Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 6, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) Surprise, surprise. Lately, it seems like anyone with even the furthest ties to the White Sox isn't too great in his eyes. And any mediocre former Sox prospect, like Tatis Jr, is the next Trout. Keith Law has no White Sox bias. This is absurd. Michael Kopech is his 7th ranked prospect in all of baseball and #1 pitching prospect in the game. Law wasn't high on Moncada or Cespedes either.

2017 MLB DRAFT
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) I think the sox should draft Jake Burger if he's still available. I think he's one of the best in this year's draft. #11 is way too high for Burger

NCAA basketball thread 2017-18
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Apr 5, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) Piper just posted some interesting info. The nuts and bolts are that Tilmon told Underwood and Walker at the end of their in home meeting shortly after Underwood was hired that he was committed and would not ask for a release. Days ago his mother confirmed they were still good. Then he did this out of the blue today without the approval of his mother (she's the main driver of him committing). She was not/is not happy about it and still thinks he'll be in Champaign next year. He also surmised this is all because Tilmon is upset that Mark Smith is getting attention and is making a power play to get more attention (and probably money). If true, f*** that kid. edit: corrected a few minor details. f*** that kid? Really? Isn't he like 18? You are taking this a bit too seriously. All I've seen on twitter is people calling Tilmon names. College sports diehards are so f***ing creepy and weird. Holy cow. People need to leave the kid alone and let him figure out the rest of his life. Also, Orlando Antigua is a big deal. They aren't mutually exclusive, but if I were an Illini fan, I'd rather have Antigua than Tilmon.

Opening Day 4/4/2017 - White Sox vs Tigers
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) I watched the first few innings to see everybody bat once at least and see Q get hammered. --Pathetic crowd as expected. That's all on management. -- This team is going to lose so many games it'll make our heads spin. How the hell is Hawk going to broadcast road games for gawd sakes? He's used to a team on paper that is a contender. -- I would assume this would be a great season for folks to get great seats on stubhub once the weather turns and spread out and enjoy the food of the Cell. There won't be any fans getting in your way in the aisles, etc., for years to come. Absolutely no reason to follow any of these players except Anderson. Have we ever had a worse starting rotation on paper? Ever a worse defense on paper? Blah team speed. Wow. I stick with 59-63 wins max. Maybe less. Who the hell are we going to beat with this pitching staff and this offense? And this defense? I've been waiting all day for Greg's opinion on this

'17 Breakout Prospect
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) It would be really nice to see a Perez breakout, both for a Latin program, and for our catching depth. Carlos Perez and Seby Zavala are catching in Kannapolis with Dunning, Hansen, and Flores.

Zack Burdi... Starter?
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) That's good information right there. I can see now why that makes an interesting option, but isn't it true that the Sox and Burdi seem happy with the present course of action? He's not starting. He will be the closer in Charlotte

ST games in Milwaukee
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) There will be a lot of boos in the Cell this year. There are a lot more fans like me than those who love Sabes and rebuilds. Fans like me will be staying away in droves once the team opens 1-10 and loses at an unprecedented rate. What is proper fan decorum this year? Cheer when the other team scores? And just observe our guys for potential trades? Or cheer for the Sox all the way til the late innings and then root for the other team to rally and win? Somebody needs to explain proper fan decorum this year considering losses are good. You're a special man.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) \ In the league???? It will cost more to go to a Charlotte Knights game this year. Yes. A report came out the other day saying the Sox have the cheapest tickets in baseball.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Don't think he's going to be a top 3 pick though. Same with Baker. Yeah he may not be. College corner players just don't go that high and it's a loaded class.

