  1. Neither of these things are actually clear though. We don't actually know that Getz is tearing it down to the studs, and we likely won't until the trade deadline. As for Grifol, I still think that is entirely out of his hands at this point. Getz put out a roster in 2024 that he thought would be solid, with real defensive improvements as well as a better clubhouse culture. Yet here we are on June 19th, and they finally crossed 20 wins last night. He assembled one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball history thinking it could be competitive in the division. He did not lock himself into bad longterm money, I'll give him that, but there has been no emphasis on development for the future. This entire year has been a waste and does nothing to help the longterm health of the roster. He sounds more clueless than anything on how to actually fix the mess he helped orchestrate.
  2. But then we wouldn't have been treated to this magical and historic season!
  3. I remember rumors of Wintrust having the better offer, but I don't have any sourcing to corroborate. The worst part is that no one really knew who or what Guaranteed Rate was, yet Jerry signed off on this no name company getting naming rights, whose logo just happened to be a GIGANTIC red arrow pointing down. It might as well been flashing neon. Optics be damned, Jerry is gonna take the money.
  4. How long was it still named US Cellular after the company abandoned the Chicago market?
  5. You think Jerry cares about those optics? He seemed pretty unbothered by gigantic red downward arrows being plastered all over the ballpark as long as the checks cleared. He's no stranger to toxic organizations himself.
  6. Good control and change of speed make lower velocity more viable. I worry more about how teams adjust to his change up with more tape to scout, because his FB isn't going to cut it w/o quality off speed offerings.
  7. Who fucking cares? They have been outscored by 155 runs.
  8. World Series bound in 2927, book it…
  9. Google has his net worth at $18M. He can thank the Marlins for $10M of that for mostly not working.
  10. Does no one remember the Robin Ventura experience? Why would Frank Thomas put his ass on the line for this collection of garbage? Ozzie is desperate to be relevant, even he seems to have just enough self awareness to not sign onto this sinking ship. Who the hell would pay to watch either of those Sox 'heroes' have zero effect on the worst team in history for that matter?
  11. Short of sending the team out to the diamond wearing full clown ensemble, I fail to see how Ozzie has a such an effect.
  12. He said better things were ahead. He didn't say it was with the Sox.
  13. "Lighting a fire" does nothing to make up for a lack of talent, nor restore the past talent of the aged and washed up. The notion that Ozzie even could "light a fire under some of these guys" is pretty laughable considering that he has not managed in nearly 15 years, and was a dumpster fire in his last gig. If this roster has tuned out Pedro, they sure aren't going to listen to another joke of a manager brought in mid-season, coming from a tv studio of all places.
  14. Woo not starting for the M's tonight after all.
  15. Pedro is definitely that stupid, but I could see Getz mandating something that stupid as well.
  16. You sir, are doing the lord's work.
  17. Robert had a nice audition in front of the Mariners last night. Still holding out hope he leaves them starry-eyed enough after this series to pony up.
  18. Tuesday it would seem.
  19. Not a max-effort flame thrower and doesn't seem to rely heavily on a slider.
  20. They have to drastically alter how they operate for a top system to matter. If there’s nothing behind the wave of top talent, and they don’t augment the major league roster with quality signings, we are in for a repeat of the last failed rebuild.
  21. M's have plenty of LH power that can actually play RF. Sheets requires a 40 man spot, and might start one game a week at 1B or DH. He offers no value to the Mariners roster that couldn't fill internally. If Dipoto needed an extra piece to offset Robert's injury risk, neither Sheets or Vaughn do that.
  22. Vaughn and Sheets have absolutely zero value and do nothing to offset Robert's injury risk. They are both instant DFA's for a competing club. It would take more than Robert to pry Colt Emerson from Seattle IMO, but Sheets and Vaughn actually hurt the incoming value for the Mariners.
