QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 35s35 seconds ago To Dodgers: Wood, Latos, Morse, Avilan, Johnson, Peraza, Arroyo To Braves: Olivera, Paco, Bird, pick To Marlins: Brigham, Guzman, Araujo Holy balls that's a lot of players The trade makes more sense from ATL's side now that we know the Dodgers are picking up Arroyo's tab. So basically, ATL got Touki in this deal as well. It is pretty crazy MLB lets the Dodgers throw their dick around like this.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Well that couldn't be any worse for us. Crazy to think that the Jays are only 1/2 game in front of the Sox right now, and they just emptied their system for Tulo and Price. Albeit, Tulo will be there beyond 2015, but still pretty wild, and quite a gamble considering they likely won't catch the Yanks either way and will be relying on a 1 game playoff, at best.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) This merely puts the Blue Jays in a better position to compete with the White Sox. That is what I like to hear!

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) Is it done? Not yet, but all signs pointing that way.
-
Bummer, but their pitching still sucks.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:13 AM) People arguing Gomez over CarGo are nuts lol. When healthy CarGo is a superstar. Gomez is not. You're sorta clueless, man.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) Watching MLB network and they just talked to Morisi who said he thinks we are buyers, obviously but what is interesting is he thinks we buy another SP. The names he mentioned were Ian Kennedy from SD or Mike Leake from Cincy. No mention of a bat at all. Another SP wouldn't hurt, but why? EJ could likely give you what Leake or Kennedy could (or slightly less, but at the league minimum and giving up no assets to get him). A bat is what this team needs. I am also fine leaving the bullpen as is.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) We're not allowed to trade anyone under the age of 25 for anyone over the age of 25, doesn't matter who the players are. Hah, I know you're being factious, but it is going to be a quiet deadline then!

QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) this is a what if conversation.... it is not real. And "bet my house" is a common phrase....
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:37 AM) Puig is a young impact bat. Carlos is 30 and not putting up great numbers. Yet, Gomez is still worth 1 WAR more than Puig this year and has spent time on the DL. Since Puig has been in the league, Gomez has been worth 14.9 WAR versus Puig's 10.9. So, I digress.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) No it isn't. Sometimes to get a good impact bat ya gotta give up pitching. We've shown the ability to draft and develop pitching. Hell even take a guy off the scrap heap and turn him around into a borderline ace. Ok, well I have explained to you why it is multiple times, so agree to disagree. But I'd bet my house the Sox wouldn't make this trade. It would be a very short sighted move.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) the upside is much better, if that is all it is cost. If that is all it costs? C'mon now. You're not giving enough credit to one of the best 15 SP in the game, and way too much credit to a meathead clown with presently terrible numbers, who will be a FA two years before Quintana who would likely be one of the best 5 SP in the NL at a cheap cost. All that said, I don't think LA needs more SP at this point, so the Q for Puig trade makes less sense than ever.
-
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) i like both Cargo's but prefer Gonzalez because he fits the Sox needs better and will probably cost less to acquire. i still think to acquire either, they have to move LaRoche and move Avi to DH and go with that lineup rather than trying to find aat bats for both Avi and Adam. Or you trade Avi and some low level guy for Gonzalez.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) No thanks to Gomez. Pretty funny coming from the guy pushing Carlos Gonzalez, and Quintana for Puig. I like all the above options, but Carlos Gomez is probably the best overall player of any of them, and he's signed to a very team friendly deal. I think I like Carlos Gonzalez move the best, just because it will cost the least in terms of prospects, and I am not the one paying the check (altho, I do realize it may hamstring us in other areas). The Quintana for Puig idea is asinine.
-
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) That's why I'd like to see us go for Puig. Nice young impact bat. He's struggled this year no doubt but it would be a monster trade and good add. If Quintana isn't involved, sure.

I honestly forgot that Olivera was 30 years old. Damn. His numbers is Cuba were absolute pails in comparison to Jose's (obviously a much more premium position, but considering the $$ he got). Sort of surprised ATL had to give up Peraza in this deal, but I suppose the the Dodgers picking up half of the Olivera's contract (in bonus $), it makes more sense. Still seems a bit steep. I wonder what Braves fans think.

Alex Wood seems more likely to me, unless they're trying to GET ALL THE LEFTIES like the Sox.

QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) Doesn't look like that good of a deal for the Phillies, who also apparently sent $9.5 million in cash with Hamels. Guessing the Astros put together a better package but were stymied by the no trade clause. 3 of the guys are top 100 prospects: Jake Thompson - 60 Nick Williams - 64 Jorge Alfaro - 69 The other two are in the 20's in the Rangers system. And Matt Harrison used to be a top of the rotation pitcher, and may return to that, and can be slotted into the rotation right away. I think it's a pretty damn good return.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:50 AM) Happy Chris Sale Day! Let's sweep this terrible team and get to .500! I like our chances in this one. Sale will only need 2 or 3, max.
-
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Gomez is a f*** stick. I would rather not have to root for him. He's a guy you love to hate, but would love to have on your team. He's a heck of a player and goes all out.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:03 PM) We'd probably want to trade Avi so we don't have to carry an extra OF. Unless you want to option Shuck to AAA. And can Gomez play RF? Or will Eaton? Gomez could play anywhere in the Of, but is a much better CF than Eaton (and most CF in the game).
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:50 PM) Now that the Gomez trade has fallen through, he is still available to anyone on the market. The Brewers have already shown their hand on what they'd need for him. They wanted a young pitcher and an infielder. Why don't the Sox offer Montas, Micah, and a lower level prospect for him? I think the Brewers would be interested. Imagine how good the Sox would be with Gomez behind Eaton? Plus Gomez would be here for 2016 as well. Let's discuss. I think Hahn should try to get him. Not sure Montas would be as enticing as Wheeler. Plus, Micah got hurt tonight (any updates anyone?). I do like the idea if they can get it done, tho.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) No he's not. Heyman said he was not 10 mins ago on MLBN.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:29 PM) They've got like 8-9 starters right now. Darvish Hamels Holland Gallardo (FA at end of the year, but they really like him) Chi Chi Rodriguez Harrison Colby Lewis Nick Martinez Logically, Chi Chi Rodriguez would have to be the other prospect...or Odor/Profar (albeit injured). Martin Perez as well, who is Better than half that list.
-
Chi Chi Gonzalez also in the deal.
