QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Only game going on now I think and yet it took so long and the y blew the call unless they think Avi got tagged on the arm before the tag on the waist, but other wise it's SOS ( same old Sox). 2 lead off walks 2 outs on the bases. Tough to tell if he got him on the arm or not there. But it needs to be a judgement call. My judgement would be that he didn't get the arm..but since there was no "definitive evidence" that he didn't get the arm...well, they stick with the call on the field. Yes, it needs work.

I think the Sox will stand pat for the most part if they continue to play good baseball. If they fall below 6 games under .500 at any point, I am sure Shark will be dealt. I could also see a bullpen arm or two moved since we do have a surplus there. Probably Putnam would be the first to go. However, if the Sox get hot and get back to .500, I'd almost be surprised if they don't try to find a bat or two or help the offense.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Puig in RF = the White Sox have a much better chance at competing in 2016. Garcia in RF = not sure why you'd think the White Sox can be competitive with him out there. You can give Avi more time in RF, fine, but build a roster with the expectation that you're not going to be that much better than this year. If the White Sox want to compete in 2016 and have Avi in RF, they need to be much stronger everywhere else on the diamond, and that's a lot of talent they don't have. Obviously Puig would be a net + in RF over Avi right now. But you don't trade your 2nd best trading chip, and a guy who is locked up long-term well below market value for him. By the way, you still think Melky is a 1 WAR player moving forward?
-
The Sox wouldn't do Q for Puig straight up. If the Sox trade Q, it will be to get an above average ML ready 3B or C, + some other high upside prospects. The Sox definitely would not just throw Avi in the deal in addition. Let's fix the holes we have, not fix something that isn't broken (I am not an Avi hater, and want to give him at least another 1.5 seasons - the dude is young).

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) They need to move Samardzija now. The market is ripe. Plenty of fish in the sea this offseason to replace him. The Sox are at least going to see how this next week goes. Hold your horses, bud.

Let's sweep these bastards.

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Doesn't DRob have 3 years left on his deal after this year and $30+ million owed to him? I just don't see a team taking on his full contract unless they're REALLY desperate for relievers. That is what top tier relievers get paid. Sox weren't even the highest bidder this offseason, and let's not pretend like he has fallen off a cliff. -

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) No one will take on Robertson's contract unless the Sox pick up most up the money. That's not worth it. The Sox should keep him for now. Doubt that is true. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) If I am reading this correctly, that means another move it still to come, plus another for the 26th man. Stay tuned. Chicago White Sox @whitesox 1m1 minute ago Chicago, IL White Sox have recalled right-handed pitcher @frankmontas from @BhamBarons. Montas will be active for both games. Montas will wear No. 60. How do you read that as two moves still to come? Isn't the 26th man always active for both games? What about that tweet makes you think Montas isn't the 26th man (in addition to another move)? -
Why Micah Johnson should not be moved to the outfield
ChiSox59 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Great article. He can't be moved to the outfield for all the reasons you suggested. It's interesting how Micah has gone from being a savior type (Hawk's hype last year) to somebody considered laughably bad defensively and not even much of a hitter on the big league level. A month or so of big-league ball took the luster off Micah. Does anybody actually expect anything from him now? His reputation now seems to be a horrific defender with fantastic speed yet limited hitting skills as well. Reputations mean nothing. Micah will be a productive major league hitter. He just needs to work on his D, which by all accounts he has. Not sure he is a great fit for the Sox, just because they really need to improve their D, not hurt it, but he'll get another shot. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Look at Chris Sale's career so far, and think about it. One of two things is going on. Either the Sox are paranoid about his arm falling off, and seeing as he has missed some time in each season as a starter in his career, that might be well founded. Or #2, he is hurt, and they are trying not to go public with that fact, which make the ASG fiasco make a lot more sense, and it also makes his "extra rest" make sense. Or he'll pitch Sunday and this is nothing but some clown on the Score's speculation.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) What's the point of skipping him right now though? He's already been off for a week, and they need to beat KC if they want to be in contention. Dumb if true. This is the biggest series of the year so far.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox 8m8 minutes ago Chicago, IL For those asking about rotation: Samardzija and Danks tomorrow (in that order), Quintana Saturday. No confirmation for Sunday yet. There is no way Sale doesn't go Sunday. -
Hawk will die in the booth (maybe not literally), and I am sure that is the way he wants to go. Until he becomes senile, I doubt the Sox take his job away.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) After looking over the schedule, are we positive that Montas won't start one of Friday's games? QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) Erik is going in the AAA All Star Game tonight, so he'd be unavailable on Friday. Presumably the org. therefore must want him pitching in that game. Ahhhaa. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 04:04 PM) did I miss something on Carroll? I thought he was sent down July 10th? I am thinking Montas is the extra guy we are allowed to bring up for a DH. You can expand the roster to 26 players correct? Correct. I just think everyone thinks it is a bit of a bizzare choice over Erik Johnson who presumably could start one of the games. Montas could too, I suppose, but he doesn't even average 5.0 IP in the minors..so hard to expect him to go 5 in the bigs. Most likely, he'll be used in relief if needed. It also means it is likely Danks will get a start this weekend, as I am sure they're going to give Rodon as much time as possible for the blister to heal. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) If they don't think he can be a starter, now would exactly be the time to trade him. Yeah, he is actually a guy I'd be fine trading if we can get a controllable bat in return at 3B or C. He is going to be a reliever long term. -

