Legitimate chance of Sale trade to #Nationals per Rosenthal
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:30 AM) I think Turner, Giolito & Robles actually represents fair. Nats get a 10-15 win upgrade, Sox get some nice pieces. Sox still might end up losing that trade 5 years from now. Sale adds 10-15 wins to their team?? Uh...what? -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:29 AM) Of the three, the Nats pair have the most downside risk, given Robles' relative distance from The Show, and Giolito's injury history. We're talking about trading away Chris Sale, not some average Joe. Take the Shelby Miller return, and add more to that ti get to a starting point. Anything less is an insult. So because you prefer the OTHER pairing of top 2 prospects (which aren't even available to us), therefor Giolito and Robles are s***? I'm convinced you are going to hate to trade no matter what the outcome is, because you hate the Nats 2 best prospects. -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:16 AM) I do see that now. However, he still only put up a .741 OPS in his 3rd MiLB season, which does not scream "franchise altering" in the least. I still hate this as a suggested return for a Cy Young contender, particularly give his age and surplus value. Before you hurl yourself off the Dan-Ryan, just know only 2 other teams can provide a base package of TWO top 10 prospects in all of baseball. Nats - Giolito #3, Robles #10 Red Sox - Moncada #1, Benintendi #5 Pirates - Glasnow #8, Meadows #9 This isn't some s*** package, halfway through the rumored offering. -

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:13 AM) Ah I didn't notice the 40 at the top of the player page. That seems outdated, there's no way his stock dropped from 60 to 40 since April. It didn't those grades are 23 months old. -

For those suddenly freaking out over 2 year old scouting grades on Robles....here is a recent one from MLB Pipeline... "Scouting grades: Hit: 60 | Power: 45 | Run: 70 | Arm: 65 | Field: 60 | Overall: 60" They rank him the 10th best prospect in all of baseball. Giolito is 3rd best. -

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:00 AM) Fangraphs has his FV as all of 40, largely owing to his hit tool being judged as being below average. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...amp;position=OF In other words, his FV is roughly equivalent to Charlie Tilson. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-21-pros...cago-white-sox/ Those grades were given by Kylie McDaniel almost 2 years ago. No idea why Fangraphs still uses them if they don't get updated. EDIT: It even says right above the grades, "Reported January 2015" -
Sox/Rockies talking Abreu or Frazier
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Jose Abreu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 11:38 PM) Freelands lack of stikeouts concern me and limit him to a #4 at best starter in my opinion, more likely#5 or long relief Fangraphs lead prospect writer just wrote up the Rockie system. Small blurb about Freeland.... "Freeland’s command is his finest attribute, garnering some future plus-plus grades from scouts. It allows him to get the most out of what is a deep but relatively pedestrian repertoire. His fastball sits in the low 90s with average downhill plane. His upper-80s slider is short and cutterish, but Freeland locates it very well to his glove side both to left- and right-handed hitters and it projects as plus at maturity." Average stuff across the board is fine if you have plus-plus command. Scouts think he's a future #3 or #4 starter. Nothing wrong with that. -

Giolito and Robles is a really great start, but it's how the trade is rounded out that will really make my opinion of it. Trying not to get too high or too low on it because this is the meat and potatoes of the deal, there is still dessert to be decided upon. -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 10:47 PM) I'd be SHOCKED if something happens before Wednesday And THAT is why I took Wednesday off work. Was thinking talks would start Monday, heat up Tuesday, finalize on Wednesday. We shall see. -

Sox fans probably won't like this, but I would take a package of Kyle Freeland, Tom Murphy (who I've been putting in hypothetical trades for over a year now), and Ben Bowden (teammate of Fulmer). Or just Tapia and Freeland. -

I'm 7-6 on the year, and barely snuck in to playoffs. Had I swapped schedules with the guy with the #1 seed, I would be 12-1. I had the most Points Against, despite having the 2nd most Points For. A really good week is scoring 90+, scoring 100+ almost guarantees a victory. 5 of my 6 losses, I scored 97+, and a couple of them I scored 110+. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 08:08 PM) Just in time for the new season on new year's. Lucky you. I think the best part of British television, especially Sherlock, is that the episodes are long and they're done airing in a few weeks. Oh and make sure you watch the Christmas Special The Abominable Bride. Oh s***, I didn't even know a new one had come out. Need to watch that ASAP.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) Pretty surreal moment for the kid. Didn't get paid, but got signed pucks, hats and a jersey. I believe he will also be at the Hawks holiday party since the boys made him pony up $200. It was also his dad's birthday today. Very cool. Didn't get paid? That's kind of odd. I get the players union doesn't give a s*** about random emergency players, but thought he would receive a sweet 1-day salary of like $3K or whatever it would have been. -
Let me know if any of you see any good deals on PS4 Pro bundles. My parents PS3 died tonight (launch day one too!), and I think I am going to take advantage of this by using my new $250 Best Buy gift card to buy a PS4 Pro, and sell them my PS4.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) Decided to go with Brate because TB plays New Orleans TWICE during my playoffs. Obviously losing Gronk sucks big time. My hard decision this week is deciding to play Matthew Stafford (versus the Saints) or Tom Brady (versus the Rams). Stafford projected for 15.3, Brady for 15. Also, then Jarvis Landry or Boldin? or Malcolm Mitchell? I have Boldin in there currently. Ended up picking up Vernon Davis and will start him Sunday over Brate, now that Jordan Reed is out. -

I'm getting sick of the Cubs being the apparent model for everyone else and benchmark of how teams are constructed.

Avi Garcia tendered a $3 million contract
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 12:57 AM) If I'm not mistaken, they can release him before Spring Training ends (or something) and only end up paying him a fraction of the deal. I think. Yes, the "Dayan Viciedo" manuever. Tendered a contract for $4.4M, released in February and the Sox only had to pay him $733K (about 16%). So assuming the percentage owed would be the same if the Sox released Avi in early February like Viciedo was, the Sox would only owe Avi $480K. So they essentially need to find a trade to bring back a prospect that they would value at $500K to come out ahead of the opportunity cost. -
I've figured it out. 3-way trade, Rick Hahn's favorite. Sox, Nats, Pirates. Nationals get - OF Andrew McCutchen, RP Nate Jones (trade away Giolito, Robles, Lopez) Pirates get - SP Chris Sale, SP Reynaldo Lopez (trade away McCutchen, Glasnow, Newman, Kramer, Hearn) Sox get - SP Lucas Giolito, OF Victor Robles, SP Tyler Glasnow, SS Kevin Newman, 3B/2B Kevin Kramer, SP Taylor Hearn (trade away Sale, Jones) Nats get their CF, and a great reliever (bullpen was garbage) Pirates get their ace, and another great pitching prospect to replace Glasnow Sox get the #3 and #4 prospects in baseball in Giolito and Glasnow, plus a stud OF (#29), Pirates 2015 1st RD pick SS, and a future 2B who has a very advanced offensive approach out of college, and a lefty pitcher who touches 100 in lower levels with a plus slider. So with this trade, the Sox get the top 2 pitching prospects in baseball, another top 30 guy, a 1st RD pick SS who hit .288 in AA with more BB than K, a 2B with a plus hit and walk tool, and a flamethrowing lefty who could fast track to the bigs as a reliever if they don't decide to let him develop a third pitch. Deal?

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 09:57 PM) And a franchise QB and the rookie of the year that's maybe the best RB in the league. They are stacked. And all this while their 2nd RD pick, Jaylon Smith, has been hurt the entire time. Hoping to get that dude back next season, but the 2016 draft for the Cowboys could be a franchise changing draft.
