Avi Garcia tendered a $3 million contract

$3M doesn't hurt, but having to watch him play certainly does. Was REALLY looking forward to a clean break and seeing guys like Tilson/Engel/May get a shot. -

Braves among teams showing interest in chris sale
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) I merely said fans will show up again when they're legit again - compared to 2016 when they were absolute dogs***. I didn't say "the Braves have some of the best attendance, making them one of the biggest fanbases". I just stated they have one of the bigger fanbases after the obvious clubs. Having a large fanbase has nothing to do with attendance when the product is subpar, or if your stadium is in the middle of nowhere, like their new stadium will be. Obviously metropolitan areas will draw better. That doesn't mean they don't have the fanbase. http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2014/0...ball_teams.html Peep the map. They own the entire Southeast, like I said. Wow, if that map included Canada, the White Sox would have the smallest geographical fanbase of any team. Toronto is the only team I don't see represented, but they obviously a big pull in Canada. EDIT: Actually, it looks like Oakland doesn't have a single shaded area. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:18 PM) Rumor is Turner to SS and Espinosa DFA QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) Yeah what the poster above said, they would non-tender Espinosa and his projected $5.3 million and move Turner to short and use the money somewhere else. Wow, that is some surprising news. Espinosa is probably a 2 WAR player, easily worth the $5.3M he would be owed. I mean, that's about the same as Lawrie, and Lawrie is a worse player, who is hurt more often, and plays a BAD 2B, versus a great SS. That's pretty stunning that they don't feel they could tender him and then trade him for a decent piece back.
-
The Nationals acquiring Cutch puts their OF situation as....Werth, Cutch, Turner, Harper, Revere. And with a full infield, that really doesn't leave Trea Turner with a chance to move back to SS either, as Espinosa is actually a very good defensive SS with HR pop. I wonder if that makes Turner expendable in a Sale trade. Assuming they trade Robles and Fedde for Cutch, maybe a Sale trade would be Turner, Lopez, Stevenson, and Severino, allowing them to keep Giolito as a compromise for giving up Turner. In Turner, we are talking a guy that is even more valuable than Bregman. Turner put up a 3.3 WAR in only 73 games! That's a pace for 7 WAR. Hell, the package I suggested may actually be 1 player too many. I think the Nats getting Cutch and Houston getting EE could work out BEAUTIFULLY for us in our ability to strip both clubs of their best young prospect.

QUOTE (TRU @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Pitta, Brate, and McDonald are all better options than Cook Decided to go with Brate because TB plays New Orleans TWICE during my playoffs. Obviously losing Gronk sucks big time. My hard decision this week is deciding to play Matthew Stafford (versus the Saints) or Tom Brady (versus the Rams). Stafford projected for 15.3, Brady for 15. Also, then Jarvis Landry or Boldin? or Malcolm Mitchell? I have Boldin in there currently. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 02:43 AM) That and we lose leverage when negotiating with a team like the Dodgers who wouldn't collect first round pick either. Oh, you mean in trades of Frazier for this offseason, yeah. Too bad they didn't make a clause where that would only affect players with 2 or more remaining years left, so it wouldn't affect trade dealings of this current offseason. -

Jeff Passan reported the AP says the MLB All-Star Game will no longer decide WS home field advantage. I'm not a fan of this move. MLB All-Star game is the highest rated of all the all-star games, and players try the hardest. All the other sports all-star games are a joke and no one watches. -
Spring Training will be big for him, but I think he's at worst, better than Shuck.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 02:08 AM) Well we just lost some leverage in a potential Frazier trade. Amazing how we continue to get f***ed by this market size stuff. It probably means when Frazier signs elsewhere for $50M+, because he will. Instead of receiving a comp pick after the 1st RD, it may be a comp pick after the 2nd RD, or whatever they deem the "market size" penalty to be. Which means keeping Frazier and collecting the QO probably doesn't do much for us, as a pick in the early 30s is far more exciting than a pick in the late 60s. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) That's the problem with the Rangers' deal. They don't want to give up Odor because they need him for 2017, and Profar has fewer years of control as well. Then you run into the fact that they can't easily afford to part with Mazara, either. Too many pieces off the major league team, and not enough enticing minor league prospects at the lower levels. Trading for Gallo is the equivalent of the LaPorta/Sabathia deal way back in the day. They not only need hitting, but players who can hit and field their position at an above average level simultaneously. Reason why I still think the Dodgers and Astros line up the best, Red Sox and Yankees would work too. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 12:10 AM) You shouldn't even roster Jared Cook. He's had one good game all year. Not many options for backup TE, other than Pitta, Brate, McDonald, or Gresham. -

I wonder if this $50M thing will become a negotiating tactic. Like teams who are trying to sign a player away from a rival may offer something like 4 yrs/$49.8M to beat someone else's offer of 5 yrs/$57M in order to not give their rival a 1st RD pick compensation. Shorter, higher AV deals might be more in vogue to get around that. Although that would probably be rare and very specific instances to matter. -

QUOTE (Carpe Diem @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 07:03 AM) Nah I spoke with him a few days ago and was told "99% chance the show will start December 4th and unless the Rangers pony up Odor its still between Astros and Dodgers" I'm confused why Odor would be a lynchpin with the Rangers. The dude hit 33 HR last year in his 3rd season, and was STILL worth only 2 WAR due to his horrible defense and inability to not swing at 4 pitches outside the zone. He will only be 23, so he's quite young obviously, but still only has 4 years of control left versus all the other big chips from other teams who have 6 years left. Not saying you're right, just am not comfortable with him being the "compromise" from the Rangers. -

Would it be better to roster Adrian Peterson (I just won the claim on him), or add Alfred Morris as a handcuff to Ezekiel Elliot? I know on Matthew Berry's fantasy show they have been saying you need to handcuff Elliot with Morris, but I'm not experienced enough with fantasy to understand why, other than the *potential* for injury I guess? In which case, wouldn't that have been the idea all season? Or is it because all the byes are done, your bench should be differently? Anyway, they even explicitly said in the video that handcuffing Elliot with Morris is a better idea than rostering Peterson, but I just see that as trading a potential weapon for safety net. Of course, I could just drop Crowell who has been god awful recently, or drop Jared Cook in hopes that Gronk will play Sunday. -

Saw Dave Cameron wrote an article about the Mets should try to move Michael Conforto now (they have a huge glut of OFs). What about something like OF Michael Conforto + SS Gavin Cecchini for Nate Jones? Conforto was the #80 ranked prospect before his 1st major league season. He has now played a full season worth of games in the majors, and despite a low average (.238), he has a fine walk rate of 10%, and an average K% of 23%, to go along with 21 HR, above average defense, 109 wRC+ and a 3.4 WAR. Gavin Cecchini is a SS likely to end up at 2B, and I would guess would come in around the top 50 in prospect lists. Was ranked #87 last year before hitting .325 in 117 AAA games this season, walking 10% of the time and only striking out a fantastic 11%. He also hits 8 HR, should play above average defense at 2B and has a strong arm. Conforto will turn 24 before the year starts, Cecchini turns 23 in a month. Both are obviously major league ready, and both former 1st RD picks (10th and 12th respectively). -
This reminds me of the Rich Hill signing last offseason. Really hard to gauge his actual skill and value.

White Sox Not Willing to Trade with Cubs
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with the idea of not trading superstars across town (but I limit that to superstars, I would happily offer them Robertson/Jones/prospects), but you can't let anyone outside of your org know that. You can't TELL the Cubs you aren't going to deal with them, because it could and obviously did get out, which hurts their leverage. But internally deciding not to make blockbuster deals with the Cubs makes perfectly good sense.
