Eder, Fletcher DFA'd , Thorpe to the 60 day IL
While I would be fine claiming Canario, the guy would just K 40% of the time. I do look forward to the threads posted here in a few weeks when he hits a homer and someone takes a victory lap.

There really isn't a good argument for this particular season and the circumstances on the roster.

Woof. Surprising choices. At least Getz appears willing to admit his mistakes. Hahn would have held onto Fletcher for several more seasons (though I'd rather play Fletcher than the shitty vets they signed).

Sox Spring Training notes
Good. Zero reason to waste a year of service on this trashheap of a team. Call both him and Hagan Smith up in May 2026.

Opening Day Angels/Sox 3/27...
I mean, idk. This team is quite a bit worse on paper than last year's and anyone that plays over replacement level is and should be traded. I think 50 wins is likely the ceiling, but as I said, I sure hope to see some watchable baseball and be pleasantly surprised - at least at the start of the season.

Opening Day Angels/Sox 3/27...
I've never been more down on the Sox than I now. But Opening Day is still great. Sox are extremely likely to lose 115-125 games, but fuckina, we're allowed to have a tiny bit of hope today. The Angels blow too, so let's start this season off on the right foot with a series win!

Colas DFA'd. Greg Jones claimed
Colas? I doubt he gets released. He'll either get claimed (likely), or he clear waivers and Sox send him back to AAA as non-roster depth (ideal).

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Easy answer. Because they filled the roster with a bunch of worthless veterans with no value. The strategy is and has been fucking terrible.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
Can't they add him back to the mlb roster then 60 day IL him?

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
So three more 40 man spots needed. Thorpe is 1. So 2 more guys on the chopping block and Eisert certainly seemed like he was going to be 1. With Tyler Gilbert supposedly going to the IL, pretty much has to be Schuster and Owen White considering 26 of the 40 man roster are pitchers.

Colas DFA'd. Greg Jones claimed
Just not at all a fan of not giving Colas a chance this season. Writing has been on the wall, but I just don't like it. He must be a very real clubhouse issue.

For now, SunTimes hints Amaya starter at SS (Maton Gray Baldwin Jankowski all boarded plane for Chicago)
I would think Eisert, Gilbert, White and Schuster would all be on the chopping block before Leasure. They can create a spot by putting Carela on the MLB 60 day. Leasure is one of the more interesting pen pieces they have IMO.

Would be very very surprised to see that.

Drury Released, Varland Sent Down
100%. I think this is the right decision even if he had a much better spring.
-
How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
D. Staff hiring and clear change of direction from previous regime only thing saving an F.
-
Drury Released, Varland Sent Down
Yeah, that is likely the group. This team might lose 130.
-
Drury Released, Varland Sent Down
Narvaez released and Meidroth told he's not making the team. Those 13 players just got harder to find.
-
Merkin really loves Will Venable
Merkin is kind of the worst. The Sox beat situation is in worse situation than the team.
-
Drury Released, Varland Sent Down
It makes plenty of sense. He likely had an opt out in his deal if he was not added to 40 man by today. Why would the Sox DFA a younger player just to IL Drury for 2 months? A guy that was literally awful last season, is nearly 33 and just had a hand injury. He's really of no use to the Sox right now if he cannot play. I'm sure they'll try to bring him back on an milb deal if he's willing.
-
Thorpe to get TJS per Merkin 3/22
High hopes for a soon to be 33 year old without much of a defensive position that OPS'd .469 across nearly 400 plate appearances last season? Hah. Brandon Drury blows man.
-
Thorpe to get TJS per Merkin 3/22
Can't help but wonder if this injury was disgustingly mismanaged.
-
Thorpe to get TJS per Merkin 3/22
Pitchers get hurt. Not getting a legit position player back in the Cease deal was a failure. That being said, those guys are not really moved anymore.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I was responding to a post that was only referring to position players and the fact that fringe guys like Colas, Fletcher and Sosa are getting crowded out by shitty vets that accomplish nothing for this club in short or long term for reasons I have already explained in this thread. I am excited for the season and will hope for the best. I am all for giving Getz rope. He is our guy whether we want him or not. But I don't at all agree with his strategy this offseason. I sincerely hope I am proven wrong and a couple of Slater, Drury, Tauchmann, Taylor turn into actual trade pieces that can return something meaningful. But color me skeptical. I'd rather just let the controllable fringe guys play in what is certain to be a 100+ loss season.
