Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
I get it if they don't want to go past 3 years. Winning today could lead to another albatross contract, so if it happens, great. If it doesn't, move on to the next option.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Fisk was on the '81 & '82 teams. Fisk wasn't in his 8th straight season with the Sox until 1988. The answer to the question...when was the last time the Sox didn't have a position player on the roster for 8 consecutive seasons?, is 1986. Mike Squires 1984-1985 1986 Baines in his 7th season, Squires was done. Other position players in their 8th straight season with the Sox or longer... Harold Baines 1987-1989 Carlton Fisk 1988-1993 Jerry Hairston 1989-1990 Greg Walker 1989-1990 Ozzie Guillen 1992-1997 Ron Karkovice 1993-1997 Lance Johnson 1995 Robin Ventura 1996-1998 Frank Thomas 1997-2005 Ray Durham 2002 Magglio Ordonez 2004 Paul Konerko 2006-2014 Joe Crede 2007-2008 AJ Pierzynski 2012 Alexei Ramirez 2015 And now the longest position player tenure is Avisail Garcia and Leury Garcia, if they play in their 4th straight this year.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
Avi Garcia now has the longest position player tenure with the Sox - August 9, 2013.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
I'd be curious to know what the Sox brass thought of Alexei as a person. Not that he's a bad guy or anything like that, but as a SS who made his fair share of mental mistakes, I wonder if they just wanted to part ways short of an ultra-low dollar figure.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) What a cool bit of trivia. Alexei Ramirez - Paul Konerko - Frank Thomas - Ozzie Guillen - Carlton Fisk - Jerry Hairston - ...? I can get back to 1983. Anybody in 1982? Hairston had a break in there. Squires was in his 8th consecutive in 1983, but 8th overall in 1982. Others in there...Lance Johnson, Ray Durham, Magglio Ordonez, AJ Pierzynski, Greg Walker, Joe Crede, Robin Ventura, Ron Karkovice The funny thing is, the new leader is Avisail Garcia, who would be going into his 4th straight. If he's gone, then it's Abreu and Eaton going into their 3rd. Quite a turnover.

Padres Sign Alexei Ramirez
It's been a long time since the Sox haven't had a position player on the roster for at least 8 consecutive seasons. (Mike Squires in 1983, when he was in his 7th straight season with the Sox)

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Today is the day! Nah, just kidding. Seriously, this offseason has been a turd for baseball. I hope draft pick compensation goes the way of the Edsel after this year.

Jason Benetti, new Sox home PxP
He was just on the Score. Stone was on too. I have a good feeling about this. Home games should be watchable all the way through.

White Sox decline option on Alexei Ramirez
Padres are probably close to signing Alexei or Desmond. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2...ortstop-search/

Jason Benetti, new Sox home PxP
I hope he's from more of the John Rooney school....definitely leaning more for the home team, but isn't going to lose professionalism when things go bad, or lose sleep over a tough loss. Call the game, read the promos, have a couple good quips, let Stone do his job. That's all we need.
-
Jason Benetti, new Sox home PxP
I like what I hear on those clips...hopefully he calls 50 wins this year.

Sounds like he's got good pipes. Hope he and Stone mesh well together, and Hawk realizes he's toast.

Jim McAnany passes
QUOTE (palehose1 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) There is almost nobody left that played with the 1959 championship team. Jim Landis is in very poor health. Jim Rivera & Luis Aparicio are still around. So are a couple of backups - Sammy Esposito & John Romano. That's abut it. Morbid? Maybe. 40 players total - 25 dead/15 alive Still Alive- Age Jim Rivera - 94 Turk Lown - 91 Rudy Arias - 84 Joe Stanka - 84 Sammy Esposito - 84 Lou Skizas - 83 Joe Hicks - 82 Jim Landis- 81 Luis Aparicio - 81 Johnny Romano - 81 Ken McBride - 80 Barry Latman - 79 JC Martin - 79 Gary Peters - 78 Claude Raymond - 78

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
At this point, I hope Cespedes goes elsewhere for no other reason than not having to see people refer to him as "Yo".

Cuban free agents
QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Really getting tired of a few teams just buying all the talent. A cap and an international draft sounds good to me. Too bad the union would never let that happen. The CBA ends on 12/1/16. A lot will be on the table, including that.

Spring Training Schedule

Thanks for sharing. He got decent playing time for the pennant winning team, and recall seeing him at the reunion in 2009. RIP

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 01:16 PM) Does this mean we won't be seeing an Avi Garcia trade? I heard that Everett will be giving a biblical lecture about dinosaurs. Maybe somebody should ask him how he tried to break his wife's cell phone when she tried to call 911 on him.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Then this thread can be deleted. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes. They're one good hitter away from being a legit contender and of course they won't go for it. SMDH. I wouldn't freak out until Cespedes and Upton are on different teams. And even then, don't freak out.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
This may turn out to be a "be careful what you wish for" situation anyway.
