That ending is the Sox we are so use to seeing. Hard not to be pissed off about this one. Yesterday was fantasy but today was reality that the pen is one of the worst in baseball. Pens are the most inconsistent part of a team. Bad will always be bad and good will have its moments. I don't know how many dumpster dives you can try to fix that but we've also seen that had the the highest payroll be just as bad.

I don't get why fans think MLB draft is like the other sports. It's a much larger margin for error. I just hope the Sox land a franchise player in the draft someday and it's not a pitcher. They've made a lot of bad choices on their first pick and if you mess those up to where they are not in baseball it still sets a team back for a long time. I want that player who spends less time in the minors and is a 22 year old stud. Somehow Jerry would ruin that.

Bad teams are bad at that. It's rare because they are bad teams. The draft is also the roll of the dice. Odd how these great teams always seem to get better deadline deals which should be renamed salary dump time. We always think of removing a players but replacing them is the bigger issue. Look at all of the teams that gave up and they may have guys on the farm to replace them. The Sox don't. When you pull a guy from AAA, you have to replace them as well. There is also the injury factor. We are so into the science but ignore the results. Right now the dumpster dive just gained more clients. If you have a good farm you can do that stuff. Even if you have a good farm it still can't overcome bad ownership. Look at all of the studs from the A's system and yet every year they are MLB's biggest farm system. I wish MLB could create a set of rules to eliminate bad ownership but yet no sport really does this. I think their lack of trades is because there is no replacements.

only if you ignore "one of the worst pens in baseball" part. Stepping away from the trade frenzy, you still would have to replace those guys. Then the question is how? Even dumpsters get emptied once a week.
