A loss with Dallas is the same as a loss with any other able bodied pitcher. Just cut him, already. It will have the net positive of removing him from the clubhouse, which of nothing else will at least brighten the mood of everyone

It’s only going to get worse the longer they keep him around. God forbid he lasts through the year and they need to start manipulating innings not to vest his option. It will be an unwanted distraction for the team. I’m at the point now I’d rather lose with Lambert or Banks than win with Dallas. Especially if it prolongs his career here.

We can only hope he said something to the boys on the mound, or in the dugout, that hopefully quickens his release

I don’t care if the entire starting rotation is unavailable. Under no circumstances should Dallas be allowed to reach the innings. Every opportunity to limit his total is truly a win

My god, the excuses in this thread for Dallas. That “something” is the inability to pitch an efffective game unless everything goes right.

He doesn’t fit any need for the starting rotation other than being a warm body throwing a baseball. There are other options within the organization who can fill the role, and likely without any of the locker room nonsense I’m sure Cuckel brings. He’s done. We know it, his teammate sure as hell know it. That defensive performance was the equivalent of giving up on your pitcher.

It’s not a bad move in it’s own right, we needed a defensive catcher more than whatever Collins could provide offensively.

It sure would have been easier just bringing back Rodon. I’ll never understand how they (Sox management, media) were able to convince 70%+ of Sox fans on this forum that a two year contract for potentially a cy-young calibur pitcher was a bad investment. Especially when they have done NOTHING to replace him. And now we’re left having to potentially deal one of our younger positional pieces to fill a hole they created. Wasn’t the whole point of the rebuild to supplement the cheap, cost controlled players with more elite players through FA?

I don’t know, I guess I was expecting too much for the roster to be improved. A roster that was embarrassed in the 1st round of the playoffs and had every weakness exploited for a national audience. Maybe it’ll be different this season….

White Sox roster moves that involve this line of thinking usually end in disappointment. Yet year after year we keep thinking it’ll be different.

It’s amazing when you step away from Soxtalk for awhile and when you return, it’s like everyone just collectively turned against Rodon. It’s honestly so surreal. How is the contract for the Giants terrible? At worst, he’s a two year burden. Big deal. At best, he pitches well and leaves after this season. Good, he must have pitched well to justify the exit. For a potential Cy Young pitcher, I will take a short term deal with him any day. What else are we using this money for? They apparently didn’t care enough about cutting salary with Kimbrel. If there’s some grand scheme in place, fine. Maybe I’ve missed a thread in my absence which theorizes an improvement to our starting rotation which doesn’t involve Rodon. The White Sox are geniuses at convincing their fans that someone is not worthy of the team’s money.

Do we think that’s anymore likely to happen than, say, outbidding everyone for Semien or Byrant? Also, sustained success implies a consistent run of playoff appearances. It’s a whole other issue of whether we fall flat every year in the 1st round or move forward. Honestly, I can’t even look forward that far when we just made the playoffs, in two straight seasons, for the first time in franchise history. We likely have the roster to make the playoffs again, which I’ appreciative for; but I’m worried whether they’re aiming to just win the division….and hope it’s their lucky year….or construct a team to defeat Houston and win a World Series. I think this season (and short postseason) has given us a clear picture of the improvements which need to done for the next step.

The Astros have made five straight ALCS championships; three of which have led to WS appearances. It’s not random anymore, guys. When we suggest to improve the ballclub to compete with Houston, it’s not just a reactionary response to losing. They have to be counted on as being there, in the playoffs, every season until proven otherwise. All roads to the WS go through Houston.

I remember Ozzie never retaliating against Tori Hunter after he basically destroyed Jamie Burke at the plate on the collision! We were furious on Soxtalk. Now he’s all about protecting family…. Granted that’s a long time ago, but Ive never forgotten that.

The value of Kimbrel, alone or packaged, isn’t worth the risk of being stuck with his ‘22 salary. The added payroll flexibility will of more use to the team, compared to whoever we bring over in some bad contract swap.

I’d rather they pitch McCullers against us at home.