Interesting. For a guy averaging 4.2 IP per start this year, not sure if I like this move in the short term (maybe rather see EJ). But it will be exciting to see him in a Sox uni. -
Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY
ChiSox59 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Sonny Gray pulled himself from the game because he pitched Sunday. Why do that instead of just showing up and not pitching??? Remember when Pujols trashed LaRussa for not playing him in an All star game??? I have no problem that Sale didn't pitch. But why not let him stay home and send another White Sox pitcher to tha game?? Robertson would have pitched for example. I bet Sale really wanted to pitch once he got there. The pitchers that "pull themselves" from the game still attend the game and other festivities and sit on the bench. There are always way more pitchers than needed in an ASG. I think it is bummer that Sale didn't pitch because I know he really wanted to, but it is much better for the team that he didn't. -
Wild Wild White Sox: Tyler Saladino walks into a bar

I enjoyed reading it, but someone has some serious time on their hands. -
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) The Max Pentecost discussion arises from the fact that the Sox have no catching depth in their system. There are only a handful of real catching prospects available now, and Pentecost is highly rated and possibly available in trade. Texas has MLB pipeline's #1 catching prospect, Jorge Alfaro. But after Texas' recent skid, I don't think they are going to go off the deep end for the Shark. The Cub has Schwarber (MLB Pipeline #2), and he's not going anywhere. Tampa Bay has Justin O'Conner (#3), and Tampa Bay isn't going to sell their future for a 3-month rental. Same for Pittsburgh and Reese McGuire (#4). Hence Toronto and Max Pentecost. The Yankees have Gary Sanchez (#6), but MLB Pipeline suggests that he may need an attitude adjustment. Colorado isn't buying; they're selling, so Tom Murphy (#7) won't be available. Washington doesn't need pitching, so #8 catching prospect Jackson Reetz will continue to hone his skills in short-season Auburn. #9 Austin Barnes in the Dodgers organization is intriguing, and he may be available in a trade. #10 Chase Vallot plays in the Kansas City system, and I don't think Samardzija is going there in a trade. There are other catchers out there, Andrew Susac from the Giants could be a possibility. He's temporarily blocked by Buster Posey. But the Giants have been giving Posey playing time at 1B, and giving Susac playing time with the big league club. So a trade with San Francisco might not be possible. That leaves trades with Toronto for Hoffman and Pentecost, the Yankees for Sanchez and Jagilelo, or the Dodgers for Barnes and fill-in-the-blank if the White Sox want to get a catching prospect included in a return package for Samardzija. Nice post, Finn!
