  1. My guess would be that it was mostly a "1950s newspapers didn't use tildes a lot" thing to begin with, then stuck. It's definitely a more recent widespread adoption as a pronunciation aid - so people pronounce his name like how he did and his family do: Min-yo-so vs. Min-oh-so.
  2. I'm guessing the implication is that KW Jr. is simply cashing them checks.
  3. How could you forget Chappy's 8 first time home runs?
  4. Maybe it's meant in a "he's untouchable because no one will try to touch him" kind of way.

    Colson heard the doubters.
  6. Dream scenario is those two are resurgent in their contract years, then get traded for pitching while Colson and Ramos tear up Charlotte. But Pedro must prioritize the wins!
  7. We're having very different outlooks on tank job. I'm saying punt 2024 and let their current prospects — the ones they already had, drafted, and traded for — work towards 2025 and 2026. Robert's age and contract line up with that. Same with Vaughn and Colas. I was fine selling Cease because he's regressed, I don't see them paying him, and it was a seller's market.
  8. For anyone not clicking the link
  9. Hawk also constantly comes across as angry and bitter and has since before he was not-fired.
  10. @South Side Hit Men out of morbid curiosity what's TA's win% and his win% with Moncada, if you still have those on hand?
  11. Quin replied to BamaDoc's topic in FutureSox Board
Curt Bloom doesn't believe in Lenyn or Colas confirmed.
  12. Mike Shirley becomes the definition of the "I'm trying jennifer" meme. But also, I understand where you're coming from.
  13. I can't remember who amongst the minor league watchers (@DirtySox, @bmags, @Autumn Dreamin, @BamaDoc?) said that they're just waiting for the Hostetler draftees to finally flush out of the system and the Shirley guys to reach the higher levels. I'm in that boat (along with Paddy's guys that are now reaching Birmingham and Charlotte). I also want to see guys like Jirschele, Farquhar, and Zaleski get that kind of talent to work with before jettisoning them. But these guys as pointed out on White Sox reddit? I'm fine launching a lot of that - especially #1 and #3 - out of a cannon.
  14. I mean, we're having articles on everything else? So can we have something positive? https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/minnie-minoso-academy-bridgeport-school-renamed/
  15. Ok so we agree on that. But I only see them doing that if they punt 2024. If they go for it — I forsee Adam Frazier at best, but more likely Elvis/Remillard unless Sosa has an OPS of 1.000+ or some s%*#. Same with some old catcher that's not Yaz and Seby. The only reason I see this is because they aren't using the time that they have right now to develop players.
  16. The fun thing is most of the "tankies" likely know this and it's why we (at least I, personally) wanted to bottom it out sans Robert and just let the young guys get their development in now and do the FA spending this offseason. But Pedro is doing his weird "we must compete with the old guys" dance, so here we are. Edit: In the absolute miserable situation that the Sox are a league-worst team again next year, it's only for the first round and I think Shirley has hit on Crochet (ruined to this point by Hahn, player dev and coaching), Montgomery and Schultz, while reserving judgement on a freshly drafted Gonzalez. Those were all outside the top 10.

    Unfortunately, no.
  18. Getting away from the Sox does wonders for your development as a hitter. Probably complexion and self-esteem too.
  19. He's on the Nationals. But everyone that wants to try and let the next batch of prospects succeed pretty vocally wants coaches and staff that can actually develop them, not Pedro, who seems philosophically aligned with you.
  20. For real. f*** this noise of wasting prime years of Luis Robert, but... Option A: Try and see if young bats like Sosa, Colas, Ramos, Montgomery, Vaughn (yes, him included), Lee, Quero, Rodriguez, f*** it throw Elko in there, can develop at AAA/MLB next year. Let Santos sink or swim as a closer, try to salvage what you can from Crochet, Touki and Schlotens get more shots to become back end/depth guys, and Patino/Honeywell/Ramsey/Cronin/Lambert/Leasure get auditions. Nastrini, Eder, Burke and Bush get to work at AA and AAA and maybe get a cup of coffee. Sign free agents to fill in the gaps in 2025. Option B: Sign B, C and D tier free agents similar to Clevinger and Benintendi. Go for it.
  21. Cause trading Colson Montgomery for someone like Zach Eflin sounds like a quick way to repeat another decade of Tatis posts. Or Quero for Jordan Romano. Would you have rathered the Sox have kept Tatis, Semien, Bassit, Escobar, Narvaez, Thompson, Montas, and Reed (forgot him) or slog through the end of the retool era? Cause those guys could have surrounded the Sale, Q, Eaton, Abreu core (minus Tatis, he'd come later, with TA).
  22. 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 were all horrendous. The bolded in particular were particularly unwatchable laughingstocks. At least 2017, 2018 and 2019 had young guys to follow. Then 2020 and 2021 were fun as s%*# until Ricky and LaRussa got embarrassed in the playoffs. And 2005 wasn't rebuilding on the fly. They started in 2004 with the Freddy and Contreras trades, building off of a strong 2000 farm system.
  23. Ok, so the first option resulted in Two first round exits Trading away Madrigal, Dunning, Heuer, Narvaez The second option resulted in Missing the playoffs as the World Series favorite Trading away Tatis, Bassitt, Semien, Escobar, Montas, and Thompson One first round exit What the s%*#?
