  1. Rotating DH- After watching Pods rotate around from CF/LF & DH, I think Kenny Williams wants to try that with Pierre (better bunter) for a whole year. It should make us less vulnerable during interleague play also. Also, Andruw Jones will be in LF for Pierre in the end of games (ala Brian Anderson for Swish, Mackoviack, Griffey etc) Plus Paulie can get some rest, Carlos, & AJ can play some DH too (providing we get a decent back up catcher).
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) I think Joe Crede would be a great pick up, but then that's just me I agree, Crede as DH would be good.
  3. I think the lineup will consist of Andruw Jones Rotating with Carlos & Juan Pierre at DH. Kotsay will play 1b & let Paulie play DH some. Kotsay can still play right field & left field. I doubt that the sox will put him in center. Kotsay will play some right field against a tough righties & Carlos will DH. It is my opinion, that this year will be a rotating DH for 4 reasons: 1. Keep Carlos Fresh 2. See if Paulie can be the DH for the future 3. Try to keep Juan Pierre's arm out of the equation. (Andruw Jones will be in LF & the end of alot of games this year) 4. Interleague play-more Pinch hitters that can sub in at a position. Plus a loss of a 7 or 8 hitter doesn't hurt as much in national league ball parks. My projected Line-up: 1 Pierre- LF 2 Rios-CF 3 Bacon- 2B 4 Carlos-RF 5 AjP- C 6 Paulie 1B 7 Jones/Kotsay- DH 8 Teahen- 3B 9 Ramirez- SS * If Rios hits well, he could bat 3rd, TCQ 4th, Pierre 1st, Bacon 2nd, AJP 5th, Paulie 6th & so on. If doesn't hit, Ozzie will have him batting 8 or 9th. Not everyday Lineup, but a line up against tough righties: 1 Pierre-LF (Lefty) 2 Bacon-2B 3Aj-c (Lefty) 4Carlos- DH 5 Kotsay RF (Lefty) 6 Rios-CF 7 Visquel-3B (Lefty-switch) 8 Ramirez-SS 9 Teahen-1B (Lefty)
  4. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Dark horse guy to acquire: Jose Reyes. KW has always liked him. Put him at SS,move Alexi to 2B,Beckham goes back to 3rd and Teahan to RF. The Mets need pitching badly.Offer up Hudson plus. That would work for me.
  5. Nope, nope, and nope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bobby, other than last year has been one of are most consistent players (2008 would have been even bigger w/TCQ healthy. Think of our 2008 team plus Rios, Jake Peavy, healthy Freddy(minus Javy Vaszquez), go sign Pods , use a revolving dh for a whole season. Keep the Bullpen how it is now!!! .... Sox in 2010!!!!
  6. I heard the Parker brothers want to come to Chicago also. It's best to keep the Coco Crisp's, Milton Bradley's & other weirdo name players out of the city. I believe we are going with a revolving LF(pods, kotsay, Matsuai), & that is better then a revolving CF(mackowiak, Anderson,Erstad, D-wise, Swish,etc...).
  7. No way will KW get rid of TCQ. Not with the $$$ Crawford is making.
  8. Now we can sign Pods to lead-off & play DH for 55-60 games LF 90-100 games & Andruw Jones in LF for about 50 games, CF & RF maybe 10 games, and then DH the rest. This can keep the Pods & the other guys fresh. With Kotsay, we got the outfield covered bench wise. I believe Pods, if we sign him will rotate DH with Paulie, AJ, CQ, Kotsay, & now Andruw Jones. We still need to have a leadoff guy!!!
  9. He is a big left handed batter, is younger then Thome, he might be able to play outfield some games, & maybe he can get Ichiro to come here to leadoff. Not sure about the last one & how much money it will take. For Cheap, Matsui could bring more balance to the lineup. If Matsui is going to be alot of money I would rather have Pods play DH, LF, Kotsay in Leftfield, rotate with DH with Paulie(Kotsay at 1B) , AJP on off days (more off days behind the plate), Quentin (to Keep him fresh). Doing this might help ease Paulie in to being a full-time DH in the Future. My biggest concern in Lead-off hitter & then having a big lefty bat.
  10. QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Nov 20, 2009 -> 04:17 AM) I think Tony Pena will be very good in 2010. In the long run we will all like that trade . I agree, Tony Pena will be good in 2010. A whole spring training with the sox, working with cooper, & a new season to start over. He just has a few things to get him where he needs to be & we could have another nasty reliever to go with Big Bad Bobby & Thorton.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 19, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) That makes me feel like we can forget about an Adrian Gonzalez/Carl Crawford/Nick Johnson/Adam Dunn pipe dream. Now I know we can make some trades, but wouldn't we have to replace the people we trade with free agents? I got a feeling our line up looks something like this in 2010: Pods Beckham Quentin Konerko Thome AJP Alexei Teahen Rios With Kotsay as a sub for 1st Base & outfield, we will lose the log jam with only 2 slow guys on the bases. The line-up I don't think will work, you should probaly seperate Paulie & Thome. Ozzie also said Rios will move up in the lineup next year. I guessing the line-up will look more like this. Pods Beckham Quentin Konerko AJP Rios Thome Alexei Teahen
  12. Pudge is out, he is a Boras guy. Kendall would be alright.
  13. I like the Teahen addition, but I'm a little worried about losing Getz's speed & if Pods doesn't come back we lose a lot of stolen bases-on top of speed(scoring with runners on).
