  1. Yonkers with an infield hit to start the 2nd. Don't stop now!
  2. Would be nice if Quintana could end today with his ERA under 5.00.
  3. My top 20 right now would be: 1. Moncada 2. Kopech 3. Robert 4. Lopez 5. Giolito 6. Collins 7. Hansen 8. Burger 9. Dunning 10. Burdi 11. Delmonico 12. Fulmer 13. Basabe 14. Adams 15. Adolfo 16. Call 17. Sheets 18. Fisher 19. Stephens 20. Guerrero That's about the strongest our 11-20 has been in years. 4 or 5 of those guys could lose prospect eligibility before the end of the season though, so hopefully we can add a few more quality prospects at the deadline.
  4. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:35 AM) Yeah I agree, Torres has been playing 3B extensively at AAA and even with Jacoby locked up for a long time I think the yankees will likely be in a similar situation as the dodgers were with Crawford where he plays as a 20mil a year 4th OF, Frazier is just about ready. I also think with the trades coming up, the sox after this polished draft can afford to be "bold" and target younger players like Rutherford to help reinforce future waves of talent; I would hate to see them lose talent in a similar fashion as the Astros by being forced to move off of JD Martinez and get nothing in return, because top performing prospects are knocking loudly on the door. I'm not sure I understand your JD Martinez point. We literally have like two or three positional prospects that are worth a damn that are above A ball and none of those guys are true outfielders. Adding a legit major league ready OF like Frazier makes complete sense. In fact, it should be our #1 goal at the deadline if at all possible. I'd love to see Delmonico and/or Garcia get a shot in LF, but I'm not passing on a blue chip OF prospect to do so. We can find playing time around the field and at DH for those guys if needed. Furthermore, our OF glut right now is in A ball. Next year we could have Robert, Call, Basabe, Fisher, & Adolfo all start in A ball. That's five legit prospects already and does not include fringier but still somewhat interesting guys in Booker & Schnurbusch, 2017 draft picks like Gonzalez, Dedelow, & Destiny, & potentially a Latin guy or two. We are literally bursting at the seems in OF talent at the lower levels. If you're concerned about waves of talent, we need to get some guys that can potentially be ready in 2018 & 2019 when we should have major league playing time available. That's where our gap is and what we should be addressing with our best trade chips. Go after A ball prospects with the secondary pieces.
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:15 AM) I'm worried the Yankees might go after Gray instead. He's under control for one less year than Quintana, which could be a legit consideration for a team like the Yankees.
  6. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 16, 2017 -> 10:05 AM) I think we match up the best with the Yankees and Cubs tbh. I would love a package centered around Rutherford. I'd rather have Clint Frazier TBH. I get why people like Rutherford (I like him too), but I almost think he's a bit overrated around these parts. If I'm dealing Quintana, I need a positional headliner with a bit less projection. Frazier fits the bill IMO and I could actually see him being available.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 07:59 PM) Hansen needs to be in W-S....sounds like it should be soon according to Hostetler's podcast today with chuck Thank the love of god. Nothing left to prove in low A.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 08:31 PM) I would bet a lot of teams. If he keeps this up until the deadline, he'll be plenty valuable. The more I think about it, the more I think he's a chip we need to cash in.
