I find it hard to believe that Renteria will only go for $6.5M when Guzman and Vizquel have gotten ~$4M/yr. I could see Renteria getting $9M-$10M, not that he's worth anywhere close to that, IMO.

No question you would have American troops there as quickly as possible. Spain was different, it was a terrorist attack, not an invading force. We're already pursuing terrorist networks. As far as an actual military attack on Australia or the UK, we'd be there quicker than we got to Afghanistan.

Thanks for doing my research for me. Although I have to ask the question, the loopholes allow citizens to manipulate their incomes to find tax shelters. Those manipulations essentially create a lower income. In other words, Heinz-Kerry's tax return may have said something like $2.5M income, yet she was legally hiding another $2.5M. She may have paid 29% on the $2.5M reported, but when adjusted for her actual income, the level would drop well below the 29% she should be paying. I don't know this for sure, I'm not an accountant and don't work in the financial world, this is just my perception. As far as the savings breaks, most rich people's accountants already have their clients monies hidden in tax free accounts, I don't see how this will change things much. EDIT:: What's the difference between "gross income" and "ADJUSTED gross income"?

Really, it boils down to whether or not your highest bid beats the other guy's. A 5 second lead time through the auctionsniper leaves plenty of time for EBay to up the bid to the highest price available.

Let me answer your question. Theresa Heinz-Kerry made upwards of $5Million last year and paid in at an 11% tax rate. I'm firm middle class and paid over 20%. No need for reform, eh? No need to get rid of loopholes, eh? I couldn't disagree with you more. The FACT of the matter is that low-income Americans will have a lesser tax burden due to the fact that all these folks with the money to find the loopholes will now be held accountable for their full income. This will increase tax revenues and lessen the burden on those of us who can't afford to find those loopholes.

I have a clue. I was in the USAF and was deployed to both Saudi and Kuwait on separate deployments. While overseas, I worked with a good number of guys whose wives left them mid-deployment, cleaning out the bank account in the process. I met guardsmen who explained the financial binds they and their families were being put in due to their deployment. Having experienced these things first hand, in a military setting, and the mental anguish these folks went through, I can only hope that every officer that is tasked with deciding which soldiers' lives and lifestyles will be put in harm's way uses the same discretion and heartfelt concern as this officer did. I'd make the deal as long as AZ throws in a decent prospect. We lost last season without Maggs and without Hurt. But the problem wasn't the offense, it was the pitching. If you replace a rotation of Buehrle, Loaiza, Schoe, Garland, ? with Big Unit, Garcia, Buehrle, Contreras, ?...you're going to win a s***load of games...and the loss of Carlos Lee will not change that. All season we've discussed the need to move away from the power game, now the opportunity arises and everyone chickens out. There are cheap OFs out there that can provide a decent OBP who will instantly become more powerful by playing 81 games at the Cell. Replacing CLee could easily improve the OF defense/range as well. With the potential signing of Vizquel, our IF defense will be strong as well. When's the last time we had a defensively talented team? When's the last time we had a staff with three #1 pitchers? How many power hitters or offensive juggernauts do the Twins have? What about Oakland? We've tried the offensive approach to winning, and we've seen that, for whatever reason, it just doesn't work for the White Sox. I'm ready to see a new brand of ball and see the team shaped in the mold of their manager.
