  1. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) Griffey not in the lineup. I'd rather have Anderson in CF anyways. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat
  2. Let's go two days in a row. Unless Kyyle is off from work, then no one should bother.
  3. I'm just going to guess you quickly glanced at the date and thought it said September 1st. This entry is a month old.
  4. Geraldo is f***ing insane. I'm watching Fox News' coverage of the Hurricane, and he had a report from directly underneath one of the levees. There he is, while the water is crashing over. If it were to break, both him and his cameramen wouldn't have fared very well. And really, for what? A closeup view of the levee? haha.
  5. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) I'm starting to read stories about people who want to leave, and aren't being able to for fear of losing their job, or not being able to afford the trip out. (It's not about the gas, but about the fact that there isn't a lot of money being thrown at the average New Orleans employee to be able to get a hotel room for a week or so. I suppose it all depends on your job. If you're working for the New Orleans Police/Fire Department you probably don't have a choice. Get your family out, then. I'm sure there are other jobs, such as those working for power companies, who'll need to remain. Otherwise, start walking. Oh, and I know I know; I can't possibly know what it's like to be some of these people. Well, what I do know is if I had a potential Category 4 Hurricane crossing my cities path -- three years after one devastated it -- I'd find a way of leaving. Either stay and take your chances or get your asses out and worry about expenses later. People have credit cards. Even if you're poor, you still have feet. I read through several sites that buses were available to transport people out. I have to assume they'll lead somewhere, and not merely drive around aimlessly until the storm ends.
  6. I had to go back three pages to find this thread. Never again. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat
  7. It has been awhile. Lets get it going for the last several inning. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?autocom=chat
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) No it wasn't. The winds in NOLA never reached anything beyond a weak category 2. The Eye hit in Alabama as a Category 3, but New Orleans only got a glancing blow. It was also helped by the fact that an eyewall regeneration event started just as the storm was hitting shore, which weakened the storm a bit. The New Orleans levee system never faced the category 3 storm strength that it was supposed to survive. Yeah, there wasn't anything historic about Katrina's strength. It was the flash flooding that devasted New Orleans. I recall pictures of houses literally moved from their foundation. Good luck to those levees if it's anywhere near a category 4. Some of the articles I've come across are rather ominous. No Superdome this time to shelter people. The message seems to be you're on your own. I know there's nothing anyone can do (aside from National Guard patrols), but it's just strange to read. I wouldn't want to be around New Orleans after dark, whether that's because of those willing to take advantage of the storm or the storm itself.
  9. Anyone who dies in that city from this storm will not have my sympathy. You may have been unprepared for Katrina, and FEMA certaintly didn't help, but everyone in New Orleans is given plenty of warning for Gustav. Get on the damn bus this time or attempt walking to higher ground. Atleast people in Florida are accustomed to hurricanes and typically have the supplies to cope with them if they remain. Now, even those crusty old "I'm aint gonna leave my town!!!" people should learn from the death of several thousand people three years ago.
  10. There was game we'd play in junior high, several times in the summer, that was quite the thrill. We'd go to the baseball fields with a driver and a set of golf balls. Near home plate, where the area had loose mud, we'd set the tee and smack the s*** out of golfballs. It was sort of like a home run derby to see the distance and things we would hit. The ultimate prize was beyond RF, 500+ft away from homeplate -- the local pool. No one could hit the pool in one swing, though; but we're sure a few bounced in. No one was at the pool during these times, of course. What made it even more ridiculous is the Police Heights police station is literally on the same land, several blocks away. The first time we did this, even with full knowledge of the department's location, the cops chased us. There was only one access point for drivers (the pool) so we were able to react quickly and leave. This happened several more times, until one occasion (the last we did this) they come from two directions. The other direction being along the bikepath we'd usually take when leaving. We had to cut through peoples backyards on our bikes while they were chasing us on foot/vehicle. Looking back now it's funny, but I know I was scared to death when it was happening.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 05:35 PM) Within the next 100 years almost certainly, within the next 50 years more than likely, with a good chance of one happening at any time. The more I've learned about the planet the more convinced I am we're overdue for everything. Watch Mega Disasters -- every event featured within the program is accompanied with a warning of "it's not a matter of if, but when." We're due for another Tunguska sized meteor. We're due for Yellowstone erupting. We're due for some mini ice age. We're due for some virulent strain of flu. I'm sure we're due for a Gamma Ray Burst as well. The list goes on.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) She started by talking about her family, but, relevantly... She talked about her fights against over spending and quite a bit about oil. She also thanked Ferraro and Hillary for breaking ground for her, which was interesting. There wasn't a lot of substance, really, but that's expected. However, she spoke very well and with force. She's probably a better speaker than Hillary (though this was only one speech), and she comes off as honest (though we know nothing about her). For what this speech was, I thought she did a nice job. I thought so as well. She is a strong speaker who still comes off as feminine. I'm sure there are more people within the Democratic party thinking highly of her than several hours ago.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) I'm not hammering it home at all... I'm just kind of puzzled, because it really dampens the effectiveness of the "experience" card if the VP you pick is even more "inexperienced" than the one you're calling out. Again, it's obvious Republican strategists realized the inexperience card didn't matter with voters. I'm sure they didn't just forget about it nominating Palin.
