Sox claim RHP Yoendrys Gómez; release Greg Jones
I'd rather them shuffle the backend of the roster than not. This is one thing Getz seems much more willing to do than Hahn. You're not going to find franchise savers on the waiver wire, but you can find useful pieces if you try. You can't if you just sit on your hands.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
I mean, they'll IL Meidroth if he's hurt enough to be out a bit and will DFA someone else (likely Maton or Palacios) if not. They're not going to "phantom IL" Meidroth.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
Glad Elko got the call, he's earned it. I'll be rooting for the guy, but I have low expectations. 30% K rates in the minor leagues do not translate well to the big leagues, especially for a DH type. I suspect most of the those clamoring for him the past month will be complaining about his inability to make contact in no time.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
Why would you phantom IL one of your few interesting young players? He's either legitimately dinged up and is expected to be unavailable for a week, or it'll be someone else.

Gotta be Palacios if Meidroth isn't going back to the IL.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
What makes AV an entitled prima Donna? Literally strikes me as the opposite. Simply due to that Osik dudes tweet? AV has hit in 6 of 7 games and reached base in 12 straight. Still hitting the ball hard. Maybe just maybe things are turning a bit.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Tavares is pretty uninteresting to me. Low OBP. Ks 3x more than he walks. Is he an improvement on Palacios? Yah, sure. But I don't really see the need to pay the guy $5M or whatever he is owed to be bad.

White Sox to get Montgomery back to Charlotte (late) next week, still eyeing majors (Janish)
Meh. Soxtalk is one small % of Sox fans. Plenty out there seem to think he's the savior without looking any further. Fwiw - I think Elko has earned a shot. I just don't think he'll be any good when gets it.

White Sox to get Montgomery back to Charlotte (late) next week, still eyeing majors (Janish)
Right!? Sox fans crack me up. I've been as hard on Colson as anyone, but "s%*# or get off the pot" time is at least two years away. Dude just turned 23. And the rest of the fanbase is ready to anointp Tim Elko, who is the same age as AV, the savior of the franchise.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
Plays like this for another 6-8 weeks and he's definitely returning a top 100 prospect or two. Big if tho, one streaky dude!

And that's an 8-0 WHITE SOX WINNER
That deal was definitely a player short with Kopech being involved. But it's obvious no one was going to give up a ton for Erick Fedde, a back end rotation guy having a really nice first half. Vargas was clearly the most interesting offensive piece they were offered in return. If Vargas can even be a just a meh starter putting up 6-8 WAR over his Sox tenure, the deal was a win for the Sox. Still a very big if. But you also have two very decent premium position prospects as well, which we all know the Sox need in spades. "Fallout disaster" seems to be reach.

And that's an 8-0 WHITE SOX WINNER
Huh? He is currently on pace for 2 fWAR, which is what I said. Almost all do that has come in this small sample of him being really good, yes. No one is denying that. He could forget how to bat again tomorrow. But he's hitting and outside of a blunder today, he's been excellent in the field which wasn't really expected. It's a positive development - enjoy it for a millisecond man. It's ok.
-
And that's an 8-0 WHITE SOX WINNER
Shrug. Vargas has actually looked pretty darn good the last couple weeks. 2 WAR isn't exactly a huge number or anything, but getting that out of him would be nice. IDGAF about Sheets, totally different player and circumstance.
-
And that's an 8-0 WHITE SOX WINNER
Miguel Vargas now on pace to exceed 2 fWAR and Jake Burger is optioned to the minor leagues.

4/30/2025 Brewers @White Sox. Shane Smith v. his old team . MLB. TV Free Game of the Day 6:40 CDT
If you're going to keep running AV out there, at least move him down to the bottom third of the lineup. On the bright side, Robert showing some signs of life and Vargas looking like a legit big leaguer since the mechanical changes to his swing.

Colson Montgomery to AZ Complex
Probably less of a kick in the nuts than looking helpless against AAA pitching. Colson has no one to blame but himself.

New City-Connects: Bulls / Sox collab
I like the final version much more than the prototype we saw a few weeks ago. And if they're keeping the black Southside Js, this is all good for me.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
Vaughn has 4 full years of service, not 5. You need 5.0 before you cannot be optioned.

Free Tim Elko (Back in Jail)
My guess is Elko will be in Chicago tomorrow. I personally would just option AV at this point to avoid the problem I lay out below. No need to DFA him - send him to AAA to try to get right. But I doubt the Sox actually do that to him. At this point you pretty much have to put Elko on the roster. But if you do, one of AV, Elko or Quero have to be on the bench each day Quero does not catch. And once Lee returns, it only becomes more difficult to manage because it appears to me they're going to have to carry 3 catchers. Pretty tough to carry 3 catchers and 2 1B/DH only, and Lee likely isn't too far off from returning. AV just sitting on the bench does not make much sense. You either need to play him, or send him to AAA and play him there.

4/27 game thread Sox at Athletics 3:05 CDT
Could still option AV. Would be an un White Sox thing to do but maybe a few weeks hitting against inferior pitching would help the guy out.

Sox acquire Workman
Drury has not hit at all in AAA. I'd let that happen first before we worry about him.

In what world is $3.5M a high salary in MLB? It's mice nuts
