  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) I'm surprised nobody on the board agrees with me that he's too wild. His style of pitching is way too funky. The way he separates his arm and holds the ball out is bizarre at best. Why can't Coop fix him? He has a fastball that moves. What does Coop need to fix? Dude had a 1.91 BB/9. That was the 20th best BB/9 out of 135 qualified relievers. Better BB/9 than any other Sox reliever, and better than top closers like Familia, Britton, Chapman, Colome, Cody Allen, Kimbrel, pretty much all of them except Jansen and Melancon. Nate Jones hasn't had a control problem since 2012.
  2. Robertson's value just continues to climb with every massive RP deal signed.
  3. Wow, so the Yankees loaned Chapman to the Cubs for a couple months for Gleyber Torres, Billy McKinney, Rashad Crawford, and Adam Warren, and then got him right back. Mastery by Cashman.
  4. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 22s22 seconds ago BREAKING: Chapman to #Yankees, five years, $86M.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) So Lopez and Giolito are already ready for the big leagues as well as Moncada. So are we contenders already? It's not a conventional rebuild if all 3 guys are in the majors next season. No one we acquired is likely to be on the Opening Day roster unless they have a lights out spring. The plan is for all 7 of them to be in the minors. Gio, Lopez, Moncada could all be called up by early summer.
  6. QUOTE (Nokona @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) I spy an Urlacher poster on the wall in his house. That's his host family's house. But he seems like a real smart kid. Loved his quote at the very end of the video too.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Perhaps, but we thought Moncada and Lopez were untouchable. Plus Rodgers is blocked for the time being. Rox infield is stacked. I don't recall anyone saying Lopez was untouchable.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:06 PM) Quintana deal starts with Rogers, then add in 2-3 more (Tapia, Hoffman/Pint/Freeland, McMahon/Dom Nunez?) Not familiar at all with their prospects. I would think Rodgers is an untouchable for the Rockies.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:45 PM) Reed/Martes/Tucker would do it for me personally. I love Reed & Tucker, but I know some here don't I've been reciting the same package, but with Stubbs included.
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) My first reaction was I didn't like it, mainly because of no position player coming back. But once I saw who the pitchers were...wow. That is a good trade. Once it said "Giolito +", I assumed those other 2 would be low level guys. Did NOT expect Lopez and their 2016 1st RD pick. Wow.
  11. Merkin also said Hahn was supposed to speak with media at 430, but they suddenly pushed that meeting back. Probs because he's working on a deal.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 03:33 PM) That doesn't get me that excited. I want Robles + Giolito/Lopez. Robles, Lopez, Stevenson, Severino seems like a fair deal for an all-star caliber RF cheaply under team control for 5 years.
  13. What about something like Abreu + Putnam for David Dahl swap with the Rockies? Gets them a natural 1B, allows Desmond to move to LF, and gets them the bullpen help they are seeking.
  14. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) BTW did anyone catch Keith Law's interview yesterday calling Moncada a "top 10 or 15 prospect", instead of top 5 or one of the best prospects. I see that he's either applying his White Sox curve to Moncada or he's heavily penalizing him for his 19 AB flunk in September. IIRC, Law was "down" on Moncada prior to the trade anyway. I think he had him ranked as the 3rd best Red Sox prospect after Benny and Devers.
  15. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) There's not a GM in baseball that would come close to considering Adam Eaton a "major award-caliber player." Based on his results of finishing with the 8th highest WAR in the AL, I'd say it's possible, but sure, I'll concede that top 5 is probably closer to being MVP-caliber. Was still the 3rd best OF in baseball last season.
  16. I think it's a pretty fair trade. Royals buy low on Soler, who was regarded very very highly a year ago. Cubs buy low on 1-year of Wade Davis coming off his 3rd year of decline.
  17. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) Adam Eaton has never been an All Star and never finished higher than 19 in MVP voting. Highly irrelevant when evaluating players. Derek Jeter won like 12 gold gloves, but that doesn't mean s***. 4-5 WAR players are all-star caliber. 6+ WAR is MVP-level. Those are benchmarks regardless of voting results.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) Big guy, lots of tools, raw power. 25 years old. Taylor must love Avi Garcia. f***, I JUST made that comparison, although only in way that they hit a baseball.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) No but you said defense wasn't one of the main factors for why Heyward got paid so much. You keep saying he was an established player, but his established offensive production up to that point wasn't enough to nearly justify the cost. So you're basically arguing the Cubs paid extra due to potential. Raw power doesn't mean anything if you can't hit the ball in the air consistently. Off the bat, Heyward and Avi are very similar offensive players. Both with good power, but mash the ball in to the ground instead.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) I honestly don't believe that to be true. You can't trade Turner if you're the Nats. You just cannot trade him. I mean, that's fine, but you can't expect to receive a top 10 P and a top 3 OF in 2016 without moving him. They would be acquiring 2 all-star caliber, major award-caliber players. Keep Turner, but no shot at those 2 paired together.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:41 PM) Given the contract, Eaton will almost undoubtedly be the better value. To be fair to Taylor's bad argument, the question wasn't who is more valuable in a trade, because that is WITHOUT A DOUBT Adam Eaton and that's not up for debate. The question was simply who is the better player, to which I think it's Eaton based on numbers, and he thinks it's Heyward based on his height.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) We now have multiple threads so I'll post this here, too. If I see one more post demanding Turner ++ for Quintana +. Washington is not going to trade Turner for guys their fans have never even heard of - there would be a mutiny. Trea Turner, in 73 games last year across 307 at bats, had a .937 OPS with 13 homers, 14 doubles, 8 triples, and 33 stolen bases. WHAT THE F*CK THEY ARE NOT GOING TO F*CKING TRADE THIS GUY. Their fans would riot. From what I've seen, the only people still demanding Turner is in the context of a Quintana + Eaton trade, in which case that's entirely valid for a pair of 4-5 WAR players.
