  1. QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 10:36 PM) There is literally nothing encouraging about his career so far. If he moves off short he'll probably be out of baseball shortly. A little soon to be calling a 20 yr. old a bust, don't you think?
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 09:23 PM) I really could see this deal expanding to include a reliver I think the same. I would totally include another piece if it meant a better return.
  3. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 07:54 PM) This team will never sign a Harper, Trout, or Machado. I actually hope they don't as long as current ownership is in place because that will leave the team with their hands tied due to payroll constraints for a decade. I don't necessarily think we can say that anymore with 100% certainty. We all thought they'd never go over-slot and get Robert and look how that turned out.
  4. When the hell did the Sox bring back Rob Brantly?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Probably because Infante is most likely unavailable today, as is probably Beck and maybe Robertson, and since they are pretty much the same, it gives you another arm in the bullpen, since Ricky had a tough time with it yesterday. Probably the same guy to get sent back down for Rodon's Wednesday start too.
  6. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) I'm starting to get fairly concerned about his ability to make consistent contact. The plate discipline is solid, but as the pitchers get better in the high minors he will not be able to rely on drawing walks as much. .209 against high A pitchers does not inspire tons of confidence against AA/AAA pitching. Too soon to panic, but I absolutely think we should be questioning the hit tool. I think this is totally the right take at this point. If you want to cherry-pick though, he is actually batting .232 against RHP. It's the slash line against LHP's that brings the average all the way to the Mendoza line. Looks like the comps to Schwarber were more accurate than we all originally thought.
  7. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 06:30 PM) This is the same surgery that John Danks and Johan Santana had. If their recoveries (or lack thereof) are any indication of what is to come, the Dodgers had a guy go from top overall prospect to non prospect Brutal. Sucks to see that happen to him, but it might play into the Sox favor.
  8. Great to see Hansen get promoted. He's been nothing short of amazing so far.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 17, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Kahnle's years of team control make it very unlikely for us to receive a fair trade offer for him. I'm with you on this I would think a Kahnle return could be similar to what the Brewers got for Thornburg, but I wouldn't expect him to get moved until the offseason.
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 14, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) They'll have no problem releasing him once they feel someone has earned that spot. They have next to nothing invested in Gonzalez, let him get shelled until someone is ready to stick around up here. I agree with this. I can't see any team saying to the Sox they want Gonzalez. Guy was great last year, but trash this year. He's 33 with big warning signs as his K/9 way down from his career norm, HR/9 way up. Guy just doesn't have it and is a DFA candidate come late July if he keeps it up.
  11. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Barnum now 0-14 with 9 Ks in 3 games after being recalled. My god. Hawkins and Barnum have hit a combined .151 in Birmingham and struck out in approx. 42.8% of their plate appearances. Even as minor league filler, I don't see a point in keeping either of them in the organization.
  12. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) They're still stinging from the fan base over the Eaton trade, so I think they'll ride this out all the way to the deadline before they make another deal with the Sox. They have some cushion in the standings to do so now, but by July 31, when attention to the postseason starts to kick in, they'll be better able to justify another trade with the Sox that costs them more top prospects. We just need to hope Robertson continues to pitch well the next six, seven weeks. Totally see your point, but I think they will be more desperate to shore up that bullpen sooner rather than later (doesn't mean it will come from the Sox). Not doing something sends a bad message to the fans too. This team won't go anywhere in the playoffs with out a dependable back end to their pen.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) with a side of Fry. Don't forget about dessert - a Danish.
  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) Nice thing for Washington is they could get a Robertson+ bullpen package. Absolutely. Sox have exactly what they need.
  15. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) Draft clearly didn't go as we hoped. Burger was the safest bat left and I don't have a problem with it all. Fits the mold they started in last years draft. I have no problem taking a safe bat over a tool guy, the Sox need them.
  16. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:33 PM) I didn't realize Jones is also 31. That surprised me. He was a late bloomer.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Yep. Curious to see what the Sox do here. Could always just option Willy Garcia. Or Minaya. Or Infante. There are lots of options. Sox are carrying 13 pitchers ever since Saladino went down. Between Infante, Holmberg, and Pelfrey, the Sox have plenty of guys to DFA to make room for this kid.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) FutureSox‏ @FutureSox 52m52 minutes ago FutureSox Retweeted K-town Intimidators Missed time recently due to thyroid condition. Rehab assignment of sorts. That actually could explain why he was way worse.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) Ynoa on DL with hip flexor. Brad Goldberg up. Good for him, should have been called up at the end of last season.
  20. I totally remember Heath Phillips. Thought the Sox had another Mark Buehrle on their hands with him.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 28, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) Doesn't Sale pitch pretty poorly when he's amped up? He did for the White Sox. I wouldn't be totally shocked if the Sox are able to touch him up just for that reason, but he's been absolutely stellar this year...
  22. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) Good to know...yeah, it will be interesting to see how he will handle our pitchers. What do you think of the possibility of a September call-up? Zero.
  23. QUOTE (Scoots @ May 20, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) So, 19 year old who hit .400 in Cuba's last Series Nationale. Obviously he will be in the minors at some point this season...does anyone have any information or any educated guesses as to which league he will start in, and even though he is only 19, how far away is he from the majors? Is this even close to a Mike Trout situation where Trout hit the bigs when he was 19 years old? Or too early to tell? I know I remember some international scout saying Robert was the "best player on the planet"...just wondering how much of this hype is actually true. His potential is huge, but I wouldn't hold my breath on seeing him in the majors or thinking the Sox got the Cuban version Mike Trout. He's going to be raw, but the talent is there for him to be a impact core player for when the Sox decide to go on a playoff run.
  24. Great news! Nice job by Hahn and co. to go get Robert. Here's hoping they got a future superstar.