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) Pierre is a dumb ball player. Too many mental mistakes. Plus Scotty Pods arm is like Jesse Barfield's compared to Juan Pierre. 5 Million for Juan Pierre would be way to much.
  15. How about Giambi- ya he had a ruff year, but he also didn't have Jeter, A-Rod, Johny Damon, & Bobby Abreu hitting in the same lineup as him. I think he has 1 or 2 good years left in him. He has a high on base %, and ya he is not lighting quick, but he would be a good power bat that you could actually throw out at first base. If, and only if we could get him cheaply, he could be a decent DH for our club. I'm not saying he is fast, but he is faster than Thome, Dye, Paulie, & probaly AJ. Giambi hitting between Carlos & Paulie with AJ batting 6th- it could be a pretty good lineup. I'm not saying he'll hitting 40 hrs, but he did hit 32hrs in 2008. Otherwise were stuck with a platoon situation, which could be helpful to Josh Fields development. With a platoon situation I like Kotsay playing first base, with Paulie DHing(playing first base occasionally). Fields at 1B/DH against Lefties & Paulie DH/1B. If we keep Kotsay, & let paulie DH will have more speed with Kotsay then we would with Giambi (Plus Kotsay can play outfield). Any thoughts?
  16. QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) I think Pods will get 2 years for 6mil ($3mil each season ,with $1mil incentives), w/ an option third year($4 mill, $500,000 buyout). I think we all could live with that. " If he wants to work for what his entire piece of work his career would net him, which would be less than $2 million on a one year contract perhaps with some incentives, then fine, sign him up." You say you can live with $2 million (w/ incentives), I say $3million (w/incentives) & I'm insane. $1 million with the way our manager likes to play, is a small cookie when your looking for a legit & proven lead-off hitter. Maybe the years,(3rd year option is too much but $3 million for a proven leadoff hitter is a good price.

  18. I bet the sox go after Matsuai, just a gut feeling. I think we can get him cheap & he can play some outfield. Other wise, I think were getting Thome back at a reduced salary. Making less than 5 mil & playing 3/4 of the year it would be nice to have his bat back. I think Matsuai would be a good edition
  19. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Sep 30, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) how much is parking at solider field or the united center? I went to the Bears Pre-Season game against the Browns. We had a parking pass. If you didn't,wait for it the Price was $70. They might as well made it $100
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Just by coincidence, I've had the bad luck of seeing some of Floyd's bad outings. Seems whenever I catch a game Danks pitches he's been outstanding. I know Floyd's good. I guess I've just seen Danks with my own eyes more. Hopefully next year I'll have mlb.com all season. Floyd has nasty stuff! Danks too! Floyd would have won more games this year if it hadn't been for poor run support & spotty relieving. Danks had a lot of run support problems last year, otherwise he would have won more games last year. If our team plays more consistent next year, both of these guys can win 18-20 games. Plus Peavy, Buehrle, & Freddy, we could really clean up next year!!
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) Are you suggesting steroids Next time you go to a game in person, look at how similar builds Alex & Alexei have. Plus, two long swings.
  22. A-Rod pays a shrink to help him w/ his hitting from a metal side and a personal trainer to get his body ready. My point is that a guy who makes that much money (alex rios, a-rod, jeter, etc) should have a good sports shrink & a good personal trainer. Being a baseball player is very hard and it has pressure that normal humans cannot take. He has great ability but now he should take some resposibility for that abilit & potential. Two things: 1. Bulk up-I have seen Rios actually connect on several well hit balls since he has joined the sox, but the ball just doesn't seem to carry. I think he needs to bulk up properly-with a trainer. 2. Head Doctor- Maybe, get 1 or 2 sports Psychologists to work on his mental approach to the game. It is not an easy game for average minded players
  23. I like this lineup: 1. Pods CF 2. Bacon 3B 3. Ramirez SS 4. Quentin LF 5. PK 1B 6. AJ C 7. Dye DH 8. Getz 2B 9. Rios RF
  24. Rios is having a problem at the plate & him dropping that ball last night may help him. Sometimes when you completely bottom out, you only have one direction to move in.(hopefully up). I went to the game last night & sat really close to the sox dugout. Rios seems to be off in a different world. I believe he is very frustrated, but he may think to much of himself to try to help himself. He strikes me as a guy who doesn't like to ask for help until its to late. At this point in our season he is a base-stealing version of Brian Anderson. These areas in his swing might help him salvage his year: FEET He needs to change his approach. He has his lead (front) foot up in some attempt to get loft on the ball. Then he spreads and bends his legs, which is fine(you start your swing through your legs). With the squatting motion the height seems to change up on him. I would even suggest that he open up little bit & he might pull more. He would surely not swing through hittable inside pitches . SHOULDERS & ARMS Also he puts his shoulders somewhat back to not jam himself. However, his torso leans toward the plate & he ends up not able to get around with that long swing. At this point the only pitch he can hit good is high outside pitches. The sweet spot of the bat is only on the outside part of the plate. That & he like to swing at low pitches to often. HANDS Rios has like 2 or 3 hitches he has going with his hands. He should rest his hands ready for his swing like Crede used to do. However, he gets ready, then he brings his hands down to rest & relax his hands, then he puts it in his natural load spot. He should put his hands in his spot for hitting and just let the barrel rest on his back right shoulder&arm. Also I would suggest that he watch Chase Utley hit in a mirror so he can see how to simplify his swing. In general his swing, if he tilted his body back (ala manny ramirez) he would be able to connect a lot more.
