QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Alternate take - it's now virtually certain that Clint Frazier wouldn't be part of a package for Q. Why?

7/8 Games (Giolito, Stephens, Dunning)
Chicago White Sox replied to Heads22's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm expecting a nice start from Giolito tonight. -
QUOTE (Username @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Royals are supposedly kicking the tires on Gray. Would be awesome if they took him or another top P off the market quickly. Definitely might spur the rest of the market. Would 100% love that. Gets the other TOR starter off the market to a surprise buyer while further weakening a divisional foe's long-term outlook.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) here is a nice list talking chop put together link QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Appears to be a strong class at the top but it's highlighted by high school players. High School: Brice Turang SS CA, Jarred Kelenic OF WI, Kumar Rocker RHP GA, Joe Gray OF MS, Tristan Casas 1B FL College: Brady Singer RHP Florida, Seth Beer 1B/LF Clemson, Luken Baker 1B TCU, Konnor Pilkington LHP Miss State http://m.mlb.com/news/article/236744566/ji...-10-projection/ Thanks for posting. While I wish there was Kris Bryant type college bat at the top, it sounds like Turang, Kelenic, & Gray are all elite high school talents. I'd be happy with any of those three and I think we'll have a great chance at one of them.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Getting the Brewers and Cubs involved would help his market quite a bit, as its hard to see an AL team biting right now. The Yankees are regressing hard and the Astros already have one of the best rotations in baseball. Hopefully the Barves rumors are true as well. I'd prefer him in the NL, obviously. Do they? They have two awesome starters and then a bunch of question marks. That's not going to work very well come playoff time. IMO, they'll almost certainly add another quality starter.

I don't see how we could catch the Phillies, but #2 remains a possibility. Anyone know the top three prospects in next year's draft? I know it's early, but it would be nice knowing if there is some elite positional talent, especially from the college ranks.

QUOTE (Jimmy3Putt @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 08:24 AM) I think the purpose for Robert to stay in the DR was to save HIM in taxes not the Sox. Next year his bonus isn't taxable income just his yearly salary, so he can come over. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) Correct. But I would imagine we won't see a long post ripping Robert for trying to maximize his earnings after being dirt poor. I'd also like to add that this may have helped the Sox land Robert in the first place. The Sox gain NOTHING by having him start over there otherwise, this is 100% about providing Luis with a greater after-tax benefit. Maybe the Cardinals weren't willing to do this or perhaps it effectively made our offer greater than theirs. Regardless, we need to stop with the Sox are cheap narrative every time money is involved. I'll admit I think Reinsdorf botched the 2016 season by not spending more, but otherwise he's been a fairly decent owner in terms of payroll.

If the Brewers are seriously considering adding a TOR starter, then Quintana easily makes the most sense for them. They will definitely value his additional year of control over Gray. And honestly, what else is out there that will be controllable? Seems like any package has to be built around Brinson. I don't see another guy who could be a headliner in their system. After that, I'm not sure what to ask for. Hader would obviously be an interesting guy, but I don't see them trading their most advanced pitching prospect. TBH, their system seems a bit overrated. Ortiz doesn't do much for me and most of their other interesting positional guys are sporting ridiculously high K rates (Diaz, Clark, Ray). I still think the Astros & Yankees are the best fits for Quintana.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 12:26 AM) And now today, without the gym at all, it says 4235 calories burned. Now I did work today, and take the dogs on a walk, so I did over 9 miles of walking (19,000+ steps), but considering I average 13K+ steps during a work day, I feel like if I am really burning 4000 calories or so on a work day, then I should be shedding pounds like crazy. Maybe I eat a lot worse than I think I do. What kind of work are you doing where you do over 9 miles of walking? That would require like 3 to 5 hours of movement depending on your pace. Also, I assume these numbers include your resting metabolic rate? If so, I could see 3,000 to 3,500 calories burned a day max depending on the intensity of your workouts.

7-7-17 Game Thread: Sox @ Rockies
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2017 Season in Review
What really sucks is Lopez is the only guy in Charlotte really pushing for a spot in the rotation. Coming into the season, I was hoping for two or three guys to be ready by now. I'm all for a rebuild, but it's painful watching the Holland, Shields, Gonzalez, Pelfrey quartet. -

Hopefully Frazier has his OPS over .800 after this series. Should help with the marketing process. -

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) And Holland! though I hold little hope for it. I almost put him in there, but I just don't him being much but a salary dump. -
QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) To vary degrees the entire Charlotte rotation has been disappointing. I'm still holding out hope for Fulmer but it's looking bleak right now. I'm fine with Lopez's season so far. He's struggled a bit at BB&T, but has been very good on the road. I think he's a guy who will flourish under Cooper. The other guys I agree with, although Giolito has performed at about expectations for me.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:23 AM) I was just going to ask this question, because for Thursday, it says I burned 4500 calories, and that doesn't even include the hour+ I was in the pool. So probably more like 5000 calories. That includes being at the gym, and also my volleyball tournament, but still, seems really high. I guess I'll have to see how what it's like on a typical work day. I would guess somewhere around 2500. What did you do at the gym exactly? Unless you're prepping for a marathon, I'm going assume your Fitbit is broken as f***.

