6/21 Game Thread Sox @ Cubs
Let's see what this team is made of these last several innings. I don't give a s*** about Marmol, they better not wet themselves. Don't put down three outs in three pitches.

Are you kidding me, Dye? We'd be as lucky to have any ball hit directly to one of our pitches for a tailor made DP this entire series, and of course, they find one with our hottest hitter up.

EMBARRASSING. This is really terrible to watch.

White Sox Loser
What I would have done if were Guillen is AT LEAST leave Danks in until a runner reaches. Leading 3-1 in the 7th, with 85 pitches, we could have afforded to have him bat for himself; and if a Cubs player reached at the bottom of the inning signal for the bullpen. He wasn't laboring. Just win the next two games and this game will be forgotten.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) Parents and/or coaches get waaaaaaaaay too involved in those games. Its like they are trying to live out their own little dreams that were dashed decades ago. I've vowed never to become one of those parents whenever I have children. Everyone has their own experiences, and it's the same issue generation after generation. Outside the games themselves these parents are just as bad. Just last month during a Chicago Fire game I'm stationed as security on the field while young children are playing soccer at halftime. This one parent comes up to me and claims someone working for marketing, for some reason, said he has exclusive access near the field (without proper credentials) to film his daughter play. After I politely tell him that without credentials I can't let him past, he proceeds to argue with me. For nearly the entire team his daughter is playing. At one point, he even takes his camera out and starts filming me while he's talking. It was really an uncomfortable moment. I flat out told him if he doesn't put down the camera I'm going to call my supervisors I'm a very patient person, but I cannot stand persistent people at my job -- whether it's fans or parents -- who thnk rules don't apply to thm. They don't respond to logic, or reason. These parents are exactly why their kids are embarrassed of them later in life.

Is Iowa dead yet? It feels like this damn thread has been around for five years.

Dana Carvey's new comedy special
I should probably watch the entire show before commenting on it, but from the limited amount I watched last week it wasn't funny. His bit on Andy Rooney seemed to drag on for half a damn hour.

Soxtalk's Biggest Loser Non Member Thread
Haha, I've completely forgotten about this this. Reddy, from personal experience, it's impossible to gain weight correctly. That is, avoid unhealthy foods; concentrate entirely on high protein items such as chicken. Too expensive for a college student to keep up with. Especially if you're like me, and need to compensate for a high metabolism. It was probably two months after my February post where I just thought, what the f***, and decided to continue working out -- but eat whatever I want to. And in large quantities. I had probably gained two/three pounds trying to gain weight the right way; how nutrionists suggest. I haven't eaten entirely junk food (still try to have some semblance of healthiness), but the results are more noticeable. Still gain muscle, but fat as well. Right now I'm about 175. Even now, five pounds below my goal, I still look fairly skinny. I'm thinking of 190 now.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 10:33 PM) You're crazy. Outside of the last 20 minutes or so, that movie was great. He was reaching Cool Hand Luke status in my book until the ending... There Will Be Blood was outstanding. I know their rating system isn't scientific, but IMDB actually lists TWBB higher than No Country for Old Men -- the best picture of last year. I've been waiting for someone to say they've abandoned something just so I can yell "I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!!!!!!! I'VE ABANDONED MY CHILD!!! I'VE ABANDONED MY BOY!!!"

What has Snell shown Hawk, exactly? That he can still pitch after giving up 5 runs? He hasn't shown me anything except the inordinate amount of foul balls that have shot straight backwards. They're just missing off this scrub.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 07:48 PM) Seriously, is Hawk making any sense right now about this plan B s***? I am trying to follow, but am just lost. HAHA, I was thinking the same thing. He's needlessly complicating a simple concept-- when you don't have your best stuff, you'll have to change your approach. I believe he knew it was bulls***, but since his "friend" called him out on it he took the commercial break to come up with something. No one will call him out on it anyway. DJ was just silent, trying to add to the discussion but couldn't do anything.

I see we've been acquainted with an old friend this evening, Habe Bawskez -- the Middle Eastern Gas Station attendant. Good at accounting and inventory, bad at pitching.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) The Jason Michaels love shown by Hawk tonight is going to be nauseating. Sort of like how, after Michaels was traded from Cleveland, the games lost afterwards were attributed to him not being in the lineup; or the clubhouse as a veteran presence.

Don't embarrass yourselves, White Sox. Oh, and just to put it out there, if we win the first two and are leading the final game of the series -- but someone blows it late -- I'm not going to say "if anyone told me before the series we'd take 2/3 I'd be happy." I hear that too often around here and it drives me crazy. If we're close to winning the third game, against the f***ing Pirates, finish the damn job! Atleast there will be no excuses if we don't dominate, such as there was for Colorado or Detroit.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 14, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) I just thought that I'd save you from wasting your money and seeing The Happening. It's outlandish, sure, but I like the idea because it's one of those movies where there's no simple solution to the problem. Humanity is screwed. Of course, when I read scenes such as the one you referenced above it doesn't give me much hope.

Strange Wilderness was terrible. Not funny at all, aside from a few wildlife voiceovers. It was just annoying to watch the fat Jewish kid from Superbad attempt to pull off a southern accent, in addition to his co-start failing to say or do funny things. I honestly question the judgment of my friends, who claimed it was funny. They were obviously under the influence of something.

I remember when, in the past, you could always count on horror movies (esp. Friday the 13th) being shown on this day. Now there's nothing but crap, instead.

Anyone else following the screen adaption of Cormac McCarthy's "The Road?" It's the 2007 pulitzer price winning novel about a father and son traveling across America in a post apocalyptic setting. And yes, he was the author of "No Country For Old Men." Mark my words, more than five months before it's released, if most of the material from the novel is included in the film it will win best picture. There would have to be one HELL of a movie to defeat it. I'm really looking forward to it.

I really hate it when Fox Chicago shows old episodes of the Simpsons. IMO, the early years (before seasons three/four) weren't very funny.