  9. Not sure where to post this, but the Sox selected four of the top 20 NCAA leaders in HRs in the first 10 rounds: 7. Burger, 22 8. Sheets, 21 10. Skoug, 20 16. Dedelow, 19 82 combined HRs for these four. That's a f***ton of power.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 15, 2017 -> 06:23 AM) EA is releasing FIFA 18 soon, I think Madden is on the way shortly afterwards. I hope Mario Golf comes back though, that was always fun. Mario baseball too for that matter No Madden but a legit version NBA 2K18 is coming. I think that & FIFA is a good start. I have a feeling by the holidays that the Switch user base will finally be large enough to attract 3rd parties. We won't see those fruits until 2018, but it's amazing how much better certain games are with the portability and local co-op factors that only Switch provides. I pre-ordered NBA 2K18 strictly for those reasons.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 11:03 PM) Why? Because it's portable and has a different set of exclusives. I would not recommend a Switch as your only console unless you're a huge Nintendo fan, but having both a PS4 & Switch gives you an access to an incredible library of games and ultimately gives you the best of both worlds at home and on the go.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 09:47 AM) I have quite a bit of experience in this area. First and foremost, your goal is key...if it's weight loss, then a combination of cardio, weight training and diet are the answer. Especially diet. Nothing you're doing sounds bad or wrong...the key is to be consistent...and to keep being consistent even when you don't want to be. You can get a pre-workout to solve this issue...on those days where you just have no energy or don't wanna get up, pre-workouts will give you the kick in the ass you need. Just be careful with them, they're quite powerful because they're stimulants...and don't take them unless needed. Be patient. The weight will come off over time...but you have to understand a few things. Sometimes the scale won't move in the right direction...that's due to your body adding muscle while it burns off fat. Muscle weights 5x as much as fat...so keep the number on the scale in mind that it's not the end all be all and understand that the scale has been bastardized by the fitness/supplement industry to accomplish one thing -- to separate you from your money. As you get in better shape, you may find you look great at your current weight, because that has a lot to do with where the weight is on your frame, versus an arbitrary number on a scale. If when you're in shape you look great at 250 pounds, then don't worry about getting to 240 simply for the sake of a number, etc. What is a "pre workout"?
  13. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Thanks for all the info guys. Biggest thing I am going to change is varied workouts, and take less time between rep sets and workouts. Usually I check my phone for a couple minutes between doing stuff, and my heart rate dropping probably hurts the workout. Oh speaking of heart rate, the elliptical, after I put in my info and on "Fat Burn" category, puts my target heart rate at 123 BPM. However, I am usually going pretty fast and my heart rate is at a steady 145+, peaking around 160 sometimes. Is this alright? My heart isn't going to explode is it? lol. I'm assuming my heart rate being as high as possible will burn fat at a more rapid pace, right? Joe, let me give you some high level advice. The most important thing you need to realize is this going to be a long process and you have to be committed to it from start to finish. It's going to require sacrifice and you may not see results immediately, but it will eventually pay off if you stick with it. Now for some specific advice that's worked for me. Your initial goal should be getting into a workout rhythm. Don't overthink it, just find an exercise routine that's impactful but can be done 3 or 4 times a week. My recommendation would be to start with a low intensity cardio workout that can be done for a long duration (50+ minutes). One thing I highly recommend is to workout on an incline whenever possible as it's an easy, low stress way to burn some extra calories. Some basic strength training is fine, but I wouldn't recommend overdoing it right away. And during these early stages, don't go nuts with the calorie cutting. Obviously don't eat fast food multiple times a week, but reward your body for the work you are doing. Those first few weeks will be rough no matter what and the goal is simply not to quit. Once get into a rhythm however, then start taking your diet more seriously. Try to eat healthy as much possible without starving yourself and cut back on the drinking as much as the social life will allow. Gradually increase the intensity during this time period and you will start seeing the pounds fall off. Eventually your body will adjust and your weight will start to plateau. This is when I recommend switching to high intensity intervals training. At this point you should be ready for something much more intense and HIIT workouts are without question the best. Eventually you can also start expanding your strength training exercises, but IMO that should come last. Get I into good cardio shape before you worry muscle development/toning. If you do the above, there's no reason you couldn't lose a good 30 to 40 pound in 3 to 4 months and still enjoy yourself from time to time.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:34 AM) More disgusting s***. Seriously, I hope none of the three of you I've called out ever complain about the polarization in politics, or politicians making tragedies into opportunities. Congress people are just amplifications. You all need to look in the mirror. Thank you for posting this.
  15. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) I just can't get excited about anything Nintendo. I think the system that had the best games on it was the GameCube personally. Have many great memories with friends playing that system. The Switch is f***ing awesome. And if you already own a PS4, it's the perfect gaming complement. Unfortunately, too many people can't get over the "kiddie"' image and give Nintendo a chance.
