  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 08:19 AM) The phrase "Harry Defected" implies that Harry Carey made the decision to leave for the north side despite the Sox wanting him back. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that, much like John Rooney, the Sox actually let him walk. After the free wheeling days of Veeck The new owners wanted a tamer Carey. While negotiations were going on the Cubs ( not known for the freedom they give their broadcasters ) made him an offer he jumped on. He knew the feelings in the city about the rivalry but also knew due to super station status of WGN he could get more exposure , and go back to his National League roots ( St. Louis ). He went from face of the White Sox to number one Cubbie. He is no hero to me.
  2. There was never a more entertaining broadcast team than Harry and Jimmy piersall. However Harry defected and worse he commited treason when he went to the northside. He turned into a buffoon as the years went by and the assosciation is overwhelmingly Cubs. As for the statue? The Cubs deface the whole city just by their existence so paint away boys. They deserve no respect especially the traitor Carey.
  3. A cub fan did it to make us sox fans look like trash. We all know how jealous they are of us. A real ballpark and a world series trophy who could blame them? Besides any defacing of anything Cub can't be all bad.
  4. They could finish anywhere from 2nd to last depending on the other teams. Toronto? Tampa- falling off? New York-geriactic ward They must improve the pitching to be taken seriously as a play off contender. Now that they got Vlad maybe the Sox could get luke Scott!
  5. Publicly insulting any umpire is never a good idea. They stick together.
  6. At this point in time he has to realize he is just another piece of junk on the MLB scrap heap.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 2, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) He is going to want a spot in the rotation all year. He won't get that here. He should in Cleveland. He will want to be a starter. Presented with the list of pitching free agents I think he is the best. He may get a good chance to start with the Sox as we don't know Peavey's situation and he could just plain be better than Floyd. Although I do have reservations about picking up veterans off the scrap heap. Besides if there is anyting not right with him can't Coop fix him?
  8. Listened to the whole thing................. It was painfull.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:49 PM) Still close to Chi-town...Kotsa will be traded to us at the break for Dunn. If Ozzie wants him bad enough Kenny will throw in Sale and Viciedo too
  10. I have spent significant time in S.F. Bay area the last few winters. I see many White Sox hats and logos. I think the look attracts people in general including gang members, and rap fans, but most wearing the Sox stuff are not necessarilly White Sox or even MLB fans. Also Raider fans seem to gravitate toward the White Sox. Maybe the Sox should try to cultivate the bad boy image.
  11. Thought he would sign with the Twins or Tigers and come back and kill us 18 times a year.
  12. Watching him last year the eye test told me he was washed up by the end. His velocity got pathetic and a good hitter would wait for him to lay it in there. He is not a bullpen type so let the Yankees build an over the hill junk pile.
  13. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 07:41 AM) Threw a 6 inning no-hitter. Danny Darwin Got him off the scrap heap had nothin' left Walt (no neck) Williams
  14. Too much talk about the National franchise from Chicago.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 06:42 AM) #1 overall pick - mediocre player Tim Belcher Mid season trade did not do much for ud. Currently pitching coach for ....Cleveland? Jorge Orta
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Great pitcher for the Sox in the early 90s who fizzled out very quickly Bill Simas Pitched some good innings out of the bullpen Jerry Dybzinski
  17. Yeah both Beurhle and Thomas could be HOf. Thomas a lock. Wood will be forgotten and Sosa is a joke. Who would'a thunk it?
  18. Seems as though the Sox always look better on paper and then the Twins win it anyway. The Tigers should be in this discussion as well.
  19. I see Viciedo as 4th outfielder/dh for some other team.
  20. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) we don't have a single hitter that stands out as a certainty to be successful in the 2-hole, why not put Gordon there. He couldn't possibly have a worse april and may than Alexei Yup, no one is the perfect no. 2 hitter so I guess Beckham is about the best candidate.
  21. Ozzie yes. Oney no. If they come as a package no.
  22. 1. Delmon Young 2.Alexi Ramirez 3.Sin Shoo Choo 4.Brandon Inge 5.Scott Downs
  23. If you are going to play a defensive liability at third base then it should probably be Viciedo. Teahan is a good left handed bat off the bench, and versatile enough to sub at several positions. Unless Morel turns out to be simply overmatched at the big league level he gets the nod. If not I would play Visquel there again. You need defense if you want good pitching.
  24. I agree with the previous analysis of the roster All the Sox really did to improve was sign Dunn. Crain in but Jenks out. A hole at 3rd base. This was a pretty good team last year and they have a good chance this coming year, but certainly no lock and Minnesota is a clear favorite until we prove otherwise. Seems as though we have talked the talk on this site before. Anyway the Ozzie/Kenny combo is growing old. Making Ozzie the fall guy, if we don't win it all, may not be fair, but that is the life of mlb managers. The latest incident (Jenks) with Oney cements in my mind the Guillen's are incorrigible and not to be trusted. He'll get one more shot. He will keep his mouth shut untill they are hopelessly behind then look out!
