about hitting on a prospect rate that is not realistic.

Great now Sheets gets a gift double so hes locked up 3rd in the order for the next month.

Worst start in franchise history, obvious season is over, why are they not at least TRYING something different? I feel like Benintendi has been lead off or 5th all year long. Its literally killing this team. Same with Vaughn. Just shuffle the lineup or try something different for fucks sake.

The only thing I can think of is they told him hes safe and they realize this year is a wash. Nothing else makes sense.

For as much as defense was touted by Getz, we continue to suck at it while sticking with the 1B in RF.

Let me clarify, the reason I think this is going to take 4-5 years is because there are no young building blocks on this team today outside of Robert and its debatable about Crochet, but lets just include him anyways. So we have a superstar CFer (When hes actually on the field) and a #2/3 starting pitcher. Every other position on this roster will need to be filled with either a FA or a prospect. We already know they are not going to be in the bidding for the impact free agents. And we already know that not all prospects work out. So you tell me, how long you think its going to take to fill out 24 roster spots with players that will have this team competing again? Keeping in mind that Robert is likely to be traded within the next year and Crochet, if ascending to a front of the rotation pitcher, will most likely meet the same fate.

Dude please stop. Korey Lee has 179 MLB at bats. Crochet has made 10 starts. Ramos has 32 MLB at bats. I am not dismissing the minor league system, but you can't go into an argument saying the rebuild won't take 5 years and your support to that is 9-10 prospects and a bunch of TBD's. If we learned anything from the rebuild we just did, these guys are not all going to work out. So I go back to the point I was making, this is going to take 4-5 years to rebuild. Minimum.

Yes, Benintendi being awful and being stuck on this team for the foreseeable future is a detriment and a cause for how this will take longer to fix. You said its not going to take 5 years and then listed 9 prospects and 4 TBD's. They will not all work out, and odds say very few of them will actually work out. The White Sox are going to be a bad team most likely through 2026 and even that might be generous.
