QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 05:45 PM) Half this board was so convinced Paulino was going to be great Not me. One of our Admins sure thought so.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 03:07 AM) Welp. Didn't want the player, but can't be mad at the price. We gave up nothing of significance, and no one interesting that I would have wanted to see pan out. Seeing the price, I'm ok with this. Only makes us slightly better, but at least it was at no real cost at all. I wouldn't go that far. Zach Erwin had a solid year in 2015. I know, he was a bit old for the rookie league (21), but he pitched very well there and at Kanny. That's all you can ask for a guy drafted last June. He was probably ticketed for W-S in 2016, and if he did well there, he would have been on the Top 30 list. I would be interested in Northsider's opinion.

White Sox acquire Brett Lawrie
QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:55 PM) I need one of you negative miserable posters to tell me how this is a bad move. One! Please! So I can laugh at you and talk about you to my entire family as you personally being a representative for all negative moronic Soc fans that are impossible to please. Not me.

Who would you trade Anderson for?
Please don't trade Tim Anderson. He's just a year away, maybe less. Don't sweat his 25 errors as short last season. He'll get better. Aparicio made errors in the minors, too. He can hit. He can run. He'll be an exciting player for many years. Naturally, everyone else wants him.

2016 MLB Draft
But you're not going to start a thread on the 2017 draft, are you?

David Price $217mm/7 years
Bosox gave up, what, a second round pick?
-
David Price $217mm/7 years
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) Why would Price opt out after 3 years? It's highly unlikely that he'd get a higher AAV than this new deal after those 3 years when he's 33 and most likely on the decline. But then again, these contracts teams are handing out are crazy so he probably will get more next time around. Because GM's often make stupid moves. Not their money they're spending.

David Price $217mm/7 years
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 01:06 AM) You harp on endlessly about "hero worship" yet think Price is worth that contract? No. Way overpaid, not good for baseball. I think.

Abreu got married (?)
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) Nah. It's classic Chris Rock man. Men need 3 things: Food, Sex, Silence. That's about it. And, Strange Sex. That's the way I heard it. Funnier when Chris Rock does it.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
"Can't get big league hitters out" is an expression, Wite, not a literal statement. I thought with your Adminhood you would know the difference. I wasn't talking about his performance in 2013-14. Last season, he had a lot of trouble getting anyone out, especially after his first 30 days after being called up. He pitched 30 innings last season, so with your powers of deduction, he recorded 90 outs. He gave up 46 hits and 23 walks/HBP. And he was getting worse as the season progressed. Figure it out. He couldn't get MANY/ENOUGH hitters out, okay?

Rule 5 Draft
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 10:54 PM) Wouldn't starting on the DL be less of a risk, since it makes the player much easier to hide? Can a team draft a Rule 5 guy and immediately put him on the 60 day DL?

White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) There's some talented players on this team that you just cant afford to waist any time with. If you do then trade them. Trade Abreu,Sale,Q and whoever else. In my opinion if you cant build a team with those guys to atleast be competitive on a regular basis that just shows the incompetence of that front office. Plus if that was the plan Robin should have quit. Standing pat would only be more fuel to the fire. Baron, I don't believe the FO can build a competitive, contending team for 2016-2017 around those players you mentioned. Not sure anyone can. Too may holes. But with one shrewd trade they can be ready to contend in 2017, assuming our 2 primo prospects are indeed ready to contribute in 2017, and the high level prospects received in the trade are ready to some extent in 2017. As I stated, IMO the reality is that 2016 will be another bad year, but it can get a lot better after that, unless FO makes more bad moves ala one year ago. Abreu and Sale will still be very good in 2017.

White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) I think that's almost certainly the case. Out of all the options adding and continuing to build makes the most sense. Standing pat made the least sense. I'm not so sure. I just think that if Sox go after and sign a big time free agent, they'll regret it, and so will we. Sox have two primo prospects that should be ready in either late 2016 or opening day, 2017. A couple other prospects should emerge next year, too. Plus, if Sox draft well again next year, it will help big time. My other thought is to trade Q for 3-4 really good (Boston) prospects, and by 2018 we will have a young, exciting team to pull for. Maybe 2017. Either way, unless some miracle occurs, 2016 figures to be a repeat of 2015, regardless of what they do. If they have money to burn, spend it some Cuban prospects.

Article on Hanley Ramirez
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Speaking of Hanley. "There’s “talk in the front office” that new Red Sox baseball chief Dave Dombrowski is trying to move Hanley Ramirez, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. Cafardo adds that the Mariners, Orioles, and Angels “seem to be the targets” of DD’s campaign to relocate the pricey veteran after he turned in a massively disappointing season in 2015. It’s not immediately clear if those three clubs have interest, however." "Of course, trading Ramirez is probably easier said than done. Just last week, five general managers told Cafardo that they wouldn’t take on Ramirez even if the Red Sox picked up the tab on half of his remaining salary. Ramirez is owed $66MM through 2018 and he has a $22MM vesting option for 2019, so even at a reduced rate, that’s still a hefty price for a player coming off such a rough season on and off the field." More here. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/red-...ey-ramirez.html Ouch. The Red Sox are all kinds of backwards on that contract and only after the first year. Ramirez and Panda Sandoval. What a pair to draw to. Another testimonial to GM's. And yet, Bosox are loaded with great prospects.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) He's still cheap, most likely had options (not positive), and there are plenty of spots on the 40 man at the moment. Why would you DFA Webb? Because he can't get big league hitters out.

Abreu got married (?)
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) I've always maintained that a man needs 2 things to be happy in life. He must be in love with his work and he must be in love with his wife. It looks like Jose Abreu has both now. Sappiest comment of the century.

White Sox still deciding on what to do
Article on Justin Upton on ESPN.com today. 5 teams in the running starting with White Sox. Closing comment was something like Sox never punt, so they will do something. Words to that effect.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions
Webb, hands down. He had a bad year, and it kept getting worse and worse. Kahnle acquisition prob sealed his fate.

Sox to go trade route possibly
QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Lawrie isn't good though. Maybe they can throw in Rangel Ravelo. Give him back.
