  1. I'm more willing to buy into a potential turnaround for Avi than Davidson. Both have ridiculously high BABIPs, but Avi at least has some indicators of a better approach and doesn't have a huge red flag like Matt's 45% K rate (which many posters keep ignoring). I really think Davidson is going to crash & burn in the coming weeks.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 16, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) The problem is it isn't going to clikck. He needs more time in AAA. Obviously you would expect him to at least get a hit here and there, but his struggling terribly should surprise no one. Bourjos sucks, but if you think May has potential, he should be playing in Charlotte until he has success there,at the very least. Oh I agree, but May is such a fringey prospect to begin with that I'm ok letting him sink or swim. I came into the season with the expectation that May would be an epic fail (all you had to do was look at his AAA numbers), but that's still better than what Bourjos would have provided in the grand scheme of things. Don't get me wrong, Bourjos would have been the better player, but wins don't matter right now and he would not have been nearly good enough to have any real trade upside.
  3. I know people like to b**** May (and for good reason), but he's helping us get losses. And I'd rather throw away at-bats on him than a has-been veteran like Bourjos in the off-chance something clicks.
  4. Need a strong start from Lopez today. Would be nice to have one of the bug three pitching prospects in AAA really pushing the door come late May / early June.
  5. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 05:51 PM) Although it's likely just wishful thinking, my hope is that Avi and Davidson continue to perform well enough to accelerate the rebuild. If that happens, with Quintana remaining part of the rotation until 2021, the Sox could be competitive sooner than we think. I think Avi and Davidson are huge keys in that equation. Of course they aren't going to continue on their current torrid paces, but if they become key contributors going forward, with Moncada coming, the Sox wouldn't have that many holes to fill. Without a couple of established, solid starters, that accelerated rebuild would be very difficult. I love Kopech and Lopez, and am hopeful for Giolito, but counting on all of them is unrealistic. Davidson is striking out in nearly 50% of his at-bats. I don't get the hype around here for him whatsoever. And Avi has had plenty of stretches like this is in the past. I need to see a half season of success before I even consider him being a possible long-term solution and even then where do you play given his terrible defense?
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 15, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) I'm probably his biggest fan on this site. I always knew, but I'm waiting till the league adjust to him until I thump my chest. Right now, he's off to a great start though. His K rate is at 47.8%, don't think the league has to do much adjusting. People are in for a world of dissapointment when his .625 BABIP & 43% HR/FB ratio come screaming back down to earth.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 11:52 PM) Except according to their own rules, they weren't allowed to do ANYTHING once he'd already boarded the plane without violating their own carriage agreement. The argument he later became "combative/disruptive" was directly caused by BREAKING their own rules (trying to de-board someone involuntarily) which were not adhered to here. Well I'm not sure that's a true statement. The article you provided seems to challenge whether they had the right to boot him off the plane, but acknowledged it was somewhat of a gray area given the fact it involved the crew of another flight. I would guess this happens from time to time and is within their rights, but if not, then I will fully acknowledge this particular group of United employees f***ed up here. Having said all that, the post you quoted was simply challenging BigSqurt's understanding of the general rules/laws regarding passenger compensation for voluntarily/involuntarily removal from a plane.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 11:56 PM) Yes, it's market (cap) valuation...look at the fall in the Dow this week, compared to UAL. At least 50-75% is clearly related to this individual incident. That's not even measuring losses/lowered profitability in terms of revenue over the next quarter or two. Maybe $100 million was hyperbolic, but they'll start out asking for $25-50 million because they have 3 deep-pocked entities involved here. And that's not even taking into consideration potential lawsuits (the teacher and his students) who potentially can argue damages as witnesses/direct participants in the day's events. My point is the stock will rebound. Nothing has been lost. Any setback in operating performance (which is a reach) will be short-term in nature. This is simply an overreaction in the market to a big negative news story. Happens all the time.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) http://finance.yahoo.com/quote/UAL/?ltr=1 United getting fairly close to their low of two days ago. I'll guess they start out in the $100+ million range and settle before it even gets to trial. Nothing good is coming out of a prolonged public spectacle for UAL. They've already lost close to $750 million, not even including cancellations in the last 48-72 hours. Are you actually suggesting this dude will be asking for $100M? Where in the hell did you come up with that number? The largest lawsuit my company has faced in the past six years (and we have faced a dozen or so serious ones) was $20M and that involved the deaths & dismemberment of a half dozen people. This guy will get a couple million max in a settlement. And what's this lost $750M? Please don't tell me this is stock price related.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) Not sure what they could ultimately get for this but both United and the aviation police screwed up. First of all, United did not follow policy/protocol for bumping someone off a flight who did not volunteer to do so. Someone posted the link earlier but if they were going to remove him from the plane, he was supposed to be offered up to 4x the cost of his ticket in cash/check (maxed at $1300 or so). They only offered $800 and it was in United vouchers so that shouldn't have counted. The police, on the other hand, used excessive force against a non-threatening senior citizen and wound up doing serious physical damage. I just don't see how he doesn't get a pretty hefty settlement. You really don't get how this works at all. United can offer them whatever they want in vouchers (up until a self imposed limit per internal policy) to get customers to voluntarily forgoe their ticket. If they have to force someone off unvoluntarily, they have to by law pay a specific amount based on how much of the passenger's time is lost as a result. Unfortunately, given that he refused to get off the plane in the first place (and eventually forced off by police), this benefit was likely never presented to him. So when you say United did not follow policy and cite the example used above, you are completely incorrect.
