Trading One Year Assets is Inevitable. Maybe even 2-yr
ChiSox59 replied to SouthSideGeorgia's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not trading Middleton would be insane. He's a FA in 3 months. He's paid nothing. He's been really good. I imagine lots of clubs would be interested. If you can turn him into a SP prospect (won't be a super higher end one, obviously), you absolutely have to do it. -

I think Sox could get a decent piece for Middleton. He's paid league minimum. I imagine every contending club would be interested, especially the cheap ones. -

Bummer and Graveman should have value. Middleton too. Kelly might have a little value left, but his last few weeks probably zapped a good chunk of it. -

Ehhh. SP is in such demand that if he comes back and has a couple solid starts, someone would take him off the Sox hands. Wouldn't return much but a lottery ticket and some salary relief, tho. -
Sox aren’t eating Moncadas salary to move him. He is on the 2024 roster.

Seems like an interesting call for a guy who is prone to extended streaks of futility at the plate, but it’ll be fun to watch.

7/4 Gamethread (Giolito vs. Bassitt)

Yeah, 9-11 wins feels about right. Still should make their deadline plans plenty clear with a .500ish month. -

6-15? They play 2 series with teams above .500 in July. -
There was a contingent of Sox fans that wanted to non tender Gio. I certainly was not one of those bafoons, but of course there is a reason not to hand him $120M+. The reality of the situation is the Sox are incredibly unlikely to be the high bidders on Gio. This FA SP class is weak; Gio is likely 2nd or third best available. Sox aren’t winning that bidding. Let the bidding begin now and turn Gio into 6.5 years of control of an MLB ready top 100 SP prospect that can step right into rotation.

Benintendi has been better than Suzuki.

6/30 - Sox @ Vegas A’s of Oakland: 840CT

I mean…that’s a bit much. Very well may be a lost season for TA at this point. But it’s unlikely he never finds his stroke again. -

Call me crazy, but it might be time to remove Tim from the top of the order. Just a hunch. -
Of course not. Suggesting Giolito and Rodon are anything resembling comparable situations is silly.
-
My guess is he’ll rejoin the team on Tuesday in Chicago
-
He is playing tonight so he’s not seriously hurt. Seby looked shook up after running into Burger yesterday. Maybe he’s a bit dizzy today. We already knew Perez was in town so this could be a short term move. Sox an OF short with Haseley going so wouldn’t be surprised at all to see Colas soon, tho he is in Charlottes lineup tonight.

If hockey worked in Vegas (and it has...swimmingly)...baseball will work just fine assuming they do the stadium right. Knowing Vegas, they'll do the stadium right. I think Vegas will be an incredible spot for an MLB team. -
I bet ya $100 that IF the Sox don't trade Giolito, they'll offer him the QO. Deal?
-
Yeah, I have been thinking about this myself. I too think Giolito is too valuable not to trade. But certainly don't think Hahn will pull the trigger until the very last minute unless Sox fall back into 8+ GB range. Giolito, as it sits right now, is likely the top FA SP after Ohtani and perhaps Yamamoto. His value should be a prospect in the 50-100 range. If you could flip him for a major league ready SP that you can just plug right into the rotation effectively turning 12 Gio starts into 6.5 seasons of a SP, that'd pretty tough to not pull the trigger on. Names like Gavin Stone, Emmet Sheehan (LA), Quinn Priester (PIT), Andrew Abbott (CIN), and AJ Smith-Shawver (ATL) are all major league ready or close and could make varies degrees of sense.

TA to bench. Remilliard in and batting 2 nd. No brainer.
ChiSox59 replied to hankchifan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can mods at least fix the thread to spell the dude's name right? Remy deserves to play everyday right now. Stick him at 2B until that batting average falls below .280. s%*#, give Burger a day off. He's been awful for awhile now. -

Yeah. Honestly, Scholtens has been good and Touki has been very interesting. Both those dudes might be making regular starts for the Sox in a month. I am cool with it - I'd rather them pitch in Oakland then at home against Toronto. But I definitely hear you - this is a series that (if you want the Sox to make things interesting) they kind of need to sweep, or worst case 2/3.