2017 White Sox prediction thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) I am interested in seeing how I react. I've paid close attention to every season for a long time. But losing game after game is probably going to be the end of my fandom unless I somehow consider all the losing comical. Since I'm not a draft guy, I don't trust our front office to draft the right guys so I don't care about the draft at all. I do have mlb.com again cause I forgot to cancel the automatic recharging. I do know I hate losing and I am expecting 110 or more losses. I'm going to call you out for being happy in 3 years though. Your stance is absurd. If 2 years of losing and player procurement leads to a successful run from 2020-2026, how is that not worth it? You need to take a step back. Don't worry about the day to day. Track prospects. Pay attention to other aspects of the org. But yeah, if you just want to watch each game as a separate entity with no eye toward the future, you probably shouldn't follow the team this year.

QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 12:49 AM) If Seth Beer keeps hitting .253, we might be needing a new guy to target. But yeah, we want a top 2-3 pick regardless of who is there. He has a .488 OBP and his OPS is 1.070.

ST games in Milwaukee
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 1, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Sox just dropped a fly ball. Yeah they are ready for the season. How in the world can fans fill the Cell for Opening Day if they know anything about this team? I'll be there. They finally picked a lane. This is the absolute correct course of action. I'll go my usual 10-15 times. And they have the cheapest tickets in the league.

2017 White Sox prediction thread
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 05:01 PM) Hah, fantastic analysis! Picking in the top three would mean that a lot of things went wrong for the White Sox. I obviously don't want the prospects to come up and fail but I think you are overstating how much of an impact they will have. The Sox rotation is Q, Shields, Holland, Gonzalez, and Dylan f***ing Covey. They could have the worst team OBP in the mob fairly easily. They have some RH power, an above average bullpen, and a stud starting pitcher. How are they going to score runs? This team is terrible and will get worse as they start subtracting players. I'm not really worried about it because I'm fairly confident this is a bottom 5 team in baseball.

ST games in Milwaukee
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) They compare the team against themselves (previous year) and not against their actual competition. Even comparing to last year though is a team that subtracted 11 WAR by trading the 2 best players on the team.

ST games in Milwaukee
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/847896793820135428 Maybe Monday's lineup too? Tyler Saladino is the leadoff hitter. He has a career .294 OBP (albeit very small career) and had a .315 .OBP last year. I don't mind him leading off because I obviously don't care what happens this year but it's funny to me that he's the leadoff hitter and people actually think this team is like 74-78 win caliber. That's not just fans either. Fans are optimistic in nature I think. Some media guys that cover the team feel this way. I don't see it.

2017 White Sox prediction thread
QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I don't think this is the case. The whole reason was to acquire prospect to really build for the future. If the players they currently have play better than expected, it helps the team in two ways and only hurts in one. It helps by 1) having players that other teams want in trades and 2) having a better base to help the prospects. It hurts only in draft position and moneys slots. Although I did say 72 which is below your 73 win failure level. I don't need Seth Beer. They need to pick top 5 though. They need the bigger bonus pool and it would be ideal to pick top 5 in a loaded draft class. Winning 65 games is better than winning 75 games. Winning 75 games is a poor way to pull off what they're trying to do. If you are sitting home for the playoffs, you might as well reap the actual rewards of rebuilding.

If this team wins between 73-78 games the season was a tremendous failure. The whole reason to do this is to be really terrible.

2017 White Sox prediction thread
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) I expect better production from every infield position, catcher, and similar to last year's production from LF and CF. Maybe Avi will surprise us by having a halfway decent season. Pitching is going to be a problem and DH is a big question mark but the managing and clubhouse should be better so I'll say the Sox turn in a pretty meh season with between 75 - 79 wins. That's not taking into account any trades of regulars for prospects that aren't ready to contribute to the major league roster. They have some RH power, a solid bullpen, and 2 good starting pitchers. I have no idea how they are going to get on base consistently though. They have a bottom 5 offense and one of worst groups of starting pitchers in the AL. I just don't see it.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Addition by subtraction. No more Ventura for one. You think managers matter a hell of a lot more than I do. They traded away their 2 best players (Roughly 11 WAR) and added nothing to replace them. 70 wins absolute best record possible for me.
