QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 02:34 PM) Trade for young players? Develop young players. Like Avi, before jettisoning him for that "proven veteran" Bruce is a good hitter, but a)will it continue and b)his D is average. Better than Avi, but average. The Sox farm system hasn't been overly productive, but it's been a lot more productive than Kenny Williams' trades for those "proven veterans". Avi has proven a pretty useless major league piece at this point. He is weak hitting, atrocious fielding corner outfielder who doesnt walk and strikes out a bunch. He has been below replacement level for his career thus far. I would rather have the "proven veteran" with the 100 pt higher ISO manning a position that requires you to be a power hitter.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) He has a 10% walk rate every year and a higher ISO than anybody currently playing on the Sox. I think most lineups would be happy to add him, especially ours. That said, I don't see him as a great fit. He might not be a great fit, but I'm having a hard time identifying where we are expecting to find power moving forward. Prior to last years disasterous season due to rushing back from a knee injury, Bruce's lowest HR total of his career was 21. Im not even sure 3/4's of this starting lineup can peak at a number like that. The Sox have the pitching to win now, they desparately need offense and improved defense. Where is that coming from?
-
I know a lot of people are a hard pass on Bruce, but this might be a good time to strike on him. His stock seems to be down and the Reds are not interested in paying any of his remaining salary. When I look at him versus our current RF situation, Bruce has a better ISO, BB%, better wOBA, and much better defensive defensive metrics than Avi. I realize he is a strikeout machine, but this team is in desparate need of power/offense and improving their holes on defense. If a package might be able to be centered around Avi and a prospect, I think this is something that the Sox should look at.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) FutureSox.com @FutureSox 22m22 minutes ago RHP Carson Fulmer, #WhiteSox 1st round pick, officially assigned to AZL White Sox per @MiLB transactions page. Pro debut should be soon. My condolences to those poor kids

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Aren't the comp picks now immediately after the 1st round? Should be more like a #30-40 ranked player then. To reiterate what soxfan2014 said, with teams losing their first round picks due to signing players who received qualifying offers, the comp round is dipping into the late first round now. Furthermore, with the amount of free agents this summer that should be receiving QO's, the Samardzija pick could come in anywhere between the late 20's, early 30's. There is a lot of talent to be had there and the Sox really shouldn't settle for anything less than they could get at that slot.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 13, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) I totally agree. I think many overestimate the return Shark would bring based on what the Cubs got under vastly different circumstances. The return for Shark needs to be better than the compensation pick they will get for him if they offer him a QO. Plain and simple. Being that those type of picks are fringy top 100 players (especially in a draft that is said to be deep with talent), you are looking for a top 100 prospect coming back for Samardzija. People thinking that the Sox will sell Samardzija for next to nothing because he is a 2 month rental are kidding themselves. There is a ton of value in that comp pick.
-
They should definitely sell, but this streak is gonna give them confidence going forward and ultimately, they will bungle this up somehow.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 01:51 AM) So the plan is for him to go back down after the double header on friday? That would be a shame Where are you seeing this?

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jul 12, 2015 -> 12:03 AM) IF Saladino is here to stay, the only player to get rid of would be Conor. Beckham's glove is too valuable and Bonifacio can play anywhere & is the 2nd OF. I'm not sure what to make of Tyler so far but he seems to have a better glove than Conor, slightly below avg speed and little to no power. With Beckham forgetting how to hit again, he may provide a better bat but all together, they can't afford another sub .200 bat. He actually has pretty solid wheels. His defense is already better than Conor's, he has a better arm, and the hits will come. Getting slotted in the 2 hole against 2 good pitchers in your first 2 games is no small task. He hasn't really looked overmatched IMO. He put a beautiful swing on his triple.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 11:58 PM) Agreed. He didn't hit the ball hard today. Nothing in his background suggests he'll be much of anything in the bigs. I guess the only thing in his favor is he was a 7th round draft pick second itme around in the draft. But he's done very little in the minors to suggest he'll be anything but utility type player at best. 3 seasons of an .800 OPS or above seems pretty legit to me. He deserves a chance.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 10, 2015 -> 10:19 PM) It's upsetting to me that instead of being happy and excited that the Sox won, I am more relieved that I don't have to hear the Cubs fans. Maybe I am weak and should know better but I am not the s*** talking type and the Cubs fans I deal with tend to be. I am going to the game Sunday as well so I wanted to be in good shape going in just so I don't have to deal with meatheads. Obviously I am biased, but does anyone else feel like your regular Cubs fan is an especially uneducated fan? I am sure it has a lot to do with them losing 90+ games three out of the last four years and not winning a playoff game since Bush's first term but I find myself just nodding at their weak attempts to make banter. Yes, the Cubs have more fans at their Cubs and yes, if the season ended today the Cubs would be in the playoffs. I am just not phased. They just seem out of the loop. Some guy was giving me s*** at the golf course and I tried to change the subject and said, "Is Rondon not the Cubs closer anymore?" and he said "Rondon is on the Sox." So I am not like, "No, not Rodon, Hector RONDON, the Cubs closer," and he says, "No it's Motte, the Cardinals guy, we don't have a Rodon." It's one guy, but still. So bad. Please Chris Sale, be the best Chris Sale you can be so I can relax when we lose 2-1 or 1-0 on Sunday for Quintana vs. Arrieta. I heard a lot of really dumb Cubs fans today. A lot showed up late and left early in our section too.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 12:06 AM) What was it like to be there? Standing room only would be a good test of the park amenities. Does it take forever to get to a bathroom stall? Are the bathrooms gross? Are the seats all cramped together compared to the Cell? Is the food any good? Long lines for food, too? Does the park seem like a sewer or not? I remember Ozzeroo used to say it was a dump. What is it like to go to a game at Wrigley now vs. the Cell? Bathroom I was in look upgraded, but the beer and food have remained s***. I tried to buy a bottle of water for my wife, they said they didn't have bottled water, but had $4.50 cups of water....I laughed in their faces. I thought the scoreboards would be nicer honestly, i did like that they said the type and speed of every pitch on the LF board though, that was a cool touch. I still greatly prefer the Cell, Wrigley just isn't a good park.

Getting Jones back by August for the 8th inning would be huge for that pen

I thought Saladino looked at home defensively at 3rd today, I would much rather give him a serious chance at third for the next month or two.

What an absolute pleasure it was to watch today's game. Great defense, great pitching, solid fundamentals in the small ball game. Thoroughly enjoyed taking that in in person. Let's take 2 more this weekend.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) Carroll has been great as a long man. Better to be lucky etc etc but I'll take his performance. Maybe they are bringing Erik Johnson up and moving Danks to long relief

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) Nice little shot at the offense from Shark there in that postgame interview. He's right, though...we need to do something to help the offense. Lose 2 or 3 of Beckham, Flowers, and Sanchez and replace them with even average bats and we'll win at a much better clip. Easier said than done but an effort needs to be made. What did he say?
-
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) Winning the series vs Toronto plus Shark's great game, certainly increases the interest in this three game series. No DH, so I wonder what the Cubs' plan for Schwarber is? Can't wait. Schwarber is in the minors, so I imagine he will stay there. Soto should start friday and sunday.

I am really happy Melky is starting to come around, if only LaRoche could do anything useful -

I've never seen someone get as many chances as Gordon. Just cut him already.
