  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) If it were that easy, they could fix Gordon and Rios, too. 75% of it is confidence...his long swing and "slider speed bat" has always been there. Power hitters will never be comfortable choking up on the bat. Even singles hitters rarely choke up these days. And there's a larger issue. He's so far off the plate, he needs that bat length to reach the outer half. Now whether he should be so far off the plate...that's another issue altogether, but he obviously feels comfortable there compared to crowding the plate like Quentin does. He doesn't need that big of a bat. He can hit the outside pitches with a shorter bat. The problem is that he appears to only like outside pitches, but he tries to pull all of them. Because of this he can't hit inside or center pitches very well and seems to swing around them. Rios-same thing, can't hit inside pitches. The loop of both of these guy's swings goes around inside pitches. My advice for both guys, lose the softball swings. Dunn should close up his stance and Rios should open his stance. Both guys should choke up. At this point, both guys could hit more pitches right down the middle of the plate & help hit some inside pitches too. That and somebody should tell Dunn to aim at hitting balls over the fence, not over the concourse!!
  2. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Hawk is a polarizing figure to be sure. There's boatloads to criticize, with umpiring complaints at the top of the list for me. However, if you have the Extra Innings package or you're a frequent traveller to other MLB towns, you may realize that he's rather good at his job from an entertainment standpoint. There's SO much blandness out there it's numbing. I agree completely. Hawk is d--n entertaining!! There is a lot of blandness out there!!!
  3. In. The first start of the year was ruff and we didn't play great, but I have a feeling. This year we have had a bad Adam Dunn. Beckham started slow. Danks had bad luck earlier. Rios has been garbage, but now De Aza is mixing it up the way lillibridge did earlier in the year. All in!!!
  4. Look at his numbers, he has no consistency what so ever. He hits home runs in the first half in some years and not in other years. His average before all star break is better in the first half some years and better in the second half in some years. One year his average is the same in the first half as the second half. He is not a thinker, at all. After reading the trib article about how he doesn't want to hear what anybody has to say, I can see why Walker can't do anything with him. Rios may be off to a bad first half, but at least he can actually make contact. Rios batting low .214 is bad, but he can still get the average up to .270's. On top of not wanting to change things up urging wise, he is really frustrated and his confidence is shot. They need to send him to the minors so that he can see the ball being hit in a live game, otherwise he'll be down to .100 by the end of the summer. Maybe even lower. At this point the consistent striking out is the only thing he can do. Maybe intentionally walking Mauer for now on would be the best thing to combat the twins.
  5. Make him dress like Ricky Bobby until he figures it out!!!
  6. Poor Walker, first Rios & Dunn, now Beckham can't hit. Can't believe Rios & Dunn keep making him look so bad. What in the world should we do? Maybe Coop has some ideas!! It does sound like Big Frank is hanging out with the guys now. That can only help.
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) Jim Thome clogs up the basepaths. Having the base paths clogged up would be a good problem to have at this point.
  8. Jim Thome has 6 hits in 18 at bats against lefty's. Dunn 0 for 32 after yesterday's pinch hit K.
  9. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 23, 2011 -> 11:48 AM) I've been a big fan of #10 from day one, enjoying the excitement and unpredictability he's brought to the team. Looking at his hitting career in a nutshell: *In '08 he was very free swinging and impatient, walking only 18 times, but he was dangerous, 475 slugging, 792 OPS, 77 RBI *In '09, batting primarily 2nd , he exhibited more patience, walking 49 times, but it was at the expense of much of his power as his slugging and OPS dropped to 386 and 723 respectively *In 2010, he slugged better, 431, 744 OPS, but at was at the expense of "patience" as he walked only 27 times. This year, so far, and it's just now getting warm, he seems to be putting it all together. He's on pace for about 60 walks AND he's dangerous at the dish, 458SLG, 811OPS. I think he's capable of an 850 OPS this year, pretty b****in for a SS, and affirming that his new contract is still quite the bargain. I hope Ozzie isn't completely set on moving Lexi down in the order (again giving more AB's to a likely lesser hitter) and keeps Lexi in the two hole, maybe even considering him as a leadoff. He's exhibited more patience near the top of the order, and I'd like to see that trend continue. Lexi can't steal bases (neither can Juan anymore), but he CAN go 1st to third and score from 1st on doubles, of which the guys behind him (hopefully Beckham soon) should hit plenty. I'd like KW to broker this compromise to Ozzie with a TomHagenesque, offer you can't refuse, kind of vibe, with JR sitting silently in the background, in the shadows, Ozzie knowing that pleading would only insult the old man. My dream lineup for the 2nd half, or sooner: Lexi GB CQ, RF or LF PK AD Cuban TANK, RF or LF Rios AJP Morel or Omar That's a lineup that could be scary for opponents if we can get Dunn and GB right, and MAYBE they're showing signs of turning the corner. AJ has been a pleasant surprise with the bat lately, so maybe swithch he and Rios above and Rios becomes the "2nd leadoff hitter" in the 8 hole, so Ozzie can have his fast guys bunched together, as he seems to like. Look for Lexi and Dayan on next year's Baseball Preview Issues from SI and Sporting News. The Cuban Connection. Love it. Give that Line-up 1 week & we are rolling!!! Plus you throw in Lillibridge 2 or 3 times a week.
