  1. Seems as though the Sox always look better on paper and then the Twins win it anyway. The Tigers should be in this discussion as well.
  2. I see Viciedo as 4th outfielder/dh for some other team.
  3. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) we don't have a single hitter that stands out as a certainty to be successful in the 2-hole, why not put Gordon there. He couldn't possibly have a worse april and may than Alexei Yup, no one is the perfect no. 2 hitter so I guess Beckham is about the best candidate.
  4. Ozzie yes. Oney no. If they come as a package no.
  5. 1. Delmon Young 2.Alexi Ramirez 3.Sin Shoo Choo 4.Brandon Inge 5.Scott Downs
  6. If you are going to play a defensive liability at third base then it should probably be Viciedo. Teahan is a good left handed bat off the bench, and versatile enough to sub at several positions. Unless Morel turns out to be simply overmatched at the big league level he gets the nod. If not I would play Visquel there again. You need defense if you want good pitching.
  7. I agree with the previous analysis of the roster All the Sox really did to improve was sign Dunn. Crain in but Jenks out. A hole at 3rd base. This was a pretty good team last year and they have a good chance this coming year, but certainly no lock and Minnesota is a clear favorite until we prove otherwise. Seems as though we have talked the talk on this site before. Anyway the Ozzie/Kenny combo is growing old. Making Ozzie the fall guy, if we don't win it all, may not be fair, but that is the life of mlb managers. The latest incident (Jenks) with Oney cements in my mind the Guillen's are incorrigible and not to be trusted. He'll get one more shot. He will keep his mouth shut untill they are hopelessly behind then look out!
  8. Would it be nuts to put Peavy in the pen? At least when he first comes back. let him get some innings in without having to throw 100 pitches.
  9. None of the teams on that list were playoff teams last year.
  10. A guy that pitches every fifth game is more important than a guy that closes out your wins? Maybe, I gues it depends on where he can find more success. Would you rather have C.C. Sabathia or Mariano Rivera? I guess time will tell who Chris Sale is. I think with his motion he will end up in the pen.
  11. I'm hoping Sale becomes closer now and forever. If he can be good or great in that role it solves a problem for a long time to come. Imagine the numbers he could put up if started successfully closing this year and had a long career. If he can be a solid closer why try to do more with him. Isn't closer important enough?
  12. Jenks may do well the Red Sox. He would not have done well with the White Sox.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) Matt Thornton. Thats two words.
  14. Is this closer by committee? One word answer here boys. Who is our closer?
  15. So what is the concensus? Sale, bullpen or starter? Not here for a while there now and then. Is he in the bullpen or not?

    Peavy

Peavey has to prove it to White Sox fans, don't ya think?
  17. Don't give them more than 3 outs per inning, or shoot down the Twins charter plane. Probably the three outs thing.
  18. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 06:59 PM) Crain just because Jenks drove me up the wall already. Change is good sometimes. I wish Jenks the best though. He was a good guy. This sums up how I feel. Grateful for the past, but just couldn't take another year of him. Hopeful on Crain but relieved on Bobby.
  19. Is Crain better than Putz? Besides signing Dunn this team has not changed much.
  20. Its not about individual players. Its about championships. Kenny has one. Another one and he will be even smarter and craftier and any other adjective you want to use.
  21. Is coop still working on fixing Peavy?
  22. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 08:43 AM) I'm not sure we all know he ain't what he used to be. For the three seasons 2007-2009, MB put up numbers pretty much in line with his career averages, with ERA's in the mid-upper 3's, similar WHIP and other values. 2010 was a bad year, just as 2006 was, but not AS bad as 2006. To me, there is every indication that 2010 was just an aberrant season. Can't say for sure of course, its POSSIBLE that 2010 was the beginning a slide down. But looking at his career and his age, I'd say that's not likely. His contract is no bargain, but as others have pointed out, he has met the value of the contract so far with his performance. So I am not sure how or why people are 100% convinced that his contract is some sort of albatross. I've watched Buehrle his whole career and numbers can lie. He is not as good as he once was. At least not consistently. It seems as though he has trouble getting the ball over 85mph. I am not saying our beloved Buehrle is worthless just don't expect teams lining up to take his cintract and give us there star players in return. Trading him for no-names would be a pr disaster and cost more in the long run than paying him.
  23. We all love Buerhle. Great career,(possible hof?),world series..............but we all know he ain't what he used to be. So does everyone else. Who will give us anyting but garbage for him and his contract. Trade Buerhle for garbage and ticket sales and over all revenue will go down more than his $14 Mill. Make him the number 4 or 5 starter or maybe a bullpen guy if he falters early, but keep him for a another run at it.
