  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) L. Garcia in my opinion is another one of those "Four A" players (and the Sox have a bunch of them). Impressive stats in the minor leagues but when they get their chance at the major league level they can't do a thing. Garcia had a chance last year and didn't show much. Sox need to do better than him. Mark Lip, no disrespect meant, but you finally have enough of the other board? I remember you well from my days over there before I found Soxtalk.
  2. The Pirates may make some sense for Conor. Our old friend Brent Morel is #1 on the depth chart at the hot corner at the moment.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) One problem I'm now noticing...who would play 1b? Abreu looks like he's about to fall apart right now and that's after 5 days off. I don't exactly care about losing more games, but seriously who plays 1b for the next few games/if Abreu goes on the DL and LaRoche is shipped out? I am sure Davidson could play first base if they really got in a pickle.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Yall really want the Sox to pay $9 million for Alexei Ramirez next year? Get a 3B and let Saladino play short. It is actually $11M, y'all.
  5. Good read. Biggest problem is the Sox don't really have anyone to play SS other than Saladino or Sanchez and then that opens up 3B and 2B. Or you could do 3B - Saladino, SS - Sanchez, 2B - Johnson, but then you have a very, very light hitting offense. At this point, I may be more inclined to do that and just turn the page on Alexei. I could totally see him bouncing back next year, but his poor ABs and often lackadaisical demeanor have sort of worn thin on me. I just think it is time to move on if you can get anything of value for him. I don't see the Sox picking up the option.
  6. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) Eaton contract is one Sox are going to regret. Start trading Monday Hahn no reason to keep people. Hard to regret a contract that a guy makes peanuts. Maybe the last year when he is making $8.5 but other than that he'll be worth what he's getting paid. But f*** facts, right?
  7. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) A DFA allows you 10 days to trade, release or outright a player if I'm correct. So they could still trade him? Right but the point is that you're not exactly increasing a guys value by Designating him. If they could have gotten something useful, they probably would have already. But there is still a chance, yes.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) Flexible to do what? .360 OPS? Play below average defense at 3 positions? 1/5 in steal attempts? He isn't replacement value at a single thing. Defense is important, but the Sox are paying high, high price for the defense they get from Sanchez and Beckham (and Bonifacio). Play patty much anywhere on the diamond besides C/P. Not saying he is good at it. Look, I'm not defending Boni, I just said I understand the move even tho it wasn't the easy one to make.
  9. QUOTE (LDF @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) i don't know if this is a right move or not, i think there are other factors at work. i can see him being an option, if he can work out of his hitting slump. his lack of D at 3b is but a minor excuse. his production has added to an excuse to dfa but i think that is the only reason. boni running is greater than conor hitting.... i don't think so. Defense at 3B is not a minor excuse. Yeah Connors bat is maybe slightly above replacement level, but his glove is so bad that you can't start him at 3B anymore. If you can't see that, I digress. Boni has flexibility and Conor has none. I wouldn't have complained of it was Boni not Connor, but I understand the decision.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) Most predictable post ever... The ignore feature is your friend. Makes this place much more readable.
  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Yes, who can question a 73 win team spending $6 million on utility infielders, neither of whom can hit, and one who can neither hit nor defend? What team wouldn't keep a player with a .356 OPS on its 25 man roster? Gillaspie is a better hitter than Beckham or Bonifacio. And he can play 1st. What purpose does Gillaspie serve if he's not the starting 3B? He's not good defensively at 3B. You mention 1B - any infielder can play 1B and we have a gold glover who DHs most days. His role would be that of strict pinch hitter and we already have a better LH pinch hitter in Shuck on the roster. Since Saladino came up, Gillaspie has been MIA. I'm not thrilled about the move simply because I like Connor, but it is the right move. Gordon can't hit at all but he is an asset to have on the bench defensively. And Boni has been terrible, but he at least can run a bit, something every bench needs.
  12. Bummed for Connor. He was a pretty decent ball player for us the past two years. But the Sox need D at 3B, and that he cannot provide. He just didn't make sense on this roster any longer.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) If the Sox don't win this game is on Hahn for being a pitcher short. Teal implied I hope.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) It will be Bonifacio, I really believe. I feel like Boni serves more of a purpose. If Saladino is the 3B, connor would be relagated to ph duties only. Not sure that's worth a roster spot, but is have a hard time dfa Connor too.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Argument against: Neither are great hitters, Beckham is a better runner and vastly better defensively. Shuck and Bonifacio provide lefty hitting off the bench. Conor just doesn't make sense unless he's starting. I am sure they are trying to trade Connor as we speak rather than just designating him, but I can't imagine anyone is beating down the door.
  16. I like him - easy guy to root for. I met him at a restaurant in Minneapolis a couple months back and he was a super nice guy too. Was probably surprised to be recognized.
  17. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) I'm just saying man, he has a tendency to give up these early f***ing runs. Look at what happened Sunday. He just need to pitch better and he has proven he can in the past. 4 hits to start the game is pretty bad. You can't even defend that. But you jumped ship after 2. It is pathetic.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) Would not mind Q being dealt. Comical.
  19. IvE wondered this for awhile...anyone know who the younger guy who is always in warm ups in the dugout is? He'll be out playing catch with the guys before games and looks like he could be a player himself...would guess he definitely played pro ball, but can't be older than 30 I wouldn't think. Most definitely not with the training staff.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) Snaps together a great season? Like last year? He put up 5.3 fWAR last season and is on pace for a 4+ win season this year. Quintana is a 26 year old LH stud that is on a team friendly deal for the next 5 seasons. It's absurd to me that other MLB teams wouldn't know and understand how good he is. He will not be traded unless it's for an absolute haul. He may be unknown to the general baseball fan base but he certainly is not unknown to the front offices. Q would bring back an absolute haul if the White Sox decided to trade him. And if they don't get those sort of offers in return, Q will be going nowhere.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) He already used his option for this year as he was on the 40 man roster before this game. Correct.
  22. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Chris Sale to the Cubs for Schwarber, Javier Baez, CJ Edwards, Corey Black, and Gleyber Torres. Cubs would still be loaded and have arguably the best pitcher in the game locked up. Would the Cubs be giving up enough? You have a 26 year old that is arguably the best pitcher in baseball and happens to be locked up long-term at great value, how would you ever get his true value? Sox would get a potential all-star catcher, 2 guys rotation ready, a 2B/SS/CF with very good power, and a very good SS prospect for the future. I got through this whole post and became sick to my stomach at the thought of trading Sale. I feel like Quintana wouldn't get the right return since he's not a big name per se, and Shark being a rental wouldn't return a lot. I would be so mad if that trade happened, it wouldn't even be funny. There is 0% that is enough.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Just to note again, Catcher is actually the position where the Sox have their 2nd highest fWAR. Tyler Flowers has more fWAR than any of our position player regulars other than Abreu. Maybe you think someone will improve next year at one of those positions, fine, but I certainly wouldn't say "we must find a catcher" or "finding a new catcher is more important than 3b, SS, OF, or 2b". I am aware. I think that has more to do with everyone else playing well under their career norms that Tyler Flowers and Geo Soto being good at baseball. Either would be a fine back-up. Problem is, there are very few good catchers in baseball right now, but I'd certainly like one of the top 10 catching prospects in the game and give him a chance next year than rely on either one of those two for more than back-up duty in 2016. Unlike you, I think we're fine in the OF for now, and we have several internal options at 2B and SS. 3B and C would be my priorities, and SS next.
  24. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) No he couldn't. Well if he can't fill at least one of 3B or C (plus some additional prospects), he simply won't be traded.
