Fansided 2017 Top 125 MLB Prospects
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to steveno89's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 01:24 PM) I can't think of any prospects that have ever been rushed and ruined. Is this guy going to say Beckham? LO freaking L if that's an example. I would say Courtney Hawkins, unless you mean rushed to the majors, in which case Beckham was not a failed prospect, but certainly fell short of expectations he set after his rookie year. -

Sox certainly hurt his prospect shine, but there is no reason to think they did any irrecoverable damage to him. He can bounce back if he was supposed to be good. -

Can't see myself ever getting any system Nintendo puts out there, but that open world Mario game looks dope.

Fansided 2017 Top 125 MLB Prospects

Last year I was clammoring for them to use him as a starter, or at least try to. But since then, it seemed that never became an option. Really hoping this report is true and they give him a shot to start. 7 of his last 8 appearances were 2 IP appearances. -
White Sox will keep trying Collins as a C
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 09:02 AM) Collins is not a guy who will bat .300 consistently, but he knows how to draw walks and his patience will allow him to post very good OBP #'s overall He also has above average power potential. If he can stick at catcher he could be really valuable Yeah, he could very well hit something like .260 with an OBP around .390 and 30 dingers. Moncada might be more of a .295 hitter with an OBP around .370 and 20 dingers. I guess it's kind of preference as to which of those statlines you'd prefer to have. -
Absolutely bring him back as a AAA player, or bench player for speed. Love me some Micah.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q

But seriously.....our AA and AAA staffs could be unreal with the likes of Giolito, Glasnow, Kopech, Keller, Lopez, Dunning, and Fulmer in them. Those are 7 good to great pitching prospects. Makes my pants tight just thinking about it. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 12:44 AM) If the Sox were able to get both Glasnow and Keller, they'd be so stacked with pitching that I'd hope they'd flip a couple to Colorado for Brendan Rodgers. I would hope they let them all attempt to pan out, since half of them won't, then trade one of the ones that works out for a good young hitter. -

Talking a little with that Pirates blog tweeter, I tweeted him a counter offer of.... Glasnow, Keller, Newman, Hayes, and Diaz and he replied that he would be ok with that deal. As Sox fans, I think that would be a killer deal for us that allows them to keep Meadows and Bell. -

QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jan 8, 2017 -> 09:21 PM) The Sox should NOT trade to Pitt for Glasnow and Newman as headliners. That feels very under value for Q I would take Glasnow, Keller, Newman, and Hayes. Although it would have been nice to get a stud OF in one of the Sale, Eaton, Q trades (Basabe is too raw right now). A package of Glasnow/Keller would be very similar to the Giolito/Lopez combo where one Glasnow has always been the blue chip slam dunk pitching prospect, but then 2016 sees another pitcher shoot up their list and some scouts now think is better than the longtime top prospect. Sickels on Keller: "3) Mitch Keller, RHP, Grade B+/A-: Age 20, second round pick in 2014 from high school in Iowa; 2.35 ERA with 138/19 K/BB in 130 innings between Low-A and High-A, 101 hits; ideal build at 6-3, 195; fastball up to 93-97 MPH, curveball has become a plus pitch, change-up solid-average, command and control of all pitches took a huge step forward; some sources now regard him as a better prospect than Glasnow due to better control and they might be right; has history of forearm problems so sturdiness remains unproven; number two starter upside. ETA 2019. " And I don't have a subscription to Baseball America to read the report, but they have Keller as the #2 PIT prospect behind Meadows, but ahead of Glasnow. Now when this guy says Glasnow and Newman as headliners, if he is essentially counting out Keller, then the package would have to be something like Glasnow, Newman, Hayes, Hearn, and Diaz. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) Cameron's comment about Q being the most expensive #4 starter in history. What is he smoking? Terribly off base with that comment. The person asking the question was posing a hypothetical that Quintana has regressed by the year 2020 (4 seasons from now, age 32) to become a #4 starter for the Sox, and asking Cameron if that wouldn't be worth having. And Cameron, using his hypothetical, is saying the opportunity cost lost by holding on to a depreciating asset for 4 years before ever getting value out if it is a waste, because of the talent you could have acquired and groomed in the meantime. Makes perfect sense and trust me, Cameron and Fangraphs are a big supporter of Quintana. -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 10:34 PM) The @insidebaseball6 twitter account has some interesting (albeit not groundbreaking) info on Astros and Yankees interest in Q. Full disclosure, no idea if there's merit to it. Also tweeted this out. No reason to think it has any validity. nside Baseball @InsideBaseball6 4h4 hours ago #Astros appear to be frontrunners to acquire #WhiteSox SP Jose Quintana. Prospects Kyle Tucker & Yulieski Gurriel could be part of the deal. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) Based on comments and tweets following, it looks like he has no idea. Sean Sears has no idea. He tweeted out a lot of Sale to Astros stuff a few months ago and has tweeted other wild rumors that he said were about to be completed that never happened. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) I think the argument around Tilson right now is that as the projected starting CF, he really isn't a low-key prospect. The fact that he said "on a rebuilding team", meant I thought he meant non-top prospects of ours (Tilson is not in anyone's top 10) that have a chance to contribute to the 2017 rebuilding team. Maybe he meant "minor leaguers" and shouldn't have said "on a rebuilding team". Who knows, it's not a big deal, but I am definitely excited to see what we have in Tilson. I like his profile, and a local kid.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) Fingers crossed that they play in the same game together! I want to see Giolito start a game that Gio Soto finishes that Geo Soto catches.
-
Soto has ranged anywhere from excellent pitch framer (when he was with the Cubs), to an average one, with an above average season as recently as 2015 with the White Sox. It seems to be a step in the right direction for handling young pitchers, which is really the only role our 2017 catcher needs to have.
