Releasing Todd Frazier would be one of the dumbest things we could possibly do. This isn't a one year process, so if guys like Delmonico & Davidson have to wait an extra couple months before getting playing time so be it. Frazier is only an extended hot streak away from becoming a decent trade chip. There are several teams that will be looking at 3B upgrades come July and Frazier has a chance to be the top option on the market. There is potential upside in waiting this thing out.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Right, which isn't much. There's also the downside risk keeping Todd as he's injury prone and if he can't pass a physical the Sox will come up empty. How is Todd Frazier injury prone exactly? Cause of this year?

This thread makes no sense, what the f*** do half of those players have to do with Quintana? And a bunch of the other ones were certaintly not available for him. All I see is a token caulfield random name list.

Moncada to stay in Charlotte a while

QUOTE (Lillian @ May 10, 2017 -> 04:41 AM) The 30% strike out rate doesn't concern anyone? Although he is on pace to hit 30 homers, he only has 3 doubles and 1 triple, which isn't much for a guy with his speed. I don't think that it is accurate to say that he is dominating AAA. He certainly has not done enough to suggest that he has nothing more to prove, at that level. Striking out 30% of the time, while compiling 10 extra base hits, and driving in only 11 runs, in the first 28 games, is not awe-inspiring. Considering his age, what exactly is the hurry? If you're evaluating a prospect by RBI's, you're doing it wrong. Agree on the K rate, there is room for improvement there. -
Lots of hot takes in this thread. Giolito has never had a stretch like this in his entire minor league career and yet people think he's suddenly a 7.00 ERA pitcher cause why? It should be perfectly clear to everyone here that he's struggling as he works through his mechanical changes. He may not ever be the prospect he once was, but writing him off as a starter at this point in time is f***ing ridiculous. This was always going to be a process and people need to give it some time before jumping to conclusions.

Apparently the rumor is the Nationals are sending their top scout to the Sox-Twins series this weekend to evaluate Robertson. To me that's a big deal if true.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 7, 2017 -> 11:37 AM) Matt Cooper, Jordan Guerrero or Tyler Danish all would be more interesting. None are really ML ready, but Cooper is probably deserving of a shot. He is 26 and isn't getting any younger...I'd rather see him make a few starts until we're back healthy and Lopez is up than watching any more of Covey. I'd much rather push Cooper to AAA and have him get some starts there vs. call him up to the majors right now. I don't care that he's 25, he only has 5 starts above the A+ level. AA doesn't appear to be a challenge at the moment (SSS), but AAA is a different animal with much more seasoned hitters to deal with. Again, let him prove his worth in Charlotte and if all goes well maybe he can be part of the mix by June or July. That is a much more sensible development plan. I really think the age card is being overplayed here with Cooper.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 7, 2017 -> 09:59 AM) Wasteful, even in a rebuilding year, to trot out Covey. As discussed in the game thread the Sox have better options in guys that might actually have an mlb future. Which of those guys are ready though? Covey's a complete joke, but when the #1 goal of the season is developing young talent and not winning, who really cares if Dylan embarrasses himself out there once every five days. The last thing we should be doing right now is rushing any of our key prospects because the incumbent sucks balls. I will add if someone interesting hits waivers, I would dump Covey in a heartbeat.

Without any trades, I'd say the rotation has the most potential need for reinforcements. That makes Fulmer & Lopez the likely favorites IMO.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 6, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) He already said he was 26, not a top prospect but would rather give him a chance. I'm in 100% agreement with him. I know how big of a fan he is. Been posting (and was a writer) on FS for years so certain posters I know who likes who. Lol...talk about moving the goalposts. I called him a legit prospect, which Feeky would agree with. I never once called him a top prospect, which is what you are implying. Again, a guy striking out 13 per 9 innings in AA is a legit prospect. And I've already said on the FS forum that I hope Cooper gets an opportunity this year. He's simply not ready for that opportunity just yet and either are Lopez, Fulmer, or even Danish. I wish we had something better than Covey to throw out there every five days, but I'm not rushing any prospect with legit major league upside because I tired of watching the incumbent suck balls during a rebuilding season. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 6, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) Not even gonna get into it. Feeky is right on the money though. Wow, you do realize that Feekey is Matt Cooper's biggest fan and would consider him a legit prospect right? I have no idea what you're trying to prove here... -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 6, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) I see the word prospect is just being thrown around like nothing these days. I'm sorry, but WTF are you implying here? A guy striking out 13 per 9 innings in AA is a prospect. -

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:32 PM) Yep. Danish, Cooper and Guerrero would all be more interesting. Heck I'd rather give Luebke a shot. Lopez will be up soon enough. Shields and Rodon to follow. Hopefully this is it for Covey. Covey is terrible, but do you honestly want to rush legit prospects so you can be entertained in a rebuilding season? -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Matt Cooper is nearly 26, not a top prospect and has double the AA innings as Covey. This year he's K'ing 34% of batters and walking 6%. White Sox promoted Quintana straight from AA. I'd much rather see him than Covey, to give one example. Cooper is a legit prospect and should be developed though. I don't want him being called up before he is ready regardless of his age. -

Covey has a purpose and it's to delay calling up our important prospects before they're ready. I honestly think some posters here don't realize we're rebuilding. Who exactly would you like to see up instead of Covey? -
QUOTE (Brian @ May 6, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) Everyone doubting CT. It's pretty obvious to me he wins. Just feels like he will because of editing. Nelson has to be pretty far ahead at this point.

Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Dane Dunning

Regarding Lopez, any chance his control problems have been related to working on his cutter? He mentioned in spring training that was something he was focusing on. -

IMO, we break-even on the trade if we end up with a #3 type starter and a high leverage reliever. Anything more than that is a clear win for us. Obviously I wish Giolito was doing better out of the gate, but I'm giving it him a few months before I start to panic. Restoring his mechanics was always going to be a painful process and we're seeing that now. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 4, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) I'm glad someone else noticed the defensive improvement last year. I think earlier in the spring I had said he had improved but since Eaton was out there most of the time it was hard to tell but the DSR or dWar was positive if I remember right. The statcast data on 1-5 star ratings was also encouraging to me although I've seen it misinterpreted . I'll give you credit, you did make this argument during the offseason. I'll admit I was skeptical of the small sample size, but so far he's looked better out there this year.
