  1. I’m less certain of how our pitching staff will do next year and clearly there are some major holes on that end, but the projected positional WAR is way too light IMO. I feel pretty good about Abreu & Moncada being around 3.5 WAR players. I think Sanchez, Anderson, Leury, & Delmonico will combine for 8 WAR or so in some fashion. If Avi is around, I see an easy 2 WAR from him. That would be about 17 WAR excluding our catcher spot & DH and not including any potential benefit from Jimenez coming up mid-season. ZIPS seems way too conservative on almost all of these guys.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 02:44 PM) Bad. Very very bad. True, but I think those projections are really off for several guys.
  3. https://www.google.com/amp/comicbook.com/ga...uty-swat-death/ This country is so f***ed up...
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Pretty shocked Davis signed with Colorado. He had Cubs culture for a year. Funny how offering the most money works. Good god man, no one (or almost no one) has argued otherwise, but please arguing against this fake claim...
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 28, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) It cost Chapman nothing. ? He was suspended 30 days, which cost him about $1.7M.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 25, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I don't either. It's possible that Pittsburgh just wants another position as a headliner. If if they trade McCutchen, they'd still have Polanco/Marte/Meadows. I could see them wanting pitching and Miguel Andujar from NY. It does make sense though that the Sox would be in as a 3 way type deal possibly. I truly think Hahn probably "checked" in because it's his job. Something like this could work possibly though. Pittsbugh Gets: Reynaldo Lopez, Justus Sheffield, 2 more prospects NY Gets: Gerrit Cole White Sox Get: Clint Frazier Who is giving up the other two prospects and what caliber are they?
  7. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) They clearly were trying to push the envelop, get some additional press, but they probably went too far. At the end of the day, they've created a great product. They capitalized on an out-dated market and gave consumers an affordable, user friendly product. I'm a fan. I can agree with this, the guy should have probably toned it down some, but to boycott the product over this one dude’s comments is pretty absurd to me. Me on the otherhand will happily $4/month to gain ad-free to their great stable of writers & local content.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 04:57 PM) I agree. Anytime you get 3 pitching prospects (1 really good, 1 good and 1 flyer) in a deal, for one player it's a pretty good deal. They are cutting payroll to rebuild and acquiring young pitching is the way to go. This just seems like a very oversimplistic way of evaluating a trade. The best prospect in the trade profiles as a reliever to most experts. That’s really not going to move the needle much even if he’s dominant. I personally think it was a pretty bad package due to the lack of a higher end centerpiece.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) @MaxWildstein 25m25 minutes ago Source: #Pirates have been receiving calls from other teams on Gerrit Cole, besides #Yankees, maybe #WhiteSox and #STLCards, so he’s expected to eventually be dealt. First: @jcrasnick. Lol...now that makes no sense.
  10. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) Because typically acting like a blood thirsty c*** isn't well received. Their content might be awesome, good for them, but those c***y comments about how everyone else sucks and they want them to all die turned me off of ever supporting them. It’s called business. I can’t really see how anyone would be offended by this unless they worked for Bleacher Report or one of the sites he ripped. Whatever, it’a your loss as the content is beyond incredible.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 23, 2017 -> 12:52 AM) Quotes from their co-founder... “We will wait every local paper out and let them continuously bleed until we are the last ones standing,” Alex Mather, a co-founder of The Athletic, said in an interview in San Francisco. “We will suck them dry of their best talent at every moment. We will make business extremely difficult for them.” and about blogs... “In a city like Chicago, there are 100,000 die-hard fans,” Mather said. “That is a very lucrative subscription business. There are over 100,000 die-hard fans of Chicago teams outside of Chicago,” he added, and he says they aren’t served well. “Bleacher Report is empty calories. SB Nation is empty calories. The newspapers are doing nothing.” If you follow SouthSideSox on twitter, you will have seen their username was "Empty Calories" for a while. How is that bad press? Isn’t he simply explaining his business model?
  12. While I would have loved trading for him if the price was reasonable, at least we made it clear through the media that we really want this guy. Hopefully that’s worth something come next offseason.
  13. I really do wish there was market for Avi because the OF situation is going to get messy once Jimenez is ready. Maybe the crossover over period between a Jimenez call-up and Avi trade is small however and the problem sorts itself out quickly. I just think it’s vitally important to see what we have in Delmonico & Luery and to a lesser extent Cordell. The good news is all those guys have some positional versatility, so we can probably get them some time in the infield and it’s not like Davidson has the DH spot on lockdown. But it would be nice to use next season to help determine if either Delmonico or Cordell can be a long-term OF solution and try to turn Luery into a nice little trade asset.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) I still think that's wrong. Moncada was consensus 1 overall, Devers was top ten overall on many, top 20 on all. Kopech was ~50-ish usually, sure. But 2017, Giolito may not even be on some top 100s. Robert and Hansen are probably ~50-ish. Some may even be lower on Robert because of his age. I think you're really sleeping on these guys. Giolito not make a top 100 list because why? I seriously doubt he would of fallen out of the top 50s on most lists despite his slow start to the 2017 season. Luis Robert was ranked 45th, 23rd, & 37th on mid-season lists (BA, MLBP, FG) based almost solely on third hand scouting reports. He's almost certainly going to rise quickly in those rankings when these evaluators finally get to see him for themselves. And what do you mean Robert might be lower because of this age? Hansen is probably 50ish caliber prospect right now, but he has a ton of helium and will rise significantly with AA success. I don't think your evaluations take away from your initial point, but I think you're vastly underselling the quality of a proposed Giolito/Hansen/Robert package.
