  1. The real test of whether the tank is over will be: 1. Can they at least play respectable baseball against the Yanks and Red Sox this week? 2. Will they call up Eloy on Sept 1? If the answer to both is yes, then I buy that the tank is over.

Yeah I saw this. A bit disingenuous considering Altuve's K rate was 12.6% and Moncada's is 34.5%. I get what he's going for but they're too dissimilar as players to compare.
  3. Well, its the Royals, Tigers and Twins, but hey, a win is a win.
  4. I think WBWSF, with his insistence that he be the next GM of the White Sox, is hilarious. Anyways this thread is a short sighted overreaction to a small sample, like a lot of threads here, really.

I forgot our boy broke his leg lol. It's anybody's race!

If Bauer wins it this year then no, probably not.
  7. Lol some people just love to complain. Nevermind that he isn't getting paid while suspended, that he played pretty well before that, that we don't know what kind of player Narvaez is long term (probably a 0-1 WAR backup, but maybe not!) and we DO know what kind of player Smith is (bad) - he thinks signing Castillo was a mistake. Complain about something else. I'll be glad to have Castillo back. Catching talent is really poor throughout baseball right now, and he's competent. I'll take it.

I think there's no official word, but he threw 42 pitches in that one inning, and it was raining.
  9. I gotta go against the popular consensus here and say the Sox should look to trade one of their OF prospects for a SP. I'm not sure you can count on anyone in the rotation currently being healthy (Rodon) or good (everyone else) long term. Attrition is enough of a problem that even Kopech and Cease shouldn't be counted on. You can never have too much, right?
  10. So Palka is officially our large adult son now huh

K/BB ratio is also important, and Flores' is good (6K/1.94BB). He has excellent control, despite the lack of Ks.
  12. A guy with as much clout as Verlander should be able to voice an opinion dissenting from the moves of ownership, but who knows how things work in Houston. I hope he just comes out and says "This is bullshit" but I guess he probably wont.
  13. For...international bonus pool money? That doesn't seem right. Two wily, well regarded GMs... something is afoot.
  14. Probably not, but August should yield what you seek. Rumors have been very light for the Sox this year, I think they plugged a lot of leaks in the last few years.
  15. There's no pressure on any team to disavow or otherwise discipline domestic abusers. Christ, the Mets are still paying Jose Reyes and he isn't even good. Character matters for nothing at this level of professional sports, and it never will until the fans say differently.
  16. Well, they traded a spouse abuser to the Sox, so now they need to take one back to balance the universe.
  17. Injuries are a big deal. If Luis Robert and Burger can't stay on the field, those a two huge busts. Dunning and Hansen have spent extensive time on the shelf. Eloy has been on the DL multiple times. These aren't minor concerns.
  18. Pads, Braves, Rays are clearly better. Yankees are maybe better. Marlins and Blue Jays could eclipse them by the end of the season, depends on deadline action. Sox farm is also having a really bad year, could rebound next year and still be top 5 even with Jimenez and Kopech (hopefully) graduating.

Eloy doubled. Keep checkin' those boxes.
  20. I get the sneaking suspicion that these boxes will be checked right after Shields and/or one of the Garcias is traded.

    Nice

In which case I would include Basabe in that group. So far, health excepted, the returns look good.

Guessing, but they were considered secondary players in the major trades of the rebuild?
  24. I guess Soria is the best rental left on the market.
  25. From most likely to least... 1. Shields (think the $$$ makes him an August guy) 2. Santiago 3. Some other bullpen arm (Volstad, etc) 4. Stephens 5. Some other starter