  10. Sure helped last year. We had a sick run mid-summer & Omar helped with that.
  11. It's too late now, but Getz at 2B would be nice & Beckham at 3B. Beckham played a good 3B. Wouldn't want to change now, but Getz, Pierre, & occasionally Lillibridge in the line-up together is a bunch of speed. With Getz batting on the top of the order we have room for a power hitter like Viciedo. Sure 3B is supposed to be a power hitting position, but we haven't had power there since Crede so Beckham would have been good for years at 3B. Yes, Getz got hurt once a year, but between Omar & Lillibridge we have depth. Getting back to right now, I don't see the Sox bringing up "The Tank" unless somebody gets injured.
  12. They need to get Big Frank in that clubhouse & on the field. He can help the batters. He was around last year for awhile & he seemed to help out. Walker is not all bad, he is however left handed, & a big fan of the Walt Hriniak style of hitting. Not bad, but adding another set of eyes to help with analyzing the different swings & someone with other philosophies on hitting could help out a lot.
  13. Three things last night that rubbed me the wrong way: 3. Beckham swinging at the first pitch & hitting into a double play. 2. Adam Dunn giving a bat to a fan or friend during the 4or5 th inning last night. 1. Matt Thorton & walking out of the Dugout after Beckham made a great hustle play. Beckham, Alexei , Carlos, & Paulie ran to the dugout & he didn't give him or any other of the guys as much as a high five, knuckles, the finger, nothing. He just acted like he was too cool & didn't want to be RAH, RAH or something like that. The play should of merit some acknowledgement by Thorton. That attitude is what is missing. When the Twinkies make plays, they hustle off the field & high five each other. As we know they don't have much to be excited about this season, but at least they seem to care about the team. Jessie Crain walked out after Thorton, but he gave some five's to the guys. After sitting on the Dugout for the game last night one thing occurred to me, this team is full of individuals whose focus is on trying to look cool & collect a check. I realize the none written code of basebal, & that pitchers & fielders have their clicks, but get real. Act like a team!! Ozzie should make them wear white sox shirts & sweatshirts off the field, so they can stop acting like they are too cool to represent the team off & on the field!! Bottom line, these guys look out of touch from where they are record-wise.
  14. Ozzie is Michael Scott & AJ is Dwight Shrute. Everybody likes Ozzie but sometimes tune him out. AJ has been there but has little influence, he should be co-captains. Right now he is assistant to the assistant Captain.
  15. Totally disagree. At this time two weeks from now things will turn around. Honestly the team is way to good to continue this way. Sure the closer role is in limbo, but we have a good team. Does anybody remember last years hot streak after Teahen got hurt? How about this year with the Red Sox & Rays hurting early this year. They bounced back, why can't we?

  17. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 2, 2011 -> 05:10 AM) There is an old saying that has to do with soccer that goes: you don't change a winning team. Leave the lineup as it is, as long as it's succesfull, also tranlsaltes to, if it ain't broke, dont fix it. Agreed!! Keep it the same. This lineup has good balance. Remember Joe Crede batting 8th for us in 2005, that is the balance I'm talking about
  18. QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) What a bunch of idiots on that list: My theory is that 1 out of 10 people are not so nice. I think Red Sox fan's break that theory. I feel bad for Bobby. As for that son of sam horn Red Sox website, it's cruel & brutal. All they do is make fun of Bobby & compare him to Bartolo Colon, Brad Penny, Davud Wells & anyone shaped pudgy. Sure he had a bad year last year, but he can still throw a 100mph when he wants to. Two thoughts: Typical Red Sox fans & 2005 must still sting!!!!
  19. Maybe Crede will become the Grant Hill of baseball... If not, I'm guessing Omar will play about a 90 games at third this year.
  20. He never played for Cleveland during the 90's!!
  21. Great Idea!! For sure way to compete in the future & help people.
  22. DH only. Maybe Leftfield for 1 or 2 games a month. If you hear Big Frank talk about getting used to DH-ing, he says it takes awhile to adjust too not playing in the field. I think Manny can be a very good DH after he gets used to it!!!
  23. I wish we would go with the red trip, like the 59 sox uniforms. Those are my fav!!
  24. Anyone read what Morneau said about the new Target Field. Coming to our ballpark is a relief to him, Kubel, Mauer, & now Thome. Any thoughts!! Especially with the good pitching staff that we have on the Southside. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5796135
