Anyone thinking the Sox best plan of action this week could be to buy AND sell? Samardzija has pitched really well over his last 8 to 9 starts, but his K/9 is currently sitting 6.93 (by far the worst of his career). While trading Samardzija now and replacing him with EJ might hurt the team in the immediate future, maybe the Sox could take a seriously look at adding value elsewhere to offset the lose and build more for the "3 year window". I know everyone is hesitant to add NL players, but I would absolutely love to see the Sox add Carlos Gomez. Add his bat along with his defense to this team and all of the sudden, this team looks a lot more dangerous. This isn't a move I expect this front office to explore, but it's one I would seriously consider. If you could put together a package that didnt include Anderson, I say you do it.

Going to keep beating this drum. If the Sox think they are going to get back in it this week, Soto should be getting playing time at C and DH. No way around it. LaRoche and Flowers are currently two weakest links on the team.

If the Sox suddenly felt like going for the rest of the season, I wouldn't mind seeing them make a play for Upton

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 26, 2015 -> 06:30 PM) That's what I've been saying since it was clear the team with Sanchez was playing much better defensively and even more so now with Saladino. Extra bonus points for both hitting well too . Would be even better if Avi never saw an inning in RF again

Anyone thinking that Larry King tweet has nothing to do with Samardzija?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) Now this sounds like the closest thing to my view of reality that I have heard. I would imagine what it boiled down to was that the Sox wanted way more than Houston was willing to give up, which was spun into they dont' want to sell. That's kinda my impression as well. I think the Astros came to the Sox with a low ball offer, the Sox countered, and the Astros didn't like the asking price. People that think the A's haul is week for Kazmir need to look at his home/road splits.

Any word on why Trey got pulled last night?

So are we thinking there's any chance he gets traded before his start tonight?

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 23, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) It's not often you can be that close to downtown yet have zero convenient public transportation options to access your stadium. The el is right there

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 02:02 PM) I am not a fan of signing Samardzija long term either but if the Sox want to sign him long term, they should still trade him...now. Agreed, I hope something is done before his start tomorrow, but I doubt that's going to happen. -
Puig for Price straight up? No, that won't happen
-
If Shark could land the Sox either of Barnes or AJ Reed, I would be incredibly happy

Dave Cameron of Fangraphs said today that if Sale was put on the block, Puig would definitely be a piece coming back.

In roughly 200 less AB, Soto has been worth 0.2 less WAR than Salvador Perez, a catcher that many around the league consider one of the best. Just doesnt make sense to me.
-
Is there a legitimate reason that Flowers deserves more playing time than him at this point? Soto has a better AVG, OBP, SLG%, BB%, wRC+, and his defensive metrics have been better all season. What has Flowers done to deserve the nod over Soto? If Sale likes throwing to him so much, then fine, keep him around in some David Ross capacity. For a team so offensively starved though, it would seem to make a lot of sense having him in the lineup regularly between catcher and DH.

I think a lot of it depends on the projections for Anderson and if the Sox can trade for a 3B or SS. Personally, I've really enjoyed watching Saladino so far at third. His swing doesn't seem to have any glaring holes that i've noticed so far and his defense definitely plays. The fact that he has amassed a 0.4 WAR in 33 plate appearances tells me he might cement himself as the third basemen going forward. So in that case, the big question is if Anderson's defense is going to be good enough to play at SS. If it is, he will be the the SS for the next 5-10 years. If not, I imagine he will get slotted at 2B and the Sox will look for an outside solution at SS. I dont know that Micah or Sanchez will be complete enough players to be the future at second.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) He'll get a QO though. They can't give up any more draft picks. So keep Shark and extend him a QO. The Sox will be picking in the top 10 this year, little doubt about that at this point. With the comp pick for Shark and their first and second pick both being high, they can afford to lose one of those picks to sign an elite player. Your OF defense gets a major boost with Heyward out there and I think that takes a lot of pressure off Eaton as well.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) I'd say he isn't with all of the holes on this team. That kind of money needs big production, which he hasn't brought in a while. Too much hero worship in this organization. They needs solid baseball players at multiple positions. Agree to disagree, he is the exact type of player this organization needs and he's available this offseason. No one you're thinking of is.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) Good gracious, Kenny Hahn wanted to rent him too? Madness! Heyward doesn't hit near well enough for the money he will command. .285/.341/.435 seems like a good pair for elite defense. I'd say he's worth the money.

Has Cooper worked with Rodon at all replicating his release point? Because he hasnt seemed to make any progress since he was called up
