  1. Definitely a 'Sox gonna Sox' situation.
  2. Duvall just signed for the same $3M as Pillar too. Woof. Now I am sure he'd rather play for the Braves than the Sox, but even the minor moves just don't look good at all. Willing to let this thing play out a bit before jumping to major conclusions, but its just ugly.
  3. This. Run him about there for half a dozen starts and see what happens. IF he gets shelled, then move him to the pen. The other side effect here is putting a guy like Nastrini or Thorpe or even Crochet (if he continues to get stretched out in the minors) in the OD rotation when you gain an extra year for letting Kopech take a few turns. Its stupid.
  4. I knew Clevinger was going to regret turning down his side of the option.
  5. I don't understand this decision. You can always move him to the pen later. This is a move you probably are not coming back from, and Kopech has way more value as a SP both to the Sox, and to other teams.
  6. I agree. I felt like Kepler would rake playing 80 games at the Cell. But I looked him his career ballpark splits and while he's hit 11 homers in our park (2nd most non-home park after CLE), his slash line of .192/.291/.385 is really ugly. But I still feel like he could be a solid shorter term fit, and he's a pretty good defender, though is slowing down in his 30s.
  7. Sox have $122.35M 2024 payroll including the following: All guaranteed contracts $8M dead money to Garcia, Hendriks and Abreu Pillar ($3M) & Mendick (MLB min) making the roster If Mous makes it, it'll be ~$123.5M.
  8. So the Sox are going to go from a top 10 spending team last 2-3 seasons to the Oakland A's in Jerry's twilight years? Because that's basically what you're insinuating if JR isn't going to allow Getz to spend any money the next two offseasons.
  9. To be fair, most of the pitchers they lost - despite being well known names - were somewhere between OK to absolutely terrible last season.
  10. Is Jerry really going to want to watch horseshit baseball the last few years of his life? I don't expect the Sox to become free spending, but they have like $50M committed to 2025 payroll. They can spend a ton of $ without even coming close to the previous payroll highs in 21-23.
  11. Gave it a B here, but B- / C+ feels right to me.
  12. He is a superstar controlled for 4 more seasons. We’re at least 2 years away from being able to get enough in return for moving Robert to make a lick of sense.
  13. From what I’ve read, he was moved to the pen because the Friars thought they might need him in the mlb pen last fall.
  14. So I’m guessing Sox are offering 1/$8M so JR doesn’t have to spend a penny more.
  15. Thank god we got your expert take on the deal! Can close the thread down now.
  16. Replace Snelling with Iriarte and this deal feels much more like what we were expecting. Ultimately takes two tango. Pretty obvious to me Getz lowered his ask this week.
  17. Let’s just be happy that poster isn’t making roster decisions or Cease would have been moved for half this value 4 months ago.
  18. Eloy would put them into the tax. Pretty sure they’re trying to avoid that.
  19. If that’s the full deal, I’m slightly underwhelmed. It’s not a terrible return, but this isn’t what I would define as “steep” by any means. Zavala is definitely a nice get.
  20. So far they only need to create 1 40 man spot.
  21. I mean useful reliever with 4 years of cheap control is worth *something*.
  22. That noise you hear is Balta firing up the backhoe to move those goalposts!
  23. Very unlikely it’s the “next one”. At least 16 months from trading Robert.
  24. I can’t wait for the Os to finish 3rd in the ALE. Morons.
  25. It’s not like they released Lee. My guess is we’ll see plenty of him in 24.
