Should the Sox make an example out of someone?
Dunt replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) Who are you guys planning to sit in the OF? Cabrera? Eaton? Trade LaRoche and move Avi to DH/1B? Ultimately, I think a lot of teams could use LaRoche as they push for the playoffs and let's be serious, Avi has no business in the outfield. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 11:12 PM) I've never been the "fire the manager" guy and I don't think terrible players playing terribly and better players having bad years is a manager's fault. I think the writing is on the wall here though. The problem is it shouldn't be just Robin. There's not really anyone on his staff that I would want to take over for the rest of the season. I like Rick Hahn as the architect of this team moving forward and I'm pretty sure Kenny isn't going anywhere. If they switch managers, they need a complete overhaul of the coaching staff. I know it's fresh and at the top of mind but I'd love Bud Black as the White Sox manager. I think this would mean that Cooper goes but I'd be fine with that. They haven't made the playoffs since 2008. I held out hope that they'd get back into this thing but it's past 60 games and June 15th which are my assessment points. At this point, if you could guarantee me a top 5 pick I'd take it. This team really doesn't have much to sell. I think if you get a deal better than a (very valuable) 2016 1st rounder, you consider making it for Shark. That 1st rounder is enticing though. You probably can't get much for Ramirez but I'd probably sell low to clear the $$. I'm obviously not a GM but once they start making moves towards next year there a few guys I'd like to see. Gillaspie, Flowers, and Noesi would not be on my baseball team. Danks would be in the bullpen until Shark moves. I'd go with Rodon, Sale, Q, and Erik Johnson in the rotation. I'd play Matt Davidson at 3B, Micah Johnson at 2B, and Kevan Smith at C. They may all be terrible, but it can't be much worse and I need to see what they have. Most of this is a pipe dream and it won't happen but at least there'd be interest. Agreed with all this, I would add Trayce as well though. If this draft is as good as the experts are saying it is, a top 5 pick will be incredibly valuable. If they stink, they stink. If someone shows they can play, you have some options for the offseason then. If the Sox don't get a 3B, C, SS, or OF for Samardzija that can start next season, then just take the comp pick and have the extra pool money to work with. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:19 PM) How many innings is that without scoring? 20

Alexei can barely get the ball on a fly to first anymore

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) How is Sanchez still in the majors. He's a worse hitter than Leury "Elite defense"

Remember when Alexei use to have defensive range?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) My Sox spidey-sense has me thinking that (if that happened) in all likelihood, this team would probably string together 2-3 weeks of somewhat coherent baseball, purely to spite everyone (including the decision makers). That would be incredibly White Sox of them

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) The Sox got played hard by Oakland for Shark, that much is obvious in retrospect. Chicago made the deal because they thought they were close to contending and thus overpaid slightly to get him. Well, not only did they not get good value, they didn't get a playoff push either. Phegley will never be anything more than backup (at best) but Semien and Bassit have chances to be solid regulars. In Semian's case he would the 2nd highest WAR on the team right now for position players. FML. Honestly, that trade didnt really shake out for either team, so I wouldnt be all that upset with the result. Atleast the Sox will: A.) Resign Samardzija B.) Get a comp pick C.) Trade for a usable asset for the future

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) He get hurt So they can stop pretending they have a playoff chance as soon as he goes down? Seems like Abreu should play third
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Where do you expect him to play? Or do you really want to pull Abreu out of the lineup? Werent they talking about putting Abreu at 3rd for interleague play? Or was that them just trying to be cute? What is the worst that could happen? Our defense stay awful?

"It's not my place to tell what he's doing or how well he's doing or what position he's in," Eaton said. "That is nothing pertained to me. I go out and do my job, it doesn't matter who's managing it."

Little snippet from Kiley McDaniel chat: Comment From Nick You’ve been clear that Carson Fulmer is your favorite pitcher from this draft. How would he compare to the pitchers of the 2014 draft? A tier below Rodon but above Nola? 11:49 Kiley McDaniel: I think he’s very similar to Nola in value, they’ll be near each other on the big list if Nola is still eligible

This is a federal crime if proven true, this has incredibly serious implications for those involved.

QUOTE (DashFan @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 09:53 AM) A lot was made this offseason about acquiring not only talented baseball players, but also veteran leadership. Despite this, Eaton seems to have emerged as sort of the defacto spokesman for the players. I expected more from the likes of LaRoche and Cabrera. Unfortunately the only comment I saw from either regarding the slow start was LaRoche basically rehashing the company line of "it's still early." I also remember him saying something regarding the postseason to the effect of "if the team is good enough at the end of the season, we'll be there." Which seems fine for a statistician to say, but I was extremely disappointed to hear that kind of disconnected approach from a player. These guys are supposed to provide the TWTW, not sit back and see what happens. Something stinks with this team, and it's not it's the stat lines, it's the attitude of the whole org and I don't see anyone in it, including the vets we brought in, interested in changing it. LaRoche has supposedly been pretty good in the clubhouse so far. This is Chris Sale's team though, he is the leader and a good one at that IMO. This team is just in a miserable funk and this organization as a whole just sucks. It really gets hammered home when you see how an organization like the Blackhawks is run. They seem fine with trotting out a mediocre product year after year because they are smart enough business people to always make a profit. The White Sox are comfortable because they are safe.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) I believe they blew past their spending 2 years ago and couldn't spend last season/current period. You are correct, the penalty changed to 2 years in 2014. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-08...jefferson-mejia

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) It’s unclear as yet whether Martinez will sign in this period or the new one beginning July 2, but he’ll have to put pen to paper in short order if he’s to head to the Yankees or Angels. Those two clubs will be unable to spend more than $300K after this July 2 class closes, and they are among the teams who Sanchez lists with interest. The Cubs, Blue Jays, Nationals, Rockies, Tigers, Dodgers, and Giants have also reached out to Martinez’s camp, per the report. “I’m working hard to get to my goal to play in the Major Leagues, ” says the 20-year-old. “That’s what I have always wanted to do.” baseballamerica.com How is it that the Cubs are able to spend wildly again this period, didnt they blow past their limit last year?
-
So I believe someone said today is the last day for some teams to get EJM inked to a deal before the July 2nd deadline. Who is no longer able to sign him after today?
