7/19 - Royals at White Sox
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) Most predictable post ever... The ignore feature is your friend. Makes this place much more readable.

Gillaspie DFA'd; Albers called up
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Yes, who can question a 73 win team spending $6 million on utility infielders, neither of whom can hit, and one who can neither hit nor defend? What team wouldn't keep a player with a .356 OPS on its 25 man roster? Gillaspie is a better hitter than Beckham or Bonifacio. And he can play 1st. What purpose does Gillaspie serve if he's not the starting 3B? He's not good defensively at 3B. You mention 1B - any infielder can play 1B and we have a gold glover who DHs most days. His role would be that of strict pinch hitter and we already have a better LH pinch hitter in Shuck on the roster. Since Saladino came up, Gillaspie has been MIA. I'm not thrilled about the move simply because I like Connor, but it is the right move. Gordon can't hit at all but he is an asset to have on the bench defensively. And Boni has been terrible, but he at least can run a bit, something every bench needs.

Bummed for Connor. He was a pretty decent ball player for us the past two years. But the Sox need D at 3B, and that he cannot provide. He just didn't make sense on this roster any longer.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:59 PM) If the Sox don't win this game is on Hahn for being a pitcher short. Teal implied I hope.

White Sox call up Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) It will be Bonifacio, I really believe. I feel like Boni serves more of a purpose. If Saladino is the 3B, connor would be relagated to ph duties only. Not sure that's worth a roster spot, but is have a hard time dfa Connor too.

White Sox call up Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) Argument against: Neither are great hitters, Beckham is a better runner and vastly better defensively. Shuck and Bonifacio provide lefty hitting off the bench. Conor just doesn't make sense unless he's starting. I am sure they are trying to trade Connor as we speak rather than just designating him, but I can't imagine anyone is beating down the door.

JB Shuck
I like him - easy guy to root for. I met him at a restaurant in Minneapolis a couple months back and he was a super nice guy too. Was probably surprised to be recognized.

7/18 vs KC Royals
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) I'm just saying man, he has a tendency to give up these early f***ing runs. Look at what happened Sunday. He just need to pitch better and he has proven he can in the past. 4 hits to start the game is pretty bad. You can't even defend that. But you jumped ship after 2. It is pathetic.

7/18 vs KC Royals
IvE wondered this for awhile...anyone know who the younger guy who is always in warm ups in the dugout is? He'll be out playing catch with the guys before games and looks like he could be a player himself...would guess he definitely played pro ball, but can't be older than 30 I wouldn't think. Most definitely not with the training staff.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 12:35 PM) Snaps together a great season? Like last year? He put up 5.3 fWAR last season and is on pace for a 4+ win season this year. Quintana is a 26 year old LH stud that is on a team friendly deal for the next 5 seasons. It's absurd to me that other MLB teams wouldn't know and understand how good he is. He will not be traded unless it's for an absolute haul. He may be unknown to the general baseball fan base but he certainly is not unknown to the front offices. Q would bring back an absolute haul if the White Sox decided to trade him. And if they don't get those sort of offers in return, Q will be going nowhere.

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 10:20 AM) He already used his option for this year as he was on the 40 man roster before this game. Correct.

Crazy Trade Deadline Predictions
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:54 PM) Chris Sale to the Cubs for Schwarber, Javier Baez, CJ Edwards, Corey Black, and Gleyber Torres. Cubs would still be loaded and have arguably the best pitcher in the game locked up. Would the Cubs be giving up enough? You have a 26 year old that is arguably the best pitcher in baseball and happens to be locked up long-term at great value, how would you ever get his true value? Sox would get a potential all-star catcher, 2 guys rotation ready, a 2B/SS/CF with very good power, and a very good SS prospect for the future. I got through this whole post and became sick to my stomach at the thought of trading Sale. I feel like Quintana wouldn't get the right return since he's not a big name per se, and Shark being a rental wouldn't return a lot. I would be so mad if that trade happened, it wouldn't even be funny. There is 0% that is enough.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Just to note again, Catcher is actually the position where the Sox have their 2nd highest fWAR. Tyler Flowers has more fWAR than any of our position player regulars other than Abreu. Maybe you think someone will improve next year at one of those positions, fine, but I certainly wouldn't say "we must find a catcher" or "finding a new catcher is more important than 3b, SS, OF, or 2b". I am aware. I think that has more to do with everyone else playing well under their career norms that Tyler Flowers and Geo Soto being good at baseball. Either would be a fine back-up. Problem is, there are very few good catchers in baseball right now, but I'd certainly like one of the top 10 catching prospects in the game and give him a chance next year than rely on either one of those two for more than back-up duty in 2016. Unlike you, I think we're fine in the OF for now, and we have several internal options at 2B and SS. 3B and C would be my priorities, and SS next.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) No he couldn't. Well if he can't fill at least one of 3B or C (plus some additional prospects), he simply won't be traded.

7/17 vs KC Royals Doubleheader
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) Only game going on now I think and yet it took so long and the y blew the call unless they think Avi got tagged on the arm before the tag on the waist, but other wise it's SOS ( same old Sox). 2 lead off walks 2 outs on the bases. Tough to tell if he got him on the arm or not there. But it needs to be a judgement call. My judgement would be that he didn't get the arm..but since there was no "definitive evidence" that he didn't get the arm...well, they stick with the call on the field. Yes, it needs work.

Crazy Trade Deadline Predictions
I think the Sox will stand pat for the most part if they continue to play good baseball. If they fall below 6 games under .500 at any point, I am sure Shark will be dealt. I could also see a bullpen arm or two moved since we do have a surplus there. Probably Putnam would be the first to go. However, if the Sox get hot and get back to .500, I'd almost be surprised if they don't try to find a bat or two or help the offense.

Yasiel Puig
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Puig in RF = the White Sox have a much better chance at competing in 2016. Garcia in RF = not sure why you'd think the White Sox can be competitive with him out there. You can give Avi more time in RF, fine, but build a roster with the expectation that you're not going to be that much better than this year. If the White Sox want to compete in 2016 and have Avi in RF, they need to be much stronger everywhere else on the diamond, and that's a lot of talent they don't have. Obviously Puig would be a net + in RF over Avi right now. But you don't trade your 2nd best trading chip, and a guy who is locked up long-term well below market value for him. By the way, you still think Melky is a 1 WAR player moving forward?

Yasiel Puig
The Sox wouldn't do Q for Puig straight up. If the Sox trade Q, it will be to get an above average ML ready 3B or C, + some other high upside prospects. The Sox definitely would not just throw Avi in the deal in addition. Let's fix the holes we have, not fix something that isn't broken (I am not an Avi hater, and want to give him at least another 1.5 seasons - the dude is young).

Samardzija Trade Packages
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) They need to move Samardzija now. The market is ripe. Plenty of fish in the sea this offseason to replace him. The Sox are at least going to see how this next week goes. Hold your horses, bud.

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) Doesn't DRob have 3 years left on his deal after this year and $30+ million owed to him? I just don't see a team taking on his full contract unless they're REALLY desperate for relievers. That is what top tier relievers get paid. Sox weren't even the highest bidder this offseason, and let's not pretend like he has fallen off a cliff.

Frankie Montas to join Sox for Double Header Friday
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) No one will take on Robertson's contract unless the Sox pick up most up the money. That's not worth it. The Sox should keep him for now. Doubt that is true.