  15. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 10:24 AM) It's obviously a bargain, but still hurts the White Sox, so no. Any contender would and should do that. See to me, this is about as high as I’d go. If we’re unable to sign him long-term, we’d at least get a comp pick back. I’m willing to surrender the difference in value and pay his $17M salary to improve my chances of ultimately landing Machado.
  16. Who here would do Cease + Fulmer for Machado? Seems like a no-brainer to me, but I have a feeling I’ll be in the minority on this one.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) Exactly. Let's perform an exercise. Assume Adam Eaton came off a 6 war season and was healthy, but the Nats now want to trade him to make room for Robles (hypothetical since obvi they have room now). Who are the teams that would go after eaton? What are their farms now? In 2 years, you may have the White Sox, Pads and Braves in that position but for this and next year it's brutal. Right now you have to basically hope that the Astros, Yanks and Dodgers want your guy but they are stacked. Rockies seem like the best bet to give up premium talent right now given their window could be ending in the next couple of years.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Anyway I'm not sure why people aren't more glad that we don't have to make this choice for a rental. Also, to yellich - the market this year has been really terrible toward sellers. So sniff around, but we just need to wait. I don't see it getting much better for sellers next year, as what made it so special for the white sox was striking when all the top teams also had the top farms. Their arms race last year depleted that with the white sox getting the most gains. This is what happens when the main buyers are the Giants, Angels and Dbacks, three teams with terrible farms. This is a great point and why I thank god every day for not letting the Sox “go for it” one last time. The amount of talent we brought in between the Sale, Eaton, & Quintana deals could very well be franchise altering. Prospects like Moncada & Jimenez are almost never traded and were able to capitalize on unique market factors to land those guys. While Ozuna isn’t as good of an asset as we had, the return the Marlins got for him was pretty weak and very indicative of the market today. Probably even more reason to hold onto to Avi and hope he figures out how to get some loft, because any potential return will likely be pretty poor.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) Giolito/Robert/Hansen are like back-end top 100 guys. You can’t be serious about this right? All three of those guys are/were top 50 caliber prospects. Giolito has obviously seen his stock drop some, but Hansen & Robert could easily be top 20 prospects a year from now. Hell, I wouldn’t be shocked if Robert was the #1 prospect in all of baseball a year from now. His ceiling is really that high as his tools are simply unreal.
  20. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 10:35 PM) SoxTalk has been way higher on Hansen then basically everyone else since he was drafted. I think we’ll finally see him start catching up in the major rankings lists this year.
  21. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:48 PM) Why do people put Cease and Hansen on the same tier? That makes me want to sell Cease, because Hansen is SO MUCH BETTER. That said, you make the "Cease/Hansen" Cease, drop the Stephens/Guerrero part and make Burger someone Sheets or less and it's not a terrible proposal, though not one I'd want the Sox to do, either. I agree with you on Hansen being a way better prospect than Cease, but no way would I trade Giolito, Cease, & Sheets for one year of Machado. I think you can make a strong argument that Giolito alone is more valuable than Machado. All it takes is him being a 2 WAR/year pitcher and he clearly has more upside than that if all goes right.
  22. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 09:57 PM) Well, he is. It is ok to bring them up every once in a while in casual conversation but the constant barrage of snide comments, if you're doing it in a logical, constructive conversation it is one thing, but trying to antagonize me by making snide comments constantly shows a lack of respect. A workplace is supposed to be a team, the way I look at it is the people that are being paid more or are in higher positions than you are there because they have been doing it longer. Everyone is there because they bring something different to the table. I'm there to learn and do the tasks assigned. I guess I don't look at my boss, or anyone in that matter as an authority figure, but someone who is there because they have more knowledge than I do on the subject. If somehow the members of the team are not allowed to constructively criticize each other because there is some sort of pecking order, then the world is more f***ed than I gave it credit for. Everyone is supposed to be working toward a common goal, right? If I have valid, evidence-based reasons to disagree with someone(I'm talking about actually doing the job here, not politics), and it is good for the team/organization why should I keep my mouth shut, and let the team fail? If someone is so insecure that they can't take being made to look stupid when they have a stupid idea or process to get a job done, then they probably shouldn't be working. You brush it off and take it as a learning experience. I'm sure that everyone has been made to look stupid at one point or another at work, right? First rule of business is your never purposely make your boss look stupid. If you can’t understand that point, then I’m not sure you’re cut out for the corporate world.
  23. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah, 1 is actually my least favorite. Maul is a cool character, but I at least sort of enjoyed the huge Jedi fight in the arena in Attack of the Clones, and love me some Jango Fett. 1 was just such a kids movie, it's really hard for me to watch. The Pod Racing, Jar Jar, all of the Gugan stuff really, Jake Lloyd being...not a good child actor. Just a rough one. Agreed, episode one is easily the worst. Darth Maul may be a cool looking character but he also has zero depth to him. He alone doesn’t overcome all the wrongs with the film.
  24. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) What actually happened to me was an indirect firing; My boss somehow found out my political views and started harassing me about them, I spoke up and said: "Can we just leave politics out of this, it has zero to do with my ability to do a job for you." My boss then chewed me out and I was subsequently dismissed. How was your boss harassing you exactly?