  16. QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 07:19 PM) Too much complaining about a catcher with a .388 OBP and an .854 OPS FIFY
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Who will they replace them with? If it's the highly touted young players, you should hope they won't be a bad team. Otherwise the future is bleak. You keep saying this and continue to not acknowledge there a maturity curve with young players. Just because a young struggles in year one does not mean he will be a bad player and it most definitely doesn't mean the future is bleak.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) It hasn't been said yet by the organization, but I really would bet money that their willing to pick up a large chunk of money in a deal went down a lot with the signing of Luis Robert. That is a $50 million check that Jerry and the partners have to write now. Are they going to be willing to write another $10 million check to Washington? Eh, I can't see it. The cost is only sunk if the assumption is that they couldn't take less in a trade to get someone to take the contract. Can't the bonus be paid over multiple years? Wasn't that the exact reason why some posters here thought we got money with Moncada?
  19. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) One troubling thing though: I am worried about the Sox lack of regard for defense. It is possible to have an infield of Burger, Anderson, Moncada, Sheets and Collins in a couple of years. Some of those guys could be average-ish, but overall that's not very good. I think it's way too early to jump to conclusions on Anderson & Moncada. Both have the tools to be above average and Anderson actually looked the part in 2016. And isn't Sheets supposed to be pretty good defensively? Maybe I'm wrong there. Regardless, I do agree with your general premise though and would add infield defense should be an even bigger priority if we plan on continuing to add ground ball pitchers. There's a synergy we'd be potentially forgoing by adding bat first players in the infield.
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 05:24 PM) Sox are at that percentage with -1 in RD. That's about the best case scenario. Team is better "on paper" than in the standings, but we need the losses, duh. Not sure that run differential really reflects the quality of the team. We were first place in the MLB for runs allowed for like the first month or so, no one who follows this team should have ever expected that. The team is regressing to the mean and so should our run differential and not in a good way.
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) I agree with a lot of this and had the same experience in ST but that line is bit much. Outside of a 40 game stint in BHAM last year, Delmonico has never slugged like that. Even in a bandbox in Charlotte he hasn't slugged .460. There is a trend of players getting to the big leagues and showing more power though so it's not ridiculous by any means, but just a bit heavy for me. What I like from Delmonico, other than his hack, is that he has slashed his K rate this year significantly. Outside of a low A ball, he's been 20+ K% at the least. He was 21% and 25% in AA and AAA last year. This year he is at 16.7%. What I don't like from Delmonico is he is an absolute butcher at 3B. The Sox like his makeup so maybe they're giving him more time to figure it out but this guy is awful out there defensively and from what I've seen, a lost cause. He should've been tried in LF yesterday. The other thing to consider with Delmonico: Home: .351/.438/.613 & Away: .198/.261/.328. I noticed those home/road splits yesterday and they are insane. The problem I have is they're not just power related. IIRC, almost every KPI is significantly worse on the road than at home. Obviously I'm not a baseball expert, but I can't think why BB & K rates would be radically different home vs. away. Not sure if the difference is simply randomness or if maybe there is a hangover effect from playing home games at BB&T ballpark similar to Coors.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) Hypothetical: What would you ask from the Nats for Robertson, Kahnle AND Swarzak All three??? Turner probably.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) I do wish we had more prep bats, but great falls isn't that bad for this year to integrate them. A great many of these 11-40 guys will not make it past that. W-S and Birmingham have few position players that are holding spots, and of the players you mentioned, I don't think sox would be too concerned pushing college draftee fringe players like Booker, Roman, Remillard, etc a little more aggressively to make sure the higher tracked players are getting the pace they need. If they're willing to be aggressive with some of these guys (including the ones in the system already), then I'm far less concerned. In fact, it's exactly what I want to see happen with the group in Kannapolis. It's just that Getz has been incredibly conservative so far. Maybe he's waiting until the all-star break to move guys up, but I hate seeing prospects in their 22-23 age season and up playing in low A, especially the fringey ones. And I definitely don't want to see any top 10 round college picks starting 2018 in Great Falls, which is my concern. 2017 is obviously fine, but you got to get most of these guys to high A pretty quickly if you want them facing age appropriate talent.