  14. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) so joe biden and sarah palin roll into a uaw plant in Flint, MI... who do the workers connect with more? It may be, "well, Biden seems like an appropriate VP candidate; but I'm not voting for some black guy who sounds like a terrorist!" Just as it could easily be, "well, Palin is a woman and could go on her period in office; but McCain seems like an appropriate presidential candidate."
  15. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) However, the two don't look comfortable together at all. Honestly, Palin looked disgusted at having McCain close to her. Ha, I noticed this at the beginning. Before they walked off stage she seemed to be backing away while he was leaning in congratulating her. I would hope someone within the Republican party, such as a non verbal coach, tells them how to act more appropriately.
  16. I'm impressed with Palin. I've never heard her speak before today, and judging from her pictures I expected some soft spoken type. I don't believe she'll be "eaten alive" as much by Biden as seemingly everyone across every political blog I'm browsing through seems to believe. I could definitely envision SOME undecided women (obviously can't predict the percentages) coming over to McCain.
  17. I'll say this -- just from this moment McCain and Palin don't seem to have good chemistry. It's just odd looking at them standing next to each other. Like two people who have never met one another.
  18. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) Sarah Palin, Vice Presidential nominee, last month. I'm sure it took less than a month for someone to explain it to her.
  19. Quit with the damn thank yous. Obama did the same thing yesterday. Tell your supporters to shut the hell up.
  20. Look at McCain at his convention hall in Ohio. He's like a celebrity!! He's losing more votes playing this terrible Van Halen song than Palin could ever account for.
  21. McCain/Romne or McCain/Palin nothing changes. This is what his strategists are thinking, obviously. Inexperience angle obviously doesn't mean much to voters. These people know what they're doing. My second cousin worked for Clinton (I don't recall his exact title), and if you weren't aware these decisions aren't made lightly. They devote countless hours into analyzing battleground areas and their demographics, how strong the support for Hillary was within these areas, and whether undecided voters may change their vote on the basis of Palin's VP nomination. I still have a belief McCain is going to win, though. I was utterly shocked to hear a few days ago how close the overall numbers were. Even with the overnight shift with Obama now taking the lead, if you listen to the media and their love affair with Obama you'd believe the separation would be greater.
  22. Thank you. Thank you very much.
  23. Every relief pitcher who disappoints is forever known as Jizzcan to me.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) We need a Soxtalk Thread Hall of Fame. What's unfortuante is those threads which were really objectionable (and would qualify as being hall of fame material) were deleted. Oh man, that reminds me of Beastly's old threads when he was Wsc245. "Showering while in high school" or his "what do people prefer sexually threads." Those were f***ing awesome. HAHA, here are some old threads. It's like a treasure of long forgotten soxtalk members. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...=9306&st=25 (note the argument on page 2 concerning nazi's with cwso and cerb. That epitomizes early Soxtalk) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11150 (LONG read. Cwsox, an old member, was temporarily banned because of two incidents -- attacks within the infamous "are you gay thread; and alleged comments made towards Aboz). Even those these may be objectionable to post, everyone should know this site's history. It's the time on Soxtalk I refer to as the Dark Ages.

Haha, Ncorg. Remember when JimH researched his claims of being on the board of directors? Another classic thread.
