QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 11:47 PM) Colin Moran and AJ Reed were hall of famers in my OOTP save. Tapia was close to HOF worthy. Sold -

Was able to survive losing Gordon by my opponent having Forte and Rothlisberger. Still though, only got 11 pts from Elliot and Bailey combined. He got 15 from Beckham. So it will come down to MNF for me. I have Brady and Mitchell, he has Bennett. I'm chasing 11 points. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I think Hahn says no, TBH. At least right away. It's funny because the proposed package that Ro Da Don said Hahn wouldn't accept (Gio, Robles, Lopez), is actually a better package than the one that Hahn DID accept, and yet everyone still universally ripped the Nats for making that deal.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 12:48 AM) Robertson for Severino makes too much sense I do want Severino, but I want a 2-1 deal. Ask for Stevenson + Severino, settle for Severino + Soto. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 09:18 AM) I'm not a fan of this method of analysis. Prospect rankings are entirely subjective, so attaching a dollar amount to them is only amplifying the opinion of a very small group of people- sometimes just one person, depending on the rankings. I've never used it for evaluating a trade, I just used it because it was the topic at hand -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 02:31 AM) A "ton?" I bet the buy low on a bunch of guys. They don't spend a ton in 2018. If they spend a ton in 2018, then I hate both the Eaton and Sale moves. They know what they're doing, or at least I am assuming they do at this point. This thread is talking about the 2018 FA class, which means going in to the 2019 season, not the 2018 like you mentioned in the comment before this one.

Cooper dropping a duece for my opponent gave me a solid 15-point projected cushion. But I do have a lot of risky plays and toss ups this week, my first week of playoffs... Baldwin (7.9), Mitchell (7.4), Marshall (7.1), and Landry (7.0). For my 2 WR slots, I picked Baldwin and Mitchell. I also have a flex spot to consider. I either do Marshall or Landry from above, or I do Isiah Crowell (10.0). I have Crowell in there now, but he has been so, so bad over the past 4 weeks that he NEVER reaches his projection. Blaah. Then I have the decision of defense, either Jets (11.4) or Seahawks (10.0). Currently have Jets in there, but I feel Seahawks might be safer play. THEN I have a QB controversy as well....I have Brady (14.4), Newton (15.3) or Stafford (14.6). I currenly have Brady in there for the safe play, but Cam vs SD is enticing. Thank god I have a 15 point projected cushion because I could easily f*** this up by picking wrong. -
I do think the Sox will spend a ton of money in 2018 (hello new TV contract), but I bet it will be more on "2nd tier" guys like AJ Pollock, Charlie Blackmon, Garrett Richards, Patrick Corbin, one of two of those guys who are still really good players, but aren't going to be the superstars getting $200M+ deals. Or just simply offering extensions to our young core early like they did with Sale, Q, Eaton, Jones.

QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 11:18 PM) I really like Jake Burger, JJ Schwarz and Brendan McKay. I think it would be awesome to draft Jake Burger in '17 and Seth Beer in '18 the promos write themselves. I've read a lazy comp of burger to Bryant so we'll see. Anyone got a hot take on Beer? #CheerForBeer

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:17 AM) Hell yea, with a payroll of zilch. We are set up to dominate this division for a long time. Does anybody else feel like Minnesota completely whiffed on their rebuild? Their young guys are meh and they don't have pieces to really sell and replenish. Just have to draft their way back. We were in a much better position to rebuild because our major league team was stacked with good players with amazing contracts. Minnesota has to put all their rebuild efforts in their draft and trading Dozier NOW while his value is very high.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:16 AM) It also makes the Yankees need an arm like Q even more. He raises both of their needs for Q and can get them to bid. Yeah, true. I just didn't include them because rumors are they want to keep their huge swath of prospects, but who knows, they just signed Chapman, might as well go for it all now while his arm still works. And I LOVE the idea of them cutting Q lose, only to end up having to turn over someone like Gleyber Torres and others in a trade years later. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:03 AM) I think somehow in the end, Hahn gets Bregman if he deals with the Astros. Would likely be a Q+ deal for Bregman+, but Hahn just pulled off Moncada and Giolito. I don't think anyone expected the Red Sox to part with Moncada or the Nats to give up Giolito for Eaton. Hahn upped Quintana's trade value by sending him to the Red Sox, because it means other teams really have to step up to go after them. I tend to agree. Let's just assume Hahn was torn between the Red Sox package for Sale, or the Nationals. Maybe one consideration was that if the Astros consider themselves a playoff team, one team they might have to go through is Boston. By sending Sale to Boston, Hahn strengthened a potential Astros opponent. How can the Astros counter? By adding the next best available pitcher to negate some of the that added value. Who owns that pitcher? The same guy who provided Red Sox with the boost in the first place. It's like an arms dealer who is selling guns to both sides of a war. He's biting off both ends. -

QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) AJ Reed was the #11 prospect going into 2016 per BA. So that's a $62m value right there based on whatever this pittsburgh value thing is. So a Reed/Tucker/Martes package may be worth more than Quintana based on this silly analysis. Right, but he isn't now. Sickels had him ranked #31 in baseball after the minor league season ended. So now you are talking $38.2M. Using the package I keep harping on.... (And Sickles top 100 rankings) Martes - #19 - $39M Reed - #31 - $38.2M Tucker - #46 - $38.2M Stubbs - NA - Let's just call him $10M? That package right there gives the Sox $125M in surplus value. If Quintana offers $128M in surplus value....well, then I think that's a real fair trade. -
Check this s*** out... Of the Top 11 prospects in the system right now... only TWO of them were in this system prior to June. In SIX months, the Sox added 9 of their top 11 to this system. That's an unbelievably quick rebuild, and we still have 2 giant assets (Q, Jones) to trade yet. I honestly think we can acquire 4 or 5 MORE top 100 guys before the season starts. That could put us at 10-11 top 100 prospects. I'm not sure when the last time that was ever the case for any organization.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 12:58 AM) Keep in mind too that this rebuild is not going to take just one offseason. Can't fix this many mistakes in one year. But with Hahn truly in charge, gotta feel good about the next 2-3. I'm actually hoping we sign a couple FA to 1 or 2 year deals to flip for prospects in July. I feel like if we don't sign anyone, our payroll is going to be like $30M less than last year. Really wanted to see us grab Ramos for that reason. Maybe Boone Logan or Greg Holland can be those options for us, along with a veteran catcher or Pedro Alvarez. -
To those worried about the glutten of pitching prospects
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't forget though, these top 100 rankings still have to be updated. Heard on the radio today that Giolito and Moncada probably drop somewhere to top 15-20. Kopech and Lopez probably move up to that same area. So the Sox could end up being more like the Yankees current rankings where they have 4 players ranked between #15-#22. -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:44 PM) Have to be Top 5 already. 4 in the top 50 (including #1 overall) and two more top 100 plus another on the verge. How many teams can match that? Pirates have #8, #9, #20, #42, #72. Yankees have #15, #17, #18, #22, #51, #78 Yeah, Sox probably have a top 5 system by now, although it's very front loaded. Other teams may have more depth 1-15 than we do. But still, more trades to occur. By the time team rankings come out in like February, we could very well be top 3 or even #1. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

Honestly, I don't think GMs really give a damn what the media or fans say about who won the trade. They made the trade because they trust their own scouts and analytics and personnel. They should trust their guys more than they trust Twitter. -
Really enjoyed watching him play, and really loved his enthusiasm and interaction with the fans. He seemed like a really fun guy and I hope he kicks ass in DC.

Chapman back to Yankees

QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) If I am the Dodgers I am calling the White Sox up riight now. Jansen would cost 80/5 million dollars and a supplemental pick. Robertson- 25/2 million dollars. Probably 2 top prospects in a loaded system. The White Sox would probably do Lux and and Barnes. Gimmie Buehler and Lux. Or straight up for Calhoun. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:11 PM) They don't make it that far without him bottom line. Unless you think Pedro Strop was the answer it was a clinching move for them. Or they could have acquired someone else for a lot cheaper than Chapman. But oh well, it's not really a debate anyone can prove one way or another. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:51 PM) More like good deal for both teams since Cubs got a World Series ring out of it. They in spite of Chapman, methinks. Or at least, they paid for shutdown innings and they got blown saves and shakey successful ones. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:27 PM) I'd be surprised if Nate Jones has the value that we think he does. I think he's one of those guys that's way more valuable to us than other teams and will be our closer this year. Just read a piece Jeff Passan wrote on the rebuild and he thinks Jones has tremendous value and said he is signed to a "goofy-cheap contract", which averages about $3M a year for 5 years. Chapman just signed for $17M a year, larger than Jones' entire 5 year deal.
