  1. Two theories:
  2. Carey Schueler, Ron Schueler's daughter, was picked in the 43rd rounder. Brandon Bossard's son was picked in the 31st. Reinsdorf's grandkid was taken in the 40th round.
  3. It almost makes me wish we still had the super long drafts so the 40th round vanity picks would be included.

Semi-related, but if there's one team I'd enjoy seeing Adolfo on that's not the Sox, it's Colorado.
  5. The reason for listing the offensive WAR and HR was that teams with high WAR contributions from their offense tend to make it to the World Series. 7 of the teams weren't in the Top 10 in HR, all but 2 weren't in the Top 10 in WAR. Re: the happiness factor - thank you for clarifying and yes, I concur. But I also think we have plenty of internal power that's been hit hard in aberration of a season where the Sox would really have no business being where they are. They shouldn't have the 4th best offense in baseball without Eloy, Robert, Madrigal, Grandal (himself having one of the most extreme statistical years I've ever seen), Moncada battling a hand injury, Abreu not-in MVP mode, an A-Ball-to-the-Majors 1B-turned-LF, and a rotating cast of minor league signings and Knights. Last year showed that the offense was contagious with this team - heck even the last stretch of games showed that. So reinject Eloy and Robert and see what happens, and yes, someone like Escobar. The point I'm getting at is that power isn't the end-all be-all for this club and they won't ride-or-die by with an Escobar or Gallo acquisiton.
  6. Every time a name like this comes along, I'm reminded that once upon a time the Sox had a dude named Storm Throne.
  7. HR rankings by World Series teams: 2014: KCR - 30, SFG - 17 2015: KCR - 24, NYM - 8 2016: CLE - 18, CHC - 13 2017: HOU - 2, LAD - 11 2018: BOS - 9, LAD - 2 2019: HOU - 1, WSN - 13 2020: TBR - 8, LAD - 3 Rankings by offensive fWAR: 2014: KCR - 12, SFG - 6 2015: KCR - 9, NYM - 6 2016: CLE - 6, CHC - 1 2017: HOU - 1, LAD - 2 2018: BOS - 2, LAD - 1 2019: HOU - 1, WSN - 8 2020: TBR - 13, LAD - 1 It seems that a much better indicator is the overall quality of offense instead vs. how many jacks you can hit. As for you being unhappy: Either you're happy with wins or you're not happy with wins, unless you're statement meant you're not happy with how they're winning. But you clearly stated that you're not happy with something. This season is an aberration when two of your three biggest power hitters (alongside Abreu) go down and the team keeps winning.
  8. The 2005 White Sox were 20th in offensive production, 13th in RBIs, 18th in batting average, 15th in OPS. They were 5th in home runs. They just happened to be full of magic and scored runs and the correct time all season long. The current iteration is 4th in offensive production, 4th in RBIs, 4th in batting average, 7th in OPS. They are 24th in home runs. If you add a full season of Robert and Eloy hitting missiles, we're not talking about a "pitching and power" team, we're talking about a "pitching and well rounded offense" team, but you aren't happy with winning despite suffering four massive injuries to a lineup, for some reason.
  9. If I add 32, it takes them to 124, placing them 4th, ahead of the Dodgers and behind the Twins.
  10. I want to see what a post-sticky stuff world does + the return of Eloy and Robert. Moncada's not a light-tower power dude. He's a line-drive home run guy, so of course a dead ball is going to sap his home run total, along with a hand injury. We've had a rotating cast of Charlotte Knights and minor-league signings. There are easy things to cite for a power outage and the Sox are still putting up runs.

They did fire the writer of the infamous "chink in the armor" headline about Jeremy Lin. Obviously that guy didn't make the money (or bring in the money) that Smith does, but we also live in a time of elevated awareness around racism against Asians ... and Smith was real, real blatant.
  12. Hot take: No White Sox third baseman will ever again record a song ever approaching the quality of Desastre Personal Here it is again, because it's a bop:

Man is having one of, if not the, greatest seasons of all time. Stephen A. Smith:

  15. See, I was underwhelmed by the stats page / MLB.com profile but now I'm hyped as fuck.
  16. After the first two rounds it's like everyone is drafting european basketball players. If I recognize them, I like the pick. If I don't, I'm easily convinced one way or another.
  17. The Tigers brilliant maneuvers of being in the correct market got them Ty Madden.
  18. @bmags has talked about this a lot. It was real easy to hate Hostetler's draft philosophy of safe depth picks, especially since they didn't really start coming along until recently. But now that those depth picks are supplementing a core of free agents, trade acquisitions, and international signees, Shirley's philosophy seems better moving forward to reload for the next generation.

  21. I like this draft.
