Two poll questions as we enter the offseason
daggins replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Give me Latos or Fister. Trade EJ for a 3B or SS. I voted payroll at 120-129 and I tend to think lower. -
Well, Brad Miller is off the table. Rays got him for Karns. Let the Hot Stove officially begin!
-
Padilla was speculating they may even contract payroll, which would mean they have basically no money to play with. This might explain not picking up the Ramirez option.
-
I can't see the Sox making a serious run at him. They'll gauge interest and make calls, but in the end, it's too much money.
-
He's out of options, so he'd have to make the 25 man roster, or else clear waivers to get to Charlotte. Not impossible, but unlikely. His arm is pretty thrashed but who knows.
-
for Charlotte, sure. Maybe he ends up a late bloomer, but I can't see him getting an MLB deal this offseason.

My FA/realistic trade targets for this offeason
daggins replied to TheFutureIsNear's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I like Trevor Cahill as a low cost SP option. Strong GB rate this season. Jury is still out if Murphy gets a QO. Just know that if he doesn't his AAV will probably be in the 13-15MM range. -
Just going by wRC+, Abreu is ranked 30th in MLB, with 129. Schwarber, in 287 PA, had a 131. So technically, he already is a better hitter. Again, its just a hunch.
-
I agree that the Cubs wouldn't do that trade. They don't really need starting pitching and they can bring in a FA without giving up talent. W/R/T Montas, its not so much his stuff or command as his body type and injury history. He could work past that, for certain, but the odds favor him being a reliever. I would say Schwarbs will outhit Abreu next season. Just a hunch.
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) Hate that Q deal. Not me. Schwarber would instantly be our best hitter, and Candelario and Baez are far better than any of our infield guys. Q hurts, but Montas is a bullpen arm and Carlos Sanchez is a bench player. Gotta give to get.

I'm all aboard the Hanley train btw, since I: 1. Live in Boston and am sick of hearing about how Hanley sucks 2. Think he will be kind of ok next year. With the bat anyways 3. Have read he is a good teammate and not the jerk everyone says he is 4. Believe the Sox should hold on to their prospects this offseason.
-
He's a good candidate to bounce back given his low BABIP. He'll never be a good defender again, though. Still, he'll be almost completely free.

White Sox have worked out Eddy Julio Martinez twice or more

Jerry's a plutocrat, man. He's a symbol of anti-union, owner-dominated baseball. He has to stay in line with the policies he supported (and helped write) that keep money away from players and power concentrated at the top. -

Two things: 1. The Cubs have already blown way past the spending limit, so to them, this isn't a big deal. Just a few more pennies. 2. The fact he got less than a third of what was projected tells me he ain't all that. Bottom line, it didn't make much sense for the Sox to sign this guy and lose the ability to sign anyone for over 300K next year when they can just clean up next offseason. Now if that doesn't happen then yeah, sucks. Watch them come in under again next year. Reinsdorf is such a tool. -

Cubs got him. 3MM -
Miller is appealing because he could play SS or 3B and is a decent lefty bat Ozuna is appealing because the Marlins FO is dumb.
-
Q: Do you think Erik Johnson could bring back one of the following: Marcell Ozuna Brad Miller Just tossing out ideas.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Yeah the more we talk the more I think we'd be much better off going with our exact same lineup. I think that the Sox will bring in 3B help definitely. Otherwise, I expect to see most of the same faces as this year.
-
Team 1 / Team 2 overlooks a lot of differences between the two clubs, such as payroll, expectations, clubhouse chemistry, and managerial demeanor.
-
According to Cots Contracts, we have 5 arb eligible guys - Jones, Flowers, Putnam, Avi and Jennings. Putnam, Avi and Jennings are all Arb 1. Garcia probably won't be non-tendered, and he's the only one that is on the edge.
-
So what, they use next season to basically "live interview" replacement candidates? Will Stone even be back next season? Maybe the prospect of less Hawk will entice him to stay.

You know, it's possible that this guy isn't as impressive as people thought. The fact that he signed for so little tells me that 29 teams weren't willing to go higher. The Sox should save their pennies and go big next year. -
Guys, I think Mark's arm will probably fall off soon. Let the man retire.
-
Avi would do well to consider what JD Martinez did to overhaul his swing. Seems like in his Astros days, he had similar issues to Garcia. Free swinger, can't leverage considerable raw power. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/j-d-martine...ny-adjustments/

He's had ~1100 MLB plate appearances. He hasn't shown any growth in power or plate discipline. He's awful defensively. I'm not saying the Sox need to cut bait, but he can't be considered a starter in 2016 if there are pretenses of contention.
