Nishida is such an unorthodox player, I am not sure anyone knows what to make of him. It’s little to no power. He is passive at the plate and not a great defender. But he takes amazing at bats, forces pitchers to work more than anyone else in A ball, and is an excellent base runner. I mean, a poor man’s Steven Kwan? Not really because the power is at least a grade lower. He’s an interesting guy, but he’s gonna have to prove it at higher levels before he gets a lot of attention.

Why would anyone trade for him? He has a $25 million contract for 2025 with a $5 million buy out. You acquire him, you're on the hook for $5 mil. That's a lot for a rental who hasn't played all year. Hey, if they can get a box of donuts for him, I'd take it. I'm just saying that teams who do like him will wait for when he's a FA.

I agree. It does not help that they identify Baldwin a "righthanded hitter." They really do not seem to know what they're talking about. Putting Wolkow at 18 is not gonna age well. I was a big booster of Nastrini, but he has had a really rough season in ways that really cast doubt on his ability to start, so 8 seems comically rich for me. But everyone is entitled to an opinion.

7/8 Sox vs Twins, time for Flexual Healing
Timmy U replied to Heads22's topic in 2024 Season in Review
What is the record for losing games that you led in by at least 3 runs? I feel the Sox are probably on tr ack to break it. -
I am yes on Emerson, Celestestin and Farmelo depending on health. I am leery of Ford, but he has been hot for a while now. Monte’s might be the second coming of Eloy. Makes it to the majors as a 22 year-old DH.

Elias didn't shutdown trade of Holliday
Timmy U replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
I imagine they could/would trade Holliday in the right deal, but it’s not gonna be for a year and a half of Tucker. First of all, the Astros are surging. Why would they trade one of their two best players to a league rival? Second, right field is not exactly a problem in Baltimore. Santander hasn’t hit that great for average, but there’s been huge impact. Kjerstad is off to a nice start since his return and Cowser is really more of a corner guy than a centerfielder. A stud pitcher, a true centerfielder, plus some upside arms, maybe you’re talking. But this article is a pipe dream. -
After a bad outing from Povich (similar to both Thorpe and Cannon, young guys gonna have these), some guy at Fan Sided was ignorant of the second year on Fedde’s deal and suggested Fedde for Arias, a guy who is struggling with both the bat and the glove in A ball. I don’t even like contemplating fake deals with the Orioles. The whole ecosystem is ill-informed and unreasonable.

They played Monday, so… this is the travel day?

Schultz is getting hit hard. Hope he’s healthy.
-
Man, Wolkow impacts the baseball. I doubt any team would ever trade us someone with his upside. Screw it, let’s keep Crichet and Robert and build a monster.
-
Can he play right?
-
I think a better question for the Orioles is “What would it take to get Fedde?” More in their price range. Or, if I am being snarky, “What would it take to get Pam and Flexen?”
-
That’s not the sort of package Getz is looking for. They are looking for big impact, super young players to fit a much later timeline. Basallo fits that, but Bradfield lacks impact, McDermott wouldn’t be front of the line for Sox pitchers, and Stowers is 26, has to be on the 40 and has already burned a bunch of options. I’m sure the Dodgers rejected offer for Crochet had similar volume over talent profiles. Plus, they aren’t packaging these guys. The PR hit for trading either of them for anything less than a haul is gonna be huge. But I can see how the O’s might consider this a relatively fair offer.

Who will be traded by the deadline?
Timmy U replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Trade Winds 2024
Makes sense. I hope you’re right. It would be nice to get something useful for him. -

I didn’t pick Flexen because what winning team would give you anything for him? I also didn’t pick Soroka because he’s owed a fair amount of money for a middle reliever. I think the Sox are committed to moving Robert and Crochet though. -
Isn’t the best thing for his health to keep him on a starter’s routine but limit the innings? Like a two to three inning opener?
-
Christian Mena made his mlb debut tonight vs. the Dodgers. He gave up 4 in the first, including 2 HR.
-
James Fox speculates that they would build a package around Connor Norby. Meh. He’s R/R, is not really a 2b and his strikeouts scare me. He has no chance of breaking into their lineup. Maybe as the weak side of a corner outfield platoon with either Cowser or Kjerstad? If that is the return, I would hold onto Garrett at least until the offseason.

BA with a new top 100. Schultz 8, Montgomery 30, Thorpe 45, Quero 81. https://www.baseballamerica.com/rankings/2024-top-100-prospects/

He also tore a bicep.

I wonder who goes to the Barons? Bowen? Varela? Palette is going backwards and McDougal is not ready.

Protecting that trade value.

Some pretty severe batted ball luck for the Rox in this game. Crochet dominant again.
-
Re: my earlier point, 8 runs in this game, all via the long ball. Gotta develop power to compete.
-
Today’s game points to Manfred’s trouble moving away from power to stolen bases. Rox have 2 hits, both HR. If those balls were hard singles, it is a 0-0 game. Ball go far, team go far. As pitch shapes get nastier and nastier, there will be a premium on maximizing what you do to mistakes. It is the best argument for why the Sox should grab Cags, if they get the shot, despite the 1b profile.