Build up that trade value Frazier, Melky, Robertson, & Kahnle!

QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Fulmer getting shelled again, also. At this point I've completely lost faith in him as a starter.

Baseball America Mid Season top 100 updated
Chicago White Sox replied to steveno89's topic in FutureSox Board
I think it's pretty ridiculous that Hansen & Dunning didn't make the list. Hell, I think it's absurd that Collins didn't make the list, but I can at least somewhat get the logic there. Hansen & Dunning have both been amongst the best pitchers in their draft class and also have high enough ceilings (especially Hansen) to warrant spots in the 75 to 100 range. -
Robertson, Kahnle, & cash for Soto & Kieboom.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
Chicago White Sox replied to username's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How about when the Astros recently traded Josh Fields for Yordan Alvarez? There are plenty of examples in baseball history of teams turning modest assets into gold by targeting raw, low level prospects with big ceilings. The idea of holding onto a free agent to be because somehow you don't think the return will be worth it is beyond ridiculous. In fact, it comes across as trolling as it defies all logic and common sense. And Greg isn't Rick Morrissey, he's Skip Bayless. Say something stupid, ignore all (well argued) counterpoints, rinse & repeat. Whether he's a true troll or not is up for debate (I have my suspicions), but at a bare minimum he is purposely being obtuse & outlandish to get attention. I mean how many times can we sit here and allow him to say "alleged rebuild" when there is zero doubt we are rebuilding. Honestly, I love this website and the community of posters, but Greg is starting to make posting here a challenge. And sure, I could block him, but his presence will live on through the numerous responses he gets a day. I'm just really tired of having to sift through his bulls*** to get to the quality discussion & debate. It's really unfortunate that one indivual poster can have this much of an impact on the board and nothing can be done about it. -
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) You'd be well served to actually read the posts you quote because you clearly don't, seriously, just give up and move on. Either you're getting your jollies or you're impossibly ignorant. This site has so many good posters who present actual facts to support their arguments and it makes for good discussion then you jump in with a high level, obtuse, oh gosh garbage post, congrats that's around 5000 in a row, you're very gifted at not understanding things. Please just stop. Referencing the fact that people hate your insanely ignorant opinions in 1/3 of your posts doesn't earn your brownie points, you just suck. Please, actually do a modicum of research on ANYTHING or just leave. It's not fun, you're just a nuisance. Literally no one enjoys this s***. If you actually gave a s*** about learning baseball you could have here, instead you just tucked your head up your ass and trolled.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 07:13 PM) Kieboom was in the 50-65 range according to bp chat Seems like a much more realistic headliner for Robertson than Soto.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) Burdi is so far ahead of where he should be in the minors right now, it isn't even funny. The Sox need to just leave him alone in AAA, and even if it takes a couple of years for him to catch up, so be it. It is also worth pointing out that with the increase in the value of a reliever, the old thinking about drafting relievers probably needs to start to change. They have WAY more value than they did 10, heck even 5 years ago. To me it's a market inefficiency. Teams are paying ridiculous prices for elite high leverage relievers, yet a guy like Burdi who has that kind of upside and is nearly major league ready is considered a reach at the end of the 1st round by many and is regularly excluded from top 100 lists. We're talking about a guy who if all goes well could conceivably land an Andrew Miller type return in just a few years, while other potential guys at that spot could very still be in the minors. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't waste an early pick on just any reliever, but I think a guy like Burdi is well worth it.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Really sucks that this was a "if we are competing in August/September this season, we want him in our pen" type of pick. If they had committed to rebuilding at the time of the draft, I'm sure someone else would have been picked. If he becomes an elite reliever, he'll likely be worth much more in trade than whomever we wouldn't have drafted instead. I'm still more than ok with the pick.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) While I don't think that Micker belongs on any top 100 list yet, I am very curious what the prognosticators are seeing this year in regards to the progress he has made this season so far. The power has definitely come around, the K numbers are down, and he seems to be making better contact. While he still has plenty of room to work, I am thrilled with the progress and his health so far this year. Yeah, I'm thrilled with the progress as well, but he still has work to do in the plate discipline department before he enters top 100 territory. But even with moderate gains in that area, he'll be on these lists in no time. And quite frankly, given his overall rawness, I wouldn't be surprised to see a massive leap at some point.

Pitching obviously looks good with three top 50 guys, a guy who probably just missed in Lopez, & another guy who should be in the 75 to 100 range bare minimum. And that doesn't include a bunch of other guys in the 100 to 200 range in Fulmer, Burdi, Adams, Guerrero, Stephens, & Flores. Moncada is obviously awesome, but we desperately need to add more on the positional side. Robert should be a top 50 prospect too, but after that it's really only Collins who is likely to crack 100 lists. Would have been nice if someone had a breakout performance and snagged a spot on these lists. My guess is Adolfo doesn't make the cut despite what should be considered a promising season.