  11. Dunning has no business being in low A.
  12. I still think people are panicking way too early on Giolito. He's restoring his old delivery and I would not expect his veleocity to immediately return. Let's give him a few months before jumping to any conclusions.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:41 AM) C'mon man. This.
  14. I don't think Law has a White Sox bias, but IMO he purposely goes for some shock rankings to drive traffic/attention.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:21 AM) 4) It's almost the perfect case study for a class on public relations/customer service/how NOT to do damage control until hundreds of millions of dollars of company/shareholder value have disappeared. This is just ridiculous, the stock price will rebound as soon as people move on to the next faux outrage subject. No long-term shareholder value has been lost as a result of this. United will pay some measly settlement to this guy (a big amount for him but not them) and people will continue to fly an airline they generally dislike because that's the way the industry works. No matter how hard people like you or BigSqwert to try to burn them to the ground, they will keep chugging along like business as usual. So maybe it's time you find a different "cause" to put your efforts behind, because you're just wasting your time with this one.
  16. Reynold back out for the 6th despite approaching 100 pitches.
  17. United may suck as an airline, but it's amazing to me how many people want to see them burn to the ground over one isolated incident. Our country has really gotten out of control with this faux outrage culture. And lol @ the comment about business schools studying this fiasco for years. This will be long forgotten in a few short months and the stock price will rebound even sooner.
  18. Damn, outside of that HR, Lopez has been straight filthy so far tonight. 3 IP, 6K, 1 BB, 1 H, 1 HR, 1 ER
  19. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 07:53 AM) It's like the other posters have said. If it stays at this rate in the MLB, it will be fine. however, high K rates in the minors may have a bigger effect on the contact rate in the MLB if it goes up and the BB rate goes down. It isn't a death sentence right now but it isn't a positive. Nice summary, my thoughts exactly.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:23 AM) Poor guy was bleeding. I tell you what there should be additional lawsuits from people claiming they were traumatized. If I get blood of another human being on me, I'm suing. Wow, this post is exactly what's wrong with this country. If someone is traumatized over watching this, then they must have lived the most sheltered life possible.
  21. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) It's not like the Sox were stuck with this guy The went out and got this guy. This guy specifically. They went out and got this guy for free. That's the key here. And they signed him to most likely be a bench piece. Right now he's in the DH mix, but if Davidson continues to show anything, Asche will get less and less playing. I guess I don't really get why cares this much about a guy who is meant to be a backup.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) I think people still care way too much about strikeouts. In what sense? I'd wager that prospects with high K rates tend to bust far more frequently than their counterparts, as their K rates are only going to get worse at the major league level. Sure, there are exceptions, but I'm not banking on Moncada being the next Kris Bryant. I'm not panicking about this just yet since the sample size so small, but a 30% K rate in AAA (if it stays at that level) screams that the kid needs more development time IMO.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) And the winner for worst take goes to..... This directed at me? If so, at least quote my post if you're going to take a dig at me without providing a single counterpoint.
  24. Hate to be the debbie downer here, but I want to see Moncada cut down on his K rate. Obviously it's a very small sample, but striking out 30% of the time in AAA is a huge red flag. I'd ideally like to see him in the 20% to 25% range before calling him up.
