  1. Moderately optimistic Moncada will trim the K rate. Around 28%, while keeping the BB% the same, and I think he will be elite. As is, he is limited but useful. Pretty optimistic that Lopez has taken a step forward and will be a solid MOR guy. Not optimistic on Giolito. Don't see an MLB future there. Palka needs to talk to Davidson, if he does to his BB rate what Matty did this year he is a viable DH. I don't buy Narvaez suddenly being one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, but if he isn't, he's useless. He sure won't make it on defense. Not terribly optimistic.
  2. Kevan Smith is replacement level junk, no one wants him. I have trouble lining up the Yankees and Sox for a Gray trade, but he'd be someone i'd like as a bounce-back guy. Also pretty interested in Dylan Bundy, who probably will not continue to yield 2+ hr/9.
  3. Eh, i'd just keep Rodon, the SP is weak enough without trading a starter. Andujar is a butcher at 3rd, too. He seems like a good OF conversion project. Gray was bad, but i'm not sure Nate Jones is enough. I think that would be a good starting point though. Lets them replace Robertson without paying premium $$$.
  4. From his chat today: Dan Szymborski: I think it can also be a bit misleading. Some teams outsource some aspects more than others. For example, the White Sox do.
  5. Realistically, overturning Roe is unnecessary for the GOP, since its already virtually impossible to get an abortion in large swaths of the country. They'll just keep limiting people's access, since that is already more effective than a big political battle. I don't want to sound like i'm minimizing the impact it would have to overturn Roe, it would certainly be another clear indicator that women's lives don't matter to those in power, but I also don't think it's even close to the worst thing coming down the pipe.
  6. Dude has said he doesn't consider Roe "settled law" but I guess we'll see when the inevitable challenge is heard in court.
  7. TINSTAAPP is more of a warning than a credo. WAR and other valuation models work with averages, and on average, the bust rates for pitchers are substantially higher. One flaw a lot of the valuation model for prospects have is that they, necessarily, work with data from 5-10 years ago. I'd love to see how recent changes in the way pitching staffs are handled (ie the trend towards shorter starts and longer bullpens, improvements in health/mechanics) affect pitcher valuation, or if they affect it at all.
  8. Scioscia would be a punishment, not a reward.
  9. I think they won't sign Machado, but it won't be for lack of trying. Anyways i'm sure the 50 mil they commit to mid-level veterans for next season definitely won't result in said veterans having the worst seasons of their career. Absolutely not, nope. Never happen.
  10. Palka needs to compare notes with Davidson this offseason.
  11. If I was the Sox, i'd try to maximize my chances in 2019 and 2020, because there's almost certainly going to be a work stoppage in 2021. I feel like Eloy being acclimated to the MLB is a big part of that.
  12. Cuz it's a shitty way to treat your employees? I'm sure he'll brush it off because he's a professional, but it still sucks.
  13. In this division, with a patchy offense, i'll say 7-9 or 8-8.
  14. Boy its going to be awkward when they demote him for two weeks after ST.
  15. Imagine you call him up now, and he crushes it. I mean, just kills the ball until the very end of the season. Then you send him down after ST and say, see you in a month. You think he's pissed NOW? You want to give his grievance case MORE ammo?
  16. Swap Bummer for Viera, I really don't see a future there without a drastic improvement in control. Also I think they'll sign a starter. Covey is...not good.
  17. Betts, Jose Ramirez, Trea Turner all have good shots.
  18. Am I imagining things or is Rodriguez the guy with like a 1 ERA against the White Sox? This could be a long night.
  19. Good call. Jones to 60-day. I feel sorry for the kid, terrific stuff but his arm is like an overcooked turkey leg at this point...
  20. Looking at the 40 man and the only obvious move for me is to cut Clarkin. I'm not entirely sure how that goes - do they just outright him off the 40-man, and does that open him to waiver claims? Would you call it a DFA if the player has no MLB time?
  21. Right, just relax and think about next year, having Burdi and Hamilton in the pen instead of Gomez and Santiago.
