Reinsdorf releases statement to say he'll speak more later
Lip Man 1 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Which staff? The current ones or the ones who got fired? And the part about continuing to work is a joke. Did he watch the baseball stupidity and ineptness this afternoon for example? Guys looking like the last thing they wanted to do was be out there on the field? Please... -
Baggy pants buffoons. from DVS post game story: "Lane Thomas beat out a slow roller to third baseman Miguel Vargas with two outs in the first inning, allowing Steven Kwan to score easily and Jose Ramirez to race all the way from second with run number two. When Thomas beat second baseman Lenyn Sosa’s throw to first for an infield single in the third after Sosa’s diving stop in the third with two outs, Kwan and a hustling Andres Gimenez scored. Adding to the “what’s next?” element of the afternoon — and season — Gimenez was on base because first baseman Andrew Vaughn was late getting to the bag after picking up Gimenez’ tapper in the infield grass. If “lollygagging” comes to mind, you’re not far off. It’s not something that has come to mind at all in the case of Vaughn. Perhaps he just miscalculated Gimenez’ speed. Fans in the small afternoon crowd let Vaughn hear it, piling on when Vaughn successfully fielded the exact same play when Ramirez grounded to first right after Gimenez’ at-bat." All you can do is laugh at the baseball-stupidity. 😆

Great column, includes Getz quotes from spring training and compares them to a few days ago: https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/09/10/chicago-white-sox-its-121-or-bust/

This comment from a friend and a long time Sox fan summed things up pretty well: "It’s sickening. And it’s also a lie, because while a GM has to walk a line (sell tickets!) Getz absolutely did not feel anything near this way in spring. He 100% thought he’d improved the team, even if by a game and I’m guessing he thought sheer luck would cap him at 90 losses. So beyond the absolute offense we take at his casual words now, he’s also lying. This isn’t about 2000 or 2010, where memories fade, this is six friggin months ago. I am not so much of a diehard that they still can’t kill my fandom. I’ll always carry it with me but it is a flickering ember at this point. And seemingly we are not yet at bottom."

The stiff also over ran a pop up today.

From Scott Merkin , Getz met the media today before the game apparently: "If you would have told me we were going to end up flirting with the record, I would have been a little surprised. Now if you would have told me prior to the year that we would have ended up with over 100 losses, 105, 110, I wouldn't have been as surprised." ---Chris Getz

Could we Match (or beat) Phillies from 1938 - 1942?

it's possible assuming he still is in control of the franchise. -
Third baseman Bryan Ramos was called up Thursday from Triple-A Charlotte but hadn’t seen action until he pinch-ran for Andrew Vaughn and scored in the ninth. ‘‘It’s tough,’’ Sizemore said. ‘‘Try to maybe work him and [Miguel Vargas] together at third and maybe get some DH days for him, as well. These last 20 games or so, try to get some of the younger guys as many looks as I can and get some of the veteran guys days off. But it’s going to be tough trying to find spots for everybody.’’ 🤡

‘‘Every day, it’s something new,’’ a former baseball executive told the Sun-Times over the weekend. ‘‘They’re inventing ways to lose games. You could not have scripted something this bad in the history of baseball.’’ https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/09/08/as-white-sox-historically-bad-season-nears-end-you-have-to-see-big-picture-assistant-gm-says

From Sox Machine: *Gonzalez both chased out of the zone and swung-and-missed inside the zone too much to be the X-factor the White Sox relentlessly sold him to be. But his 3-for-4 night with two runs scored reminds he’s substantially improved both in Boston to become a 109 wRC+ hitter while manning six different positions for the Red Sox, after being designated for assignment in January to clear 40-man roster room for John Brebbia. He also stole three bases. Who knew?!

As long as the political climate remains the same and in the Sox case unless JR is willing to put up significant money neither team is getting squat and they can partner with everyone and it won't change a thing. Politicians in Springfield aren't going to risk their careers supporting this with the blowback from citizens and citizen groups.

Will the Sox prioritize Moncada over youngsters?
Lip Man 1 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
if they were to add another round of playoffs and more teams a la the NBA and NHL, I'm guessing at some point fairly soon, you'd get a team actually qualifying with a .500 record or a losing one. That almost happen in 1994. At the time of the labor standoff the Rangers were in first place in their division with a record 10 games under .500. They would have played the Sox in the first round. -
It doesn't matter who they put out there usually the opponent scores to break the game open or if it's late in the game, win it.

More info from a source who commented on the four scouts fired (which I posted in their thread): "I was a little worried Marco would be let go. A scout from another team thinks he’ll get a job quickly. Latin American talent is volatile. Marco connected on a few but had some big swings and misses lately, which hurt him. I know Doug Laumann liked working for him."

More info on this situation from a source who knows the scouting/ development baseball world very, very well: "All pro scouts. Scherrer definitely didn’t travel. He was their top pro scout. Siers based in Florida, responsible for Jose Quintana. Also didn’t travel. Benedict was a pro scout. Not sure if his travel was curbed. Daracka had severed ties earlier this summer. Was a KW guy. Heard some bitching about his work ethic." Also had comments about the job being done by Gene Watson. Another team's scout had this to say about him: "Never watches game. Should be director of entertainment. Don’t know when Getz will stop going along with him.”
