Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday
ChiSox59 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) If they don't think he can be a starter, now would exactly be the time to trade him. Yeah, he is actually a guy I'd be fine trading if we can get a controllable bat in return at 3B or C. He is going to be a reliever long term. -

Interesting. For a guy averaging 4.2 IP per start this year, not sure if I like this move in the short term (maybe rather see EJ). But it will be exciting to see him in a Sox uni. -
Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY
ChiSox59 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Sonny Gray pulled himself from the game because he pitched Sunday. Why do that instead of just showing up and not pitching??? Remember when Pujols trashed LaRussa for not playing him in an All star game??? I have no problem that Sale didn't pitch. But why not let him stay home and send another White Sox pitcher to tha game?? Robertson would have pitched for example. I bet Sale really wanted to pitch once he got there. The pitchers that "pull themselves" from the game still attend the game and other festivities and sit on the bench. There are always way more pitchers than needed in an ASG. I think it is bummer that Sale didn't pitch because I know he really wanted to, but it is much better for the team that he didn't. -
Wild Wild White Sox: Tyler Saladino walks into a bar

I enjoyed reading it, but someone has some serious time on their hands. -
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) The Max Pentecost discussion arises from the fact that the Sox have no catching depth in their system. There are only a handful of real catching prospects available now, and Pentecost is highly rated and possibly available in trade. Texas has MLB pipeline's #1 catching prospect, Jorge Alfaro. But after Texas' recent skid, I don't think they are going to go off the deep end for the Shark. The Cub has Schwarber (MLB Pipeline #2), and he's not going anywhere. Tampa Bay has Justin O'Conner (#3), and Tampa Bay isn't going to sell their future for a 3-month rental. Same for Pittsburgh and Reese McGuire (#4). Hence Toronto and Max Pentecost. The Yankees have Gary Sanchez (#6), but MLB Pipeline suggests that he may need an attitude adjustment. Colorado isn't buying; they're selling, so Tom Murphy (#7) won't be available. Washington doesn't need pitching, so #8 catching prospect Jackson Reetz will continue to hone his skills in short-season Auburn. #9 Austin Barnes in the Dodgers organization is intriguing, and he may be available in a trade. #10 Chase Vallot plays in the Kansas City system, and I don't think Samardzija is going there in a trade. There are other catchers out there, Andrew Susac from the Giants could be a possibility. He's temporarily blocked by Buster Posey. But the Giants have been giving Posey playing time at 1B, and giving Susac playing time with the big league club. So a trade with San Francisco might not be possible. That leaves trades with Toronto for Hoffman and Pentecost, the Yankees for Sanchez and Jagilelo, or the Dodgers for Barnes and fill-in-the-blank if the White Sox want to get a catching prospect included in a return package for Samardzija. Nice post, Finn!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) That's why you're also asking for Hoffman. If Hoffman pans out, you can flip one of Montas/Hoffman/Fulmer for a position player. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed in a Hoffman/Pentecost return, but still think the Sox are better off targeting someone who can help the offense in 2016 at 3B or C. Pentecost isn't that guy. I also don't think Shark gets traded (notwithstanding being blown away with an offer) unless the Sox fall back to 6 games under .500 by next weekend.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 09:39 AM) Click on the person you want to ignore's user name. On their profile page there is a drop down menu that says options. Click on that and then click ignore user. Thank you. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) With Toronto you ask for Hoffman and Pentecost. Buyers market. I think you mean seller's market.

Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) I hope Sale is so pissed at Cooper and Ventura for making a big deal out of this. He should be FURIOUS. He knows his body. This team is four under and KC 18 over. Yeah that's sure a big series coming up ... NOT. Sale should be so mad at this joke of an organization. Pitching Saturday then Tuesday is a big deal??? Why not just shut him down a month so he doesn't get hurt? Can someone remind me how to use the ignore feature again? I can't read this crap anymore. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 51m51 minutes ago Josh Nelson @SSS_joshnelson @ChrisCotillo Anything you are hearing on the Jeff Samardzija front? Chris Cotillo added, One of the more likely players to be dealt. Astros like him, but plenty of interest out there. I think any of us could have told any of us that.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Montas and Adams for Cruz. Get it done. Yikes. That'd be an overpay.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Agreed. Does 7-3 make them buyers? 48-48 with 66 to play. No way Shark is traded. I could see Hahn trying to acquire a couple cheap bats if it doesn't cost much if the Sox are at .500 anytime before the deadline.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 14, 2015 -> 10:56 AM) If I were Robin, I'd let Erik Johnson start after Shark on Friday and give Sale the ball on Sunday. I just don't see how Robin could just give one of these games away by putting in Danks. These are "must win" games, so a Danks should not pitch in this series. Not a bad idea. Fri: Shark / EJ (26th man) Sat: Q Sun: Sale Tue: Danks Wed: Rodon (as much rest as possible for blister)
-
Rodon is going to be the #5 out of the break. He's got a nasty blister and they're going to give him until Monday to let it heal. Sale will pitch on Sunday.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) While we would like to consider them competent, the best WAR in the outfield is currently Adam Eaton at 0.0. Additionally, not one of them has a wRC+ over 93 or an ISO over 140. Not worried about Melky. He had a tough first couple months, a lot of which is attributable to bad luck. Sure, his power has been hard to find, but pretty much everyone in the lineups has been. Melky will earn his contract when all is said and done. I also don't worry about Eaton - just a tough year so far. Bruce is a fine player, but he really isn't the type of the guy the Sox should add. I do agree with you general sentiment though - that being, the Sox need to figure out C, 3B and RF/or DH this offseason. I personally am not ready to kick the can on Avi, so Bruce to me doesn't make a ton of sense. But as I said earlier, if they're willing to trade basically as a salary dump with maybe a B level prospect going back, it starts to make a little sense. But I just don't see that as likely, and Bruce is the type of player that have not worked out well for the Sox at all in recent history.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) I'd trade Melky and LaRoche for Bruce, nobody else except guys like Beckham and Boni and Conor and nobody wants those stiffs. You make lots of posts that make me laugh.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I know a lot of people are a hard pass on Bruce, but this might be a good time to strike on him. His stock seems to be down and the Reds are not interested in paying any of his remaining salary. When I look at him versus our current RF situation, Bruce has a better ISO, BB%, better wOBA, and much better defensive defensive metrics than Avi. I realize he is a strikeout machine, but this team is in desparate need of power/offense and improving their holes on defense. If a package might be able to be centered around Avi and a prospect, I think this is something that the Sox should look at. Meh. Depends what you'd have to give up. Not a huge Bruce fan, but if they want to give him away for someone taking on his salary and maybe a B prospect, I'd be more interested. Doubt that'll happen.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) To reiterate what soxfan2014 said, with teams losing their first round picks due to signing players who received qualifying offers, the comp round is dipping into the late first round now. Furthermore, with the amount of free agents this summer that should be receiving QO's, the Samardzija pick could come in anywhere between the late 20's, early 30's. There is a lot of talent to be had there and the Sox really shouldn't settle for anything less than they could get at that slot. Don't worry, they wont.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I agree - Q fits this team - he's a ground ball pitcher. Shark doesn't. I don't think he gets $25 million, though Move Shark soon - it's a seller's market NOW....but it may not be in 2 weeks. Get Erik Johnson up here and see what he can do. It is going to be a seller's market regardless. The Sox will hold onto Shark for at least another week. Patience, lad. If the Sox don't get what they want for Shark anyways, he won't be traded and they'll grab a pick in the 30s. I would have liked the looks of things a lot better if we were 2 under going into the ASB, but go take 3/4 from KC to start the 2nd half and let's see revisit in late July. The Sox play to win.

Sale pitching in AS Game in Emergency situation ONLY
ChiSox59 replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Chris wants to pitch, so he should pitch. 1 inning will be fine and Monday would have been a side session day anyway. I see no problem with letting the world see just how filthy this guy is. -
QUOTE (BigFinn @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) Before everybody jumps in on the "I hate Rick Hahn because he signed Emilio Bonifacio" bandwagon, I would like to point out that many people on this board were asking for Bonifacio BEFORE he was signed this past off-season. Myself, included. Yep. I was definitely one of those. It made too much sense. I also didn't think Beckham would be back, and thought Bonifacio would be a 3B against LHP (and back-up player everywhere else) - which hasn't really been the case at all.

Like it.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) I've never been more surprised by anything than Leury's meh defense last year. Usually scouting doesn't miss on that. Playing consistently helps with that...
-
It was time for Buerhls to move on when he did. But I wouldn't be against trading Quintana for king's ransom (hopefully mainly positional players) and signing Buehrle to a 2 year $15-20M deal this offseason. I don't think he makes much sense in the rotation if Sale, Rodon and Q are all in it already.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) No one will take him unless the Sox contribute $$. Maybe so, but $13M remains a fairly reasonable rate to pay a guy to hit .250ish with 20+ bombs and 80 or RBI. The bigger issue for the Cards is that Matt Adams will be back next year and then there is no where to play LaRoche. I think the Sox will actually be able to find a taker for LaRoche, if they're fine getting virtually nothing useful in return besides salary relief. Honestly, I'd be fine with that. I don't really like watching him play all that much, although I am fairly certain he'll be much better in the 2nd half than he has been in the first.
