Lol, they definitely could trade him. They are trying to actually acquire meaningful pieces, not give him away. Teams do stupid things in free agency because they don't actually have to give away anything but money.

In today's game $20M doesn't get you much. That can get you a guy with less than half the upside of Robert for maybe60-70% of the AAV, but you may have to commit multiple years. I know Sox fans have soured on Robert - and for good reason - but $20M for him is not a bad number. If Sox (or whoever he gets traded to) buys him out (unlikely imo), I bet he'd easily surpass 5/$100M on the open market.

Right? I don't give a s%*# about Robert's $20M. I am not paying the bill. The Sox have to have a bottom 2 or 3 committed payroll in 2026 INCLUDING Robert, and they obviously will not be in on top tier FAs this offseason, so who cares? Robert at $20M is a way better bet than anyone you're going to find on the FA market.

A 40 FV prospect really doesn't do much for the Sox future. They could actually be a watchable team next year, and Robert is easily the most likely player they have or could acquire that could be a 4-5 win player. Is there some risk? Yah, sure - to JR's wallet. I don't think the risk of losing out on a back-end top 20 type prospect is really much of a gamble. Now, if they can get a legit interesting piece for him, you absolutely trade him.

Wouldn't you rather Getz ask for the moon, and settle later if no one meets the price, as opposed to just taking a garbage offer? I don't really get why any Sox fan would have a problem with the approach he is taking.

I think a few relievers should be moveable. Not for much, but may as well get guys what you can for guys like Altavilla, Wilson, Gilbert, Eisert. I could definitely see Michael Taylor being of interest to someone as a bench piece.

Finding one that can put up a 4+ WAR season is quite difficult though. Look, they should trade ROBERT if they can get something decent for him. But dumping him for a back end top 20 prospect just doesn't really do much for me. I personally would rather run it back next season than take a poor return. The payroll can certainly sustain it, and the Sox could be interesting-ish next season.

Colson has looked amazing. Absolutely love to see it. Was not at all expecting him to look this comfortable against big league pitching. Sox deserve alot of credit for fixing him with their little AZ vacation earlier this season.

Have you seen this man hit? I hadn't until a couple weeks ago. I've never been more confident in a guy not translating to be the bigs leagues than I was after watching that.

AV can hit a little bit. He did it for the Sox at times too. But he can also go in long ruts offensively and provides literally nothing else of value. I'm glad he's succeeding, honestly. Chances are extremely high he is still a negative war player moving forward.

While I agree, I think they'd prefer Lee to play everyday versus a few starts a month. I hope they trade Lee next couple days personally, out of options next season. Imagine Padres would give up something for him.

Assuming Sox are able to clear some of the vets off this roster the next few days, they should bring in recently DFA Eric Haase for no other reason than Venable being willing to play Quero and Teel together. Feel like half of Haase career homers have come against the Sox.

You can sign Houser to that deal in 4 months if you want. You absolutely take the 40 grade prospect.

How do you fit him and Vargas into lineup everyday over the next 4+ seasons? Especially with the Sox seemingly giving up on Vargas at 3B. They feel like extremely similar players.

Robert + Taylor for Crawford does not equal high level closer price, imo. But yeah, if someone wants to give us a premium position player prospect for him, sure. But as a sweetener in a Robert deal? Pass.

Trading Taylor would be silly. I don't get it.
