  1. Not sure how you come to that determination. $4.1M to Santana, and he provided significant negative value in his few starts. Jay has also provided nothing, but he was a little less $3M. Alonso is at least a major league baseball player, even though he's been pretty terrible so far. In total, the Sox are paying those three $16.1M. In they guanantted that to MM, maybe he takes it. With taxes, $266.1M over 8 may have been enough to avoid those Cali taxes at 10/$300.
  2. Nice. Insert gif of shoveling cash into fireplace.
  3. Definitely possible. Grandal + Castellanos + Cole would be pretty neat, but it'll never happen. C - Grandal, 3B - Moncada, SS - Anderson, 2B - Yolmer, 1B - Abreu (resigned cheap for 2 years), LF - Eloy, CF - Leury, RF - Castellanos, DH - Cheap Vet Eventually trade out Madrigal for Yolmer, Robert for Leury, shift Castellanos to DH / 1B when the first of Basabe/Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez are ready. Get Collins into DH/1B/ backup C mix. Eventually sport a lineup of: C - Grandal 1B / DH - Castellanos / Collins 2B: Madrigal SS: Anderson 3B: Moncada LF: Eloy CF: Robert RF: Best of Basabe/Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez Rotation: Cole, Rodon, Kopech, Cease, Gio/Lopez Plenty of options to fill out a pen. There is still a path to having a very nice (and inexpensive) ballclub by 2021, but who knows if we'll see it come to fruition.
  4. He'll be up in 4-6 weeks, which is totally fine with me.
  5. How many times a day do you think you bring this up?
  6. Jon Jay has been with the team.
  7. Some rando on twitter last night said he heard that his hand is broken and he will be out until August, but a couple FS Sox guys quoted him saying that is BS.
  8. Nova and Santana could completely turn it around and make the All Star team, and they're still not going to return anything of substance.
  9. I know we gave nothing up for Nova and we acquired him before the market had truly been set for FA SP, but my lord, we could have just signed like 15 pitchers for less money that would have been just good or better.
  10. Thankfully we may have another one of those in a couple months.
  11. Tilson isn't going anywhere. He'll be an option later this season. Let him try to stay hot down in AAA. He shouldn't be playing over any of Eloy, Garcia or Cordell right now.
  12. At least that guy has 1 above average MLB skill. Tilson likely has none.
  13. The Sox will do better than Montgomery when they trade Colome.
  14. Yah, but that could be a determining factor in another team acquiring him or not.
  15. Alonso on pace for 660 plate appearances, well in excess of the 526 required to meet the $8M vesting option. At this point, is seems like the Sox would prefer to have him next season for $9M as opposed to paying him his $1M buyout.
  16. What is the point in spending money on Gio though? We've got Rodon, Lopez, Giolito who all need their 30 starts. Nova and Santana. Banuelos if/when needed. Will need another spot for Cease in a couple months. I just don't see the need to add a veteran starter unless its literally for like $1M, or someone gets injured soon. Let the younger guys get their innings.
  17. Kirilloff and Lewis will not be in the big leagues early next year.
  18. You're right. He is not going to be "free". He is free to sign with the highest bidder, or whomever he likes. He did not sign a guaranteed contract whereby he can now only get the MLB min.
  19. Meh. The Twins window is now. They'll compete with the Sox on the front end of the Sox window, but they'll be rebuilding again well before the Sox window closes. They also are going to have a major pitching issue very soon. Berrios is a stud, and Graterol should be interesting enough, but that is really all they have. Maybe Gonsalves is an ok back end guy. Romero will be reliever. All of Odorizzi, Pineda, Gibson, and Perez will be FA this coming fall. That is 80% of their rotation. Kiriloff and Lewis are nice on the position player side, but their current core of Rosario, Buxton and Sano will be at FA or damn near by the time those guys arrive. Twins will flirt with 84-88 win range next 3 seasons or so, but I am not super duper concerned about them turning into anything fantastic or long lasting.
  20. You think there is any chance he falls to 3, Dirty? I know you follow this stuff closely.
